- Beautiful beachside villa in SW Crete
- Adult only
- Stylish and contemporary
- Taverna 5-minute walk
- Paleochora 5-minute drive
Ammos is one of the beautiful new Cedar Bay Villas, three very stylish properties located directly on the pale golden sands of Grammeno beach close to the village of Kountoura. The architect’s vision was to create the blueprint for the perfect contemporary beach house, combining modern comfort and design with the timeless pleasure of sun-warmed sand between the toes. Rather more unexpected is the private swimming pool for each immaculate villa.
Kountoura has a couple of tavernas with one on the beach serving delicious local seafood for lunch or dinner and also ideal for a glass of something ice-cold at sunset. The beach snack bar will deliver drinks and light lunches direct to your villa or to your designated sunbeds on the beach.
Enchanting Paleochora with its old town of pretty pathways and narrow streets is just five minutes away by car. From the port you can take boat trips along the south coast to Loutro. Or, explore the area, including the herb-scented Anidri gorge and the wild, rugged beauty of the Grammeno peninsula itself, which has a couple of wonderful small sandy coves and the feeling of being on the road less travelled.
Cedar Bay Beachside Villas are exclusive to couples or adults. However, if all three villas are booked together by one party in July or August then children would be most welcome. All three villas taken together will sleep up to ten.

We were very impressed with the customer service we received whilst on holiday in Crete. We had lots of information from representatives and felt well supported. Nothing was too much trouble. We wouldn't hesitate to book with Simpson Travel in the future or recommend them to friends and family.
Gill & Simon – Ammos – October 2019
A restful week in Villa Ammos. The villa and its location will be hard to beat. Thank you Maria for a delightful stay.
Jennifer & Peter – October 2019
Our fourth time at Cedar Bay – first time in Ammos. As always we’ve had a lovely relaxing break. Who could want for more? One restaurant we like is The Palm Tree – at the edge of the town. A big thank you to all who made this possible.
Simon & Lindsay – October 2019
A wonderful two week stay at Cedar Bay. The villa and location are perfect. We liked the two beach bars, particularly the friendly staff. We visited all three local tavernas. Eating out in Paleochora was a delight. Our favourite was Little Angels. Thank you to Maria and her staff.
Jim & Chris – September 2019
This has been a great holiday for us and this villa was great. Will be back – thank you to the staff who are great and a special thanks to Maria.
Dennis & Laurel – August 2019
This has been our first visit to Crete and will certainly not be our last! We have had a glorious two weeks with many lazy days relaxing by the pool and swimming in the sea. Favourite trips – Lissos (beautiful bay, great ruins), Omolos, Botanical Gardens, Chania. Favourite tavernas – Grammeno, amazing traditional food; Third Eye – incredible vegetarian food. Thank you so much to Maria and her staff and all at Simpson – we have had a perfect holiday and have absolutely loved staying in this beautiful villa. We’ll be back.
Philip & Jess – August 2019
Our third visit and not the last. This time with friends staying next door. Beautiful hot weather. Lovely food – Castro is our favourite. The campsite shop is handy for water, milk, etc. Thank you to Klaudia, Katherine, Xnthippos and of course Maria!
Anne & Patrick – July 2019
We can’t stay away from the villa because it’s so perfect. There is a good variety of restaurants in Paleochora from modern fusion Greek food to traditional.
Caroline & Martin – July 2019
Cedar Bay Villas suited our holiday requirements perfectly. They have been beautifully and thoughtfully designed and the whole team Maria has put together make every effort to make sure your holiday is perfect. The location is truly amazing – marvellous beach access combined with privacy together with proximity to excellent tavernas and beach bars.
Michael Burton – July 2019
We have stayed twice before at Cedar Bay and we love the pool and garden here. We much enjoyed walking down the Anidri Gorge and spending the day on Anidri Beach. The walk is a challenging scramble of about 90 minutes. The beach is wonderful – go for the day and eat well, buy a dress and have a spa treatment. As always Eleni and Stelios and team give a very warm welcome.
Michael & Imogen – June 2019
We have had a wonderful time – Ammos is certainly the best villa we have stayed in, another hit from Simpson Travel. Thank you, Maria, for your warm welcome and the presents.
Keith & Sue – June 2019
Our fourth stay at Villa Ammos. Fantastic three weeks, now back to winter in Norway. Many nice walks, lazy days by the pool and on the beaches. Thanks once more to Maria, Klaudia and Margaret for excellent service.
Mr P – September 2018
A wonderful stay at a very special place has helped set us up for the long Scottish winter. A beach we found which was glorious was called Kedrodasos, located about 2km away from Elafonisi and involves about 1km walk down a track to get there, but it’s so worth it. Very little shade and nowhere to buy food/water (so take both if possible). We spent the day there and on Margaret’s recommendation walked to Elafonisi for about 16:30, then walked down to a much quieter island and watched the evening sun. Glorious, but don’t do what we did and attempt to get there in a hire car on an unmade road from Kipsos – take the main road!Have a wonderful holiday! We are very jealous!
Mr & Mrs H – August 2018
A perfect two weeks at Villa Ammos – definitely the best of the three in terms of privacy! Many long, lovely days spent by the pool! Local beach is also great if you want to do a bit of snorkelling or have a late afternoon beer in the bar. My husband does say, though, not to walk on the beach barefoot in the midday sunshine! Great location too for visits locally. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk up and down the Anidri Gorde – just the right amount of challenge in this heat! We didn’t do that much eating out (facilities in the villa mean you can eat in if you want to spend money on other things), but do recommend Castro. Interesting twist on Greek food but be warned the starters are huge! Everyone has been very helpful and, although we are not normally creatures of habit, we are considering returning.
Mr & Mrs A – August 2018
We visited Sougia, which was a nice drive and a pretty little bay. Had one of their local pies in the bakery for lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed. Margaret was very helpful; she will always answer the questions you might have. She keeps the place and surrounding areas immaculate! We will definitely be returning in the near future!
Mr S – July 2018
Our first visit to this part of Crete and will certainly not be the last. We loved it! The villa is superb inside, outside and positioned well. We ate (and drank) a lot in Grammeno where everyone could not have been better. The beach bar is also a gem. In Paleochora – what a lovely little town – we ate two superb meals in Caravella and bought a few little bottles of their oil to take home as presents. A HUGE thanks to fabulous Margaret for all her hard work and help – also to Klaudia and Maria. The first thing I am going to do on return home is to look at availability for our next visit!
Mrs J – July 2018
It could be boring to say this is our fourth stay here but we still find new experiences. The trouble with this place is that it ticks all the boxes for an idyllic holiday. Perfectly situated and an incredibly comfortable villa – we can’t find anywhere else we would rather be! Margaret has been a treasure. She is also incredibly competent and looks after all the villas and the gardens (Wonderwoman!). The restaurants get better every year. Gremmeno scores very highly being close by and serving delicious traditional food. Palm Tree is also excellent – Greek with a modern twist. As usual, the beach is very welcoming. Eleni and Stelios are incredibly friendly and will always help with queries.
Mr & Mrs B – July 2018
This was our first visit to Crete. The directions to the villa were superb. On arrival, we were greeted by Maria, who showed us around the villa and explained certain information to us regarding the villa. It was just perfect, we could not have asked for better! It was very clean and comfortable, and in a perfect location for a relaxing holiday. We spent many days, relaxing by the pool and enjoyed time wandering. We visited many of the restaurants whilst there. Our favourite was Caravella – we had a fantastic meal for my husband’s birthday. The other restaurants we particularly enjoyed were Gremenno and Methexis.
Mr & Mrs S – July 2018
Our fourth year in this wonderful place. We clearly love it here and hope to return for many more years. Eugene always makes us welcome and this year the new staff, Margaret and Klaudia, have been no exception. Thank you to everyone!
Mr T – June 2018
Fantastic holiday! Amazing weather getting progressively hotter each day. We hit 39 degrees!Local shop and bakery were excellent. We went to Castro twice and the views, food, service and wine were great! Even the first white wine on the list at €13 was excellent. Margaret has been amazing and been a daily friendly face that has helped make this a great holiday.
Mrs C – May 2018
This was our second visit to Cedar Bay Villas in Crete and will definitely not be our last! The location and the villa itself are perfect, everything you could wish for. Simpson Travel is great and nothing is too much trouble. We would wholeheartedly recommend them.
Mrs Page – September 2017
An absolutely stunning holiday – thank you! It has been magical from beginning to end. Our boys have thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful beach on their doorstep – as have we! Able to relax, not worry about packing tons of bags to take everywhere...it has been bliss. You are in for a treat!
Mark, Kate, Toby & Ollie – August 2017
Our third booking with Simpson Travel, two previously to Paxos. We did not believe that the previous two bookings could be bettered but they were. An absolute perfect holiday in Crete, the villa and location were absolutely spot on. The whole experience with Simpson Travel is smooth. We look forward to booking with you again. Many thanks.
Mr Harvey – August 2017
Cedar Bay Beachside Villas are so near to paradise. But paradise is half as nice as heaven so its nearly there.
Mr Bean – July 2017
Ammos is superb as it has more privacy than the other two but all of them are well worth going to.
Mrs Lake – July 2017
Since our first experience travelling with Simpson Travel, we've come back every year. The properties and arrangements are fantastic, and we've always had a really friendly and helpful (but also a discreet) team of local reps who go out of their way to make everything slick and worry-free so you can concentrate on the important business of relaxing.
Mr Vetch – June 2017
Our choice of Greek properties is as diverse as the islands themselves, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
* For further clarification on Facilities and Amenities, please view the 'Details' tab for each property or speak to one of our experienced sales consultants.
The soaring White Mountains, known in Greek as the Lefka Ori, are at the heart of West Crete’s dramatically beautiful landscape and the villages in their foothills offer traditional Cretan fare in glorious abundance – that’s if Chania’s twinkling harbour lights and waterfront dining don’t entice you first. Spring brings an abundance of flowers, turning hiking trails and gorges into welcome destinations for walkers, and in summer, the many beaches offer sun worshippers a choice of scenic locations to spread their towels.
