Calvi’s 13th-century Genoese citadel dominates the old town skyline: perched on a rocky promontory and lapped by the bright blue of the Mediterranean on three sides, it has become one of the most iconic images of the island, especially if you are lucky enough to approach from the sea.
Tucked away amongst the narrow alleyways and steep staircases that have changed little in the past few hundred years, this spacious penthouse studio apartment sits high on the citadel walls, with glorious sea views from its private terrace. Space is at a premium in such a prime location, so the terrace incorporates an ingenious built-in wooden bar where you can enjoy your morning café au lait or a chilled apéritif before heading out to explore the local restaurants. One of the other wonderful benefits of this old-town location is that there are many places to eat within walking distance, either in the citadel itself or down on the waterfront at Quai Landry below. Calvi’s stunning sandy beach is also reachable within about 15 minutes on foot.
Casa Colombu is ideal for a couple, with a large, open-plan living/sleeping area and a separate kitchen and bathroom. There are quite a few steps up to the penthouse itself and around the streets of the citadel, but the effort of getting here is well rewarded both by the uninterrupted sea views and the sense of history that comes with this special setting.

A fantastic week in this idyllic location. Such a well-designed apartment with all you could need. So, despite arriving to atrocious thunderstorms, it was wonderful to be able to sit them out in comfortable surroundings! We thoroughly enjoyed watching the boats and birds appear eating breakfast on the balcony and seeing the amazing colours in the skies as the sun set. The local restaurant is really friendly, has stunning views from the terrace and is definitely worth a visit. A big thank you to Debbie, who was immensely helpful throughout and particularly in sorting our arrival taxi after a two-hour flight delay and the dreadful weather. We have loved our stay here. What a beautiful place, so unspoiled and charming.

This is the first time we have booked with Simpson Travel and it won’t be the last. We felt that we were looked after from start to finish. We received a first class service and all staff we encountered were very friendly. No hidden extras. The local representative in Calvi, Corsica is very experienced and we were given excellent advice and tips as well as lots of information regarding local amenities and services. Debbie was always available to assist throughout our stay. Highly recommended company.
Customer feedback Had a lovely week in Calvi – beach, eat sleep – has been very hot, so that is our excuse for doing very little! The apartment is in a beautiful location and so well planned – much bigger than I had anticipated. You will always get a warm welcome from the Bar Mi at the bottom of the steps. An absolutely wonderful holiday in a stunning location. The apartment was beautifully furnished and very well equipped and the views were out of this world. The service we received from Simpson Travel throughout was superb and special thanks to their representative in Calvi , Debbie, who was so helpful and friendly. Our fifth visit to Calvi but our first with Simpson Travel and this was by far the best. Simpsons Travel really do go the extra mile.
Upon arrival Laura at the airport was so lovely and helpful and gave us good travel ideas for our destination and we never felt alone for a moment – from arrival to us driving away. What a pleasure! Then Debbie who represents Simpson in the north of Corsica – all we can say is...wow! Debbie left us a great starter basket with variety and milk/wine for arrival. She was great help dealing on the phone with us being a bit stressed upon arrival as we got slightly lost in the citadel. Debbie arrived promptly the next day as promised and was absolutely delightful – so refreshing! Her knowledge of the entire island and insider tips were spot on and amazing – she could be your encyclopaedia for Corsica and we couldn't have wanted for anyone nicer. She booked a number of restaurants for us upon request and upon arrival we were always made to feel important and were greeted with...”Ah welcome, you're Debbie's guests”. We felt like locals. We left Debbie at the end of our stay feeling emotional like we were leaving long lost friends. What we love about Simpson is...what you see is what you get and it's a total pleasure and we feel blessed to be able to afford the odd break with you, so thank you. If you can get into cloning business and do as well as you do travel, could we have a few more Debbies please?

We had a lovely holiday. The apartment and location were superb. Our rep was very kind knowledgeable and accessible. A dream of a holiday in a lovely place.
We had a super week – there are too many lovely places in Corsica to visit – luckily this is our fifth visit to the island with Simpson Travel, so didn’t feel we had to go too far. Debbie was as helpful and accessible as ever and it was especially nice to meet the owner, Pierre-Baptiste, who is a delightful man. Shame a week goes so quickly.
Loved the apartment. Awesome views and the sunsets were stunning. Debbie’s advice re trips and restaurants was spot on (thank you). We had great meals at Casa Vinu and A Candella. We loved the villages, especially Sant’Antonino and spent happy hours on the long, sandy Calvi beach. A great week with plenty of exercise. Walking to the lighthouse was a highlight, as was the walk each morning to the boulangerie on Rue Wilson – the croissants are worth it!
Beautiful views from a stunning apartment! We were so pleased this apartment was just as good as the website photos! Loved the welcome pack from Jenny, very thoughtful and kind. We loved Calvi beach – the best, very calm, shallow sea and Sunbeams for hire. Also loved the shop down the road ‘Le Parte Blue’ for some fantastic gifts. It was a relaxing holiday so didn’t venture too far but the views from Calvi Citadel and the drive up to Sant Antonio was stunning.

With fishermen mending their nets by the harbour, Calvi’s maritime heritage remains intact. However, the town has gained a new lease of life in the cafés and bars along Quai Landry, linking the marina and the port, with stretches of beach beyond.
Inland, the unspoilt beauty of The Balagne tells a different story of mountain wildernesses and the island's unspoilt and uniquely fragrant maquis. Follow the Route des Artisans through terracotta-tiled hilltop villages, overlooking a landscape of forests and mountains, and you’ll also find that an excellent glass of local wine is never far away.
