  • Comfortable refurbished villa
  • Set in an extensive manicured garden
  • Ideal for two families travelling together
  • Delightful outdoor pergola

A warm welcome at the end of a private road, the recently refurbished Casa Brilli is a comfortable choice near the Renaissance town of Castiglion Fiorentino. Beyond the generous garden, perfect for little ones to let off steam, you have the rolling Tuscan countryside in all its glory. There’s also a large private pool and an outside dining area beneath a shady pergola for the kind of leisurely mealtimes Italy is famous for.

One of the great advantages of Casa Brilli is the flexibility of the accommodation it offers. Ideal for two families travelling together or a group of friends, the two floors have separate entrances and their own kitchens, living areas and contemporary bath or shower room. Upstairs, there’s a master bedroom and a twin room with bunk beds; downstairs there’s a twin (or double if you prefer), as well as a larger kitchen and working fireplace. For two couples or young families, it can tick all the right boxes.

Early mornings, Giancarlo, the father of the owner, Roberto, can sometimes be seen pottering about the vegetable patch in a corner of the spacious grounds, the likely outcome being a selection of vegetables picked fresh for you, as well as newly-laid eggs for breakfast from the resident chickens. He takes great pride in Casa Brilli – and the traditional touches that were woven into the refurbishments; his enthusiasm is infectious.

The local area

You’ll find everything you need in the impressive Renaissance town of Castiglion Fiorentino, just 6km away. Rising above the Valdichiana Plain, if offers banks, shops and chemists as well atmospheric bars, traditional squares, open-air restaurants and culture aplenty – the old Gothic church of San Francesco and the Madonna della Consolazione temple are worth a visit.

Cortona, 14km away, is a jewel of a hilltop town that is still pleasantly free from tourists. From there, you have lovely views across to nearby Lake Trasimeno. During the last week of August and the first in September, it also hosts one of the most important antique furniture fairs in Europe, the Cortonantiquaria, in the 17th-century Palazzo Vagnotti.

Arezzo, 22km away, is also close at hand with its churches, museums, restaurants and Roman ruins to absorb you on a day trip. There’s also a twice-yearly jousting competition, La Giostra del Saracino, in June and September, with much pageantry and a healthy dose of competition.

Customer feedback

You know it’s too hot when the locals are complaining – so with the mercury nudging 38C early in the week, the pool and the cool villa were welcome refuge. Braving the heat, we carried on like mad dogs and Englishmen and ventured to Cortona for possible the lunch of the week at Bucaccia – highly recommended! A quick trip to the outlet mall at Valdichiana kept the retail therapy ticking over before heading to Baracchi Winery. Thank you to Giancarlo, Roberto and Margherita for your warm welcome, hospitality and especially the delicious gelato from Coco Palm Gelateria!
Phil, Gertie & Emma – August 2019

We have had a wonderful week. With temperatures in the mid to high 30s every day we scaled back the sightseeing and spent some incredibly relaxing days making the most of the fabulous pool and gardens. Giancarlo has been very generous in sharing his tomatoes, melons and fresh eggs from the chickens – all of which were delicious. We have enjoyed strolling the streets of Cortona and Castiglioni Fiorentino and had one particularly lovely lunch overlooking Lake Trasimeno at Castiglione del Lago. All in all a really restful holiday.
The Clifford family – August 2019

We have had a superb, relaxing holiday, thanks to the generosity and hospitality of the Brilli family. A lovely villa, historic towns on our doorstep and good restaurants nearby. We split our time between sightseeing by car – travelling to Arezzo, Siena and Cortona – and relaxing by the pool. It was lovely to be greeted every morning by Giancarlo, who shared the produce from his garden – cucumbers, courgettes, lettuce – as well as fresh eggs from the chickens. We used the Waze app to get around, which works well in Italy. There is a fabulous little bakery called Mena about half a kilometre from the villa but you need to be there by 8:30am latest before they sell out. Wine award goes to Giancarlo who gave us a homemade bottle from his own grapes in the garden. Delicious. Grazie to everyone.
The Williams family – July 2019

We have had an amazing week. Loved the pool and the ‘camp’ as we called it in the garden. Thanks to Giancarlo for his lovely vegetables. Hope to return next year.
The Spence family – July 2019

A charming house in an untouristy corner of Tuscany. The Brilli family were warm and kind hosts, making sure we were comfortable at all times, giving us fresh produce from their garden, eggs from their chickens and even wine made from their grapes. The delightful little town of Castiglion Fiorentino nearby had some good restaurants and was full of atmosphere. We had a very happy, quintessentially Italian holiday.
The Williams family – July 2019

Casa Brilli exceeded our expectations and the location was idyllic. The sound of the trains did not detract from the tranquillity of the setting and the grounds and pool were superb. We were well looked after by the family owners with a generous welcome pack and fresh vegetables and eggs from the garden. We were able to visit all the historic towns on our list as they were all within easy driving distance. Thank you Simpson and the Brilli family for a memorable first holiday in Tuscany and our first with you.
Ian & Claire Jefferies – June 2019

We have had a wonderful stay at Casa Brilli. Roberto and his family have been so welcoming, so warm and generous, nothing is too much trouble. Casa Brilli has been a great base for exploring the surrounding hilltop towns. We visited Cortona, Pienza, Montepulciano, Castelione de Lago and Luagnano. We have had a wonderfully relaxing time by the pool, enjoying Giancarlo’s melons, figs and tomatoes. We would recommend La Piana in Castaglia, lovely food and terrace with great service and also Il Goccino in Luagnano, excellent food and again a lovely setting and very helpful staff. All in all, a delightful holiday. Thank you, Simpson Travel, and you Roberto and family.
The Jones Family – August 2018

We have had an amazing holiday at Casa Brilli – very relaxing. Roberto and his family have made us feel very welcome. The pool and surrounding grounds are gorgeous. Plus, you are very well placed for the rest of Tuscany. Though, to be honest, we spent most of our time at the house, enjoying the pool, cooking gorgeous Italian food and soaking up the atmosphere. Locally, definitely check out Restaurante Muzzirante for the amazing steak and pizzeria Roggi. We’ve had a great time and would love to come back. Grazie Roberto.
Jonathan, Lisa, Harry & Freddy – August 2018

The owners of Casa Brilli, Roberto and his wife and family, went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were very friendly. We were provided with a generous welcome pack and Roberto's father Giancarlo gave us wonderful fresh produce from his garden. The pool was lovely and much needed in the heat. The villa was very comfortable.
Mr Fenning – July 2018

Casa Brilli is so comfortable and we had the most relaxing week next to the beautiful pool. Thanks go to Roberto and his family for their hospitality – they exceeded our expectations with their welcome gifts, pastries and vegetables from the garden. We visited Arezzo and Montepulciano with its fabulous views. We saw the mediaeval procession at Castiglion Fiorentino. We didn’t want to leave.
Deborah & César – June 2018

We have just been here for the week and wished it was much more! Beautiufyul Tuscan countryside mixed with the kind welcome of Roberto and Giancarlo. We were given a lovely box of local cakes on our arrival and got to listen to Giancarlo's music box! The pool has been wonderful to relax in and the boys have had great fun here.
The Harrisons – August 2017

We have had such a lovely stay at Casa Brilli and wish we were not leaving! The villa has been ideal – it has everything you need and the air conditioning in the bedrooms is an added bonus. Thank you so much to Roberto and parents – they have gone out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and we loved seeing Roberto's father each day who comes to water the plants. He's so kind and friendly – if only we spoke more Italian! Sienna is about an hour away and definitely worth a trip – beautiful plaza and cathedral. About 30 minutes away is a large lake which is worth a trip – the water is even warmer that the pool and in the main part of the village at the top of the hill is a lovely street with nice cafés, bars and another impressive church. Great views of the lake from here. Thank you so much Roberto and family for your hospitality, generosity and hosting. We have had a fabulous week!
The Jones' – August 2017

We’ve had a wonderful stay here and really look forward to returning one day! We spent most of our days at the pool resting and swimming and went out to the towns in the evening for dinner! Giancarlo and Roberta were lovely hosts! We will be back!

Annemieke, Mark and Clara – July 2017

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at Villa Brilli. Roberto and his parents have been very friendly and welcoming and we particularly enjoyed the vegetables and fruit from here – the tomatoes in particular were delicious not to mention the melons and aubergines! A wonderful way to spend a week in this beautiful area of Italy.
The Procter Family – July 2017

This is the second time we have stayed at Casa Brilli. The first was 10 years ago! The inside has been completely renovated and modernised since then and the addition of the gazebo in the garden provides some additional shade from the sun. Other than that, everything is just as typically Tuscan as we remember. Giancarlo comes by almost every day to water the plants and tend to his chickens and ‘ensalata’. I wish we knew more Italian because he is so friendly and generous offering us ensalata and cherries fresh from the tree – very sweet.  We had such fond memories of him from last time and again he really looked after us. Roberta has been very helpful and kind too. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We’ve had (another) fabulous holiday. Hopefully we won’t leave it another 10 years. Thank you Roberta, Giancarlo and Theresa for looking after us and for your hospitality!
