Holidays in The Algarve
Algarve holidays promise a wealth of different experiences and landscapes, whether you choose a private villa or a hotel as your base.
Portugal’s most southerly region boasts an iconic and instantly recognisable coastline of fine sandy beaches backed by ochre-yellow cliffs, sea stacks and rock archways that stand testament to the power of nature. Inland, there are rolling hills dotted with citrus and olive groves, plus crumbling castles, mountain villages and walking paths to explore. The Algarve is unique in enjoying an Atlantic coast with a Mediterranean climate, attracting not just holidaymakers but also a wide variety of birdlife that flocks to the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
And despite its long term popularity as a villa holiday destination, the Algarve has retained pockets of real character in its old towns and regional capital Faro, where you can still eat well relatively inexpensively. Portuguese cuisine is in our view one of the most underrated in Europe, so prepare to be deliciously surprised by fresh fish, hearty stews, sweet pastries and of course, world-renowned wines: saúde!

Regions in The Algarve
Each of our chosen Algarve regions has its own distinct identity to complement your villa holiday in Portugal. Praia da Luz is a wonderful, family-focused beach resort in its own right, and also the gateway to the surf beaches and wilder landscapes of the west coast of Portugal. Carvoeiro sits wonderfully centrally, offering a lively village atmosphere and villas close to some of the Algarve’s most famous beaches. Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago combine unbeatable sporting facilities with a luxury marina and destination dining at fabulous beach clubs and restaurants. Heading east towards Spain brings you to the delightful historic town of Tavira, surrounded by turquoise lagoons, salt pans alive with flamingos and other bird life, and the natural beauty of the Ria Formosa park.
Carvoeiro & Central Algarve
Carvoeiro is a charming coastal town in the Algarve, known for its steep, sunset-gold cliffs, sandy beaches and beautiful surrounding scenery. Once a traditional fishing community, it now offers excellent holiday facilities, including restaurants, cafés, shops and a wide choice of leisure activities.
The relaxed atmosphere makes it popular with families and couples, while nearby walking trails, golf courses and watersports offer plenty to enjoy. Carvoeiro is also an excellent base for a villa holiday, allowing you to explore the wider Algarve, with picturesque beaches, caves, fishing villages and historic towns all within easy reach.
Praia da Luz & the Western Algarve
Praia da Luz is a relaxed, family-friendly beach resort in the western Algarve, centred around an inviting crescent of golden sand and clear, calm waters. The palm-lined promenade offers a great choice of restaurants, cafés and activities, while nearby villages such as Burgau and Salema provide a quieter, more traditional feel.
Further west, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and unspoilt, with dramatic cliffs, secluded beaches and excellent opportunities for surfing, walking and boat trips. The region is also known for spectacular sunsets and its wild Atlantic scenery, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a villa holiday with a balance of beach life, outdoor adventure and authentic Portuguese character.
Tavira & the Eastern Algarve
Tavira and the Eastern Algarve offer a unique blend of traditional Portuguese character, natural landscapes and spectacular sandy beaches. At the heart of the region, Tavira is a charming historic town with whitewashed buildings, cobbled streets, riverside restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere. Along the coast, the Ria Formosa wetlands create a unique landscape of lagoons, islands and long stretches of pristine sand, with many beaches reached by ferry or small train.
Nearby villages such as Cabanas, Santa Luzia and Cacela Velha each have their own character and provide a quieter alternative to the busier resorts. Further inland, peaceful countryside and rolling hills offer opportunities to explore rural Algarve life, while the Spanish border is also within easy reach.
Vale do Lobo & the Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle, encompassing Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura, is one of the Algarve’s most prestigious holiday areas, combining beautiful beaches, excellent sporting facilities, golf and a wide choice of restaurants and activities. Each resort has its own character, from Vilamoura’s lively marina and cosmopolitan atmosphere to Vale do Lobo’s family-friendly beach setting and Quinta do Lago’s immaculately landscaped surroundings beside the Ria Formosa.
Beyond the resorts, the historic town of Loulé and its surrounding countryside offer a more traditional Portuguese experience. With everything from watersports and cycling to golf, dining and relaxing on the beach, the area suits families, couples and groups alike.
