The restoration of a traditional shepherd's bergerie has created a charming village house, retaining original features such as stone walls and vaulted ceilings. A swimming pool nestles amongst granite boulders and trees and takes advantage of wonderful sea views, whilst the other side the house enjoys mountain views across the Balagne. The village of Santa Reparata has two small restaurants as well as a hotel restaurant during the summer months, a bakery, a grocer's and a butcher's shop and U Piazzale is just five kilometres from the town centre and sandy beaches of Ile Rousse, and three kilometres from Monticello, with its well-known gastronomic restaurant. Follow your curiosity and take a stroll up into the more remote corners where time has eroded some of the ancient buildings and swifts swoop and chatter overhead. You can pick up the walking trails to Pigna from here or wend your way upwards to hilltop Sant’Antonino, which dates back to the 9th century. Both sit on the Route des Artisans with its arts and crafts workshops and array of local produce for tasting and taking home. For wine buffs, there are also two vineyards within eight miles of the villa, plus the popular Route des Vins, which passes through fashionable Lumio, a picturesque village with sandy beaches nearby and impressive views across the Golfe de Calvi. The nearest Michelin-star restaurant is in Salti in Regino, about a 20-minute drive away and next to a nine-hole golf course.
Stay in July and you’ll also have the pleasure of the annual Festivoce, Pigna’s international music festival, which offers a full programme of events, including concerts and performances in the streets, baroque churches, chapels and squares, all just a 15-minute drive away.

The island is extremely beautiful but then again so is the villa. The holiday was fantastic as we could do whatever we liked and mostly we liked doing nothing but lazy days and occasional visits to the coast or fabulous mountain restaurants. The Simpson rep, Debbie, was there when we needed anything and recommended some nice things to do. But, the main purpose of any holiday we take is really to sit back and recharge the batteries, so if that's your thing I cannot recommend this villa highly enough. May do two weeks next year!
Mr James Rees – May 2019
This holiday has been full of surprises. Our first visit to Corsica has certainly not disappointed. Debbie’s helpfulness in making sure we were settled in and giving us local information was fantastic. U Piazzale is such a charming place to stay with its stellar views of both the sea and the mountains. What more could one want? There is so much more however! The village has very good bakers just two minutes away. The very friendly bar restaurant Chez Nadege, not only gave us a good meal but introduced us to the very local Domaine Maestracci. In Monticello, A Pasturella is well worth a visit for the very good value sharing tapas and good quality food generally. We particularly enjoyed the villages – Pigna is a personal favourite as so unspoilt. Generally, the artisan workshops are high quality and a real favourite for jewellery is Dans Les Yeux de Lucie in Feliceto. For confident drivers, a trip down to Porto and up the Spelunca Gorge over the Col de Vergio. Simply breath-taking views. Watch out for the goats, sheep and even the cows, however! Although we are looking forward to our second week in Corsica in the South, it will be very hard to leave here as we’re rather fallen in love with U Piazzale and the area generally.
Karen & Andrew – September 2018
U Piazzale and Fiorella were exceptional and every aspect of Simpson Travel’s service was exemplary. We had one of our best holidays ever.
Mrs Croome – September 2018
U Piazzale is perfectly situated for walks in the glorious countryside of The Balagne, with an excellent bakery and good local restaurants in the picturesque old village. We went to walk and to paint and we were not disappointed.
Mr B Brown – September 2018
We’ve just returned from two fantastic weeks in beautiful Corsica, staying in two different villas – U Piazzale and Villa Punta Bianca. This was our third holiday booked with Simpson Travel and we’ve always been super impressed with the standard of villas. Both places were stunning and the whole family loved every minute of our holiday!
Mrs Petrone – July 2018
This was our first time in Corsica and we had a fabulous time. It was definitely enhanced by the wonderful, U Piazzale and the Simpson Travel experience (Debbie, the local representative). Nothing can beat sitting by the pool or eating breakfast on the kitchen terrace and watching kites swoop and glide. We resisted the tourist trap element for 10 days, but then gave in, and one of our favourite days out was the road train from L'Île-Rousse – we had a great ride up to the lighthouse. Our other favourites included the train to Calvi and driving the Artisan route around the mountain villages, particularly St. Antonino which was lovely – you can park at the bottom and then walk up for the views. We also liked I Scalini and went back for a sunset dinner. We had some top meals in Calvi, L'Île-Rousse and Santa-Reparata.
The Hillier Family – July 2018
We enjoyed watching the kites swooping over the pool and the valley below. Thank you to Debbie, the Simpson Travel representative, for all her help. We enjoyed our stay at U Piazzale very much.
Richard & Katherine Tuck – June 2018
We had a wonderful week. The highlights for us were the beaches – Ghjunchitu for swimming and Arinella for snorkelling and also the walk to St. Antonino. We enjoyed the Artisan trail and a visit to Auberge l'Aghjalle is a must. U Piazzale is a great villa, well maintained with stunning views. Thank you to Simpson Travel and Debbie for a memorable week.
Sharon, Peter and Carolyn – June 2018
We had a wonderful week at U Piazzale. The region is so beautiful and the contrast of the mountains and sea is superb. You must visit Corte – a fascinating town with so much history. The rail trip to Calvi is fun and Calvi itself has a wonderful beach. The mountain villages are amazing – Pigna and St. Antonino particularly. Visit the restaurant at the top of St. Antonino for 360 degree views. Debbie, the Simpson Travel representative’s knowledge is invaluable and she is extremely helpful.
Doug, Helen & Julia Hanney – June 2018
We have enjoyed a fabulous week here. Thank you Debbie and Jenny for your advice. We enjoyed walking from the house to Sant'Antonino, Pigna and the convent; the train to Calvi for the day and walks up to Lac de Melo and Lac de Capitello and the walk in the Foret de Bonifatu to the Refuge de Carozzu. We have had a wonderful stay – thank you.
Sue, John and Naomi – October 2017
I would heartily recommend booking with Simpson Travel, I haven't had one moment when I've regretted booking our holiday with you. The website made the accommodation look too good to be true, but actually, it was very accurate and for us it was a wonderful holiday. I had no idea about Corsica or which part of the island to book and so I spoke to one of your agents prior to booking, who took the time to listen to our requirements and then suggested a few properties, and talked me through each one and explained the different parts of the island. I really value that knowledge and time and we were thrilled with the location, accommodation and everything.
Mrs Bracht – September 2017
What a wonderful villa and village with fantastic views – an all round lovely place. We have had a really glorious week and Debbie was so nice to us.
Paulette & Frank – July 2017
We've had a lovely week here and have enjoyed the villa, the amazing views front and back, the walks and the local food. We took Debbie's advice and took the train to Calvi, the tour of local villages and the walk to Monticello. Most afternoons were spent lazing by the pool, although only one of us was brave enough to get into it. This was our first visit to Corsica and I hope not our last!
Lorraine & David – May 2017
This is only the second time we have booked our holiday with Simpson Travel, but both years have been exceptional holidays. The properties are always very accurately described on the website and you can always speak to someone in the office who has actually been to the property and resorts. The representatives in the resort are always extremely helpful and on hand seemingly 24/7. We would have no hesitation in recommending Simpson Travel to all our friends and family and are very likely to use them again in the future. Thank you again for such an excellent holiday this year and last. I will be getting down to booking our next year's trip very soon.
Mrs Haftke – August 2016
A stunning property with views to die for in a great small village accessible to excellent restaurants nearby and good walks. We have been to it four times which speaks for itself!
Mrs Davies – September 2015
We've had a lovely week staying at U Piazzale on our visit to Corsica. What a special property! We could have easily have spent our entire week at the villa, but we did venture out a little!
Mr Acreman – August 2015
We had a lovely relaxing week at U Piazzale. The stunning view from the terrace as we breakfasted on fresh bread from the village made a lovely start to the day, and we also enjoyed relaxing by the pool. Lots to do locally and we fitted in a variety of walks, beaches and restaurants. Two weeks next time would be great!
Ms Scott – August 2015
Our first time at U Piazzale and as fantastic as we had hoped. We didn't venture too far this year; local walks to nearby villages in the cool of the early morning or early evening, and the rest of the time at the beaches.
Professor Stirling – June 2015
We've just returned from a fantastic holiday in the Balagne area of Corsica – our fourth visit to Corsica. One of our best holidays ever, in terms of villa, situation and Simpson Travel rep.
Mrs Sanders – April 2015
The week has flown by, we had a fabulous stay enjoying Calvi beach, mountain villages, a vineyard and more. The pool here was a firm favourite for us all. So good that we were happy to spend many hours in it.
Dr Shukra – August 2014
We loved the location and the promise of 'the road less travelled' was delivered in spades.
Mrs Giovannoni – July 2014
A wonderful week at U Piazzale. So much to see and do, a week wasn’t long enough.
Mr & Mrs Stirling – June 2014
Really enjoyed our stay here. Loved the contrast of mountain and sea views.
Mr McMans – June 2014
Everything one could wish for in a holiday. A warm welcome from the owners and Debbie. As returning guests, U Piazzale lived up to all the memories.
The Burke Family – May 2014
A great holiday/very good staff/beautiful location... all in all 'jolly good I say'... we love Corsica.
Mr Landon – September 2013
The house, gardens and pool are so perfect and the views so spectacular that we ended up being very lazy. This was our first visit to Corsica and we will undoubtedly be back. We are so impressed with the standard of service and the personal touch afforded by Simpson Travel.
Mr & Mrs George – September 2013
We never visited as much of the island as we originally imagined because the villa and pool were too perfect for us to resist. On top of the peacefulness of the village and spectacular views into the mountains and down to the sea, we've had the ideal week. Thanks for a great week.
The McMahons – August 2013
A lovely week with lovely weather (being up in the hills brings advantages with the cooling breeze). Definitely too much to see in one week. If you catch a moon rise over the mountains it is well worth it. Our children were blown away by it.
Mr Brades – August 2013
Having a wonderful week in Corsica – it's a beautiful island and this is a magical house. Our twin boys aged five have loved learning to snorkel and thoroughly enjoyed the mini-water park at Calvi. Hope we will be back again one day.
Mr Smith – July 2013
Our second visit to this wonderful villa and you only have to be here for a few moments to realise why we returned! A glorious week of sunshine has meant we have spent a lot of time here – and why not! Thanks to Debbie for your help.
Mrs Davies – June 2013
We have enjoyed our week in this remarkable accommodation, and spectacular views; the rapidly changing and dramatic weather conditions have added to entertainment value. We walked to Monticello over the hill to the north and down to the 'lac' or barrage. The sea was too cold for swimming but our pool was the right temperature. Thank you to Debbie for her help.
Mrs Hall – May 2013
Booking and travelling with Simpson Travel could not be easier. We travelled to Corsica in mid-May and found the standard of the accommodation to be excellent and the quality of the information about the villa and the local area to be very comprehensive. The local representative is very helpful. Possibly the most relaxing holiday destination – simply stunning locations – we love the dual aspect. Sun in the morning at the back is a lovely spot for breakfast. So many great things to do – if you can tear yourself away from the pool! A fabulous week, we are very sad to leave. We have normally booked our trips independently, but we will definitely be using Simpson Travel again and will be back to Corsica as soon as we can.
Mrs Gould – May 2013
Excellent stay in a beautiful bergerie. Wonderful views with red kites hovering above over breakfast. Train trip to Calvi and drive through the Balagne villages (especially Pigna) worthwhile. We also really enjoyed the walk from Lumio to Occi, and boat trip from St Florent to the beaches of Lotu and Saleccia.
Mr Cox – May 2013
We prefer dealing with small specialised companies if we are not doing all of the bookings ourselves. Very good company.
Mr Le Coyte – July 2012
Thank you it was a pleasure doing business with your team!
Mrs Wiedeman – March 2012
Our choice of Corsican properties is as diverse as the island itself, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
* For further clarification on Facilities and Amenities, please view the 'Details' tab for each property or speak to one of our experienced sales consultants.
With fishermen mending their nets by the harbour, Calvi’s maritime heritage remains intact. However, the town has gained a new lease of life in the cafés and bars along Quai Landry, linking the marina and the port, with stretches of beach beyond.
Inland, the unspoilt beauty of The Balagne tells a different story of mountain wildernesses and the island's unspoilt and uniquely fragrant maquis. Follow the Route des Artisans through terracotta-tiled hilltop villages, overlooking a landscape of forests and mountains, and you’ll also find that an excellent glass of local wine is never far away.
