  • Beautiful sea views above Almyrida
  • Contemporary and stylish
  • Close to tavernas and sandy beach
  • Nearby to watersports and activities

Villa Vereniki sits in an elevated position close to our Villa Asterikos, and enjoys the same magnificent views across Souda Bay and the Lefka Ori, Crete’s distinctive White Mountains. With delightful countryside all around and the seaside town of Almyrida below, this is a wonderful place to sample a taste of Cretan country life alongside all the pleasures of a traditional family beach holiday.

Almyrida is a long-standing favourite at Simpson Travel, known for its seafront tavernas supplied by the local fishing fleet that dictates the daily menus. The beaches here are a mix of sand and pebble, gently shelving and therefore popular with young families as well as windsurfers when the conditions are right. If you’re travelling with older children, equipment hire and tuition is available during the main season, and for teenagers welded to wi-fi, the villa pool and its terrace make a cool spot to snap and share.

The town is a 15-20-minute downhill stroll from Villa Vereniki, or just a few minutes in the car. There are a few low-key bars, shops and enough tavernas to ring the changes for a week or so, but for a change of scene you can head off into the inland villages of the Apokronos, such as Plaka and Gavalochori. Chania town, with its Venetian harbour, market and wonderful restaurants, is 25km away.

We have had a really relaxing week in this lovely villa. The weather has been good with only one cloudy day, which we spent in Chania and Aptera. Enjoyed three days on the beach. This is a really friendly place – especially enjoyed coffee at the bakery and getting daily bread, spinach pie and baklava. Thanks for a lovely stay in a lovely villa – lots of thoughtful touches but best of all the wonderful views in every direction.

Lynn and Peter, October 2023

Fourth time to Crete with Simpson and this has been the best! From the wonderful villa (thank you Stelios) to the lovely laidback village of Almyrida with everything you need. Even the walks back up the hills were kind of enjoyable! Thank you to Janice for all your help and suggestions and to the lovely people who have kept the villa immaculate for us during our stay. We hope to be back.

John and Kate, September 2023

Vereniki an outstanding villa in every respect.

Mr Thomas Kelley, September 2023

We have had a splendid holiday in Almyrida. Stelios made us truly welcome on this our second visit to his outstanding properties. They are extremely well maintained by him and his assistant. All in all a beautiful relaxing holiday.

Linda & Tom, September 2023

Excellent service from Simpson Travel and beautiful villa with stunning views.

Mrs Sarah Fitzgerald, September 2023

What an amazing villa in a very lovely spot. First time to Crete and loved it. Stelios looked after us extremely well – grapes and fruit off his trees to die for. Thank you, Janice, for looking after us, and for the lovely evening at Simpson’s GK Beach Hotel.

The Grisdales, August 2023

What an amazing week – a fantastic holiday – a week isn’t enough! The villa has been excellent, thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool, barbecue and sheep visitors! Lots of restaurant choices on the seafront for breakfast, lunch and dinner. George and the taxi folks are helpful and reliable and Janice has been brilliant with lots of help and advice when needed. Thanks for a wonderful holiday, full of fun and memories – we would love to come back soon.

Steve, Jo, Alex & Zac, August 2023

We had a fantastic time in this lovely villa.

The Cole family, July 2023

As Simpson regulars, I would say this was one of the best of your villas in terms of location and comfort. Beautiful views, lots of birds to watch, lovely gardens and pool with sun all day long. Had a great week not doing a great deal but enjoying the views from the pool. The monasteries above Souda are beautiful – well worth the trip. Special shout out to Janice who was just brilliant when our son developed severe earache just before the flight home - and to Stelios who looks after his villa with immense pride.

Diane Akin, June 2023

What a wonderful villa and with a view to die for! One could never get bored of the views all around We had the most relaxing week. Our overseas concierge, Janice, was so very helpful in every respect, even directing me by phone as I was driving to find the villa Her knowledge was second to none and she also made sure that we got the airport assistance we needed for departure The villa is very well equipped with everything you could wish for and everywhere so lovely and clean We would love to go back to Villa Vereniki but there are so many more gorgeous Simpson villas to be explored.

Erica Bennett, May 2023

Villa well appointed and maintained. Fantastic sea and mountain views. Outside space and pool area were very inviting. Almyrida has plenty of places to eat and shop. Thoroughly enjoyed a late season break using the villa as a base mainly for walking.

Ann Tizard, October 2022

Absolutely stunning location with such a wonderful view from the villa, gave us total privacy but only a 20 minute walk to restaurants and shops. We would love to visit again with so much more to explore. We stayed with our son and girlfriend and found so much to do but not enough time!

Jonathan Cornick, September 2022

Villa Vereniki surpassed our expectations! It was gorgeous and the panoramic views from it were outstanding. The villa was very clean and spacious and equipped to a high standard. We were not overlooked by any other property and found the seclusion very relaxing. It was a comfortable walk down to Almyrida beach and taverners however we did not attempt to walk back! The access road to the Villa would not have been easy in the dark. Taxis were however readily available. Alexia the Simpson Travel Rep was informative and easy to contact. Would definitely use Simpsons Travel again.

Julie Readyhough, September 2022

When our family decided that Crete was to be our holiday destination it was such a relief to find Simpson an expert travel company. From my initial telephone enquiry months ago to saying goodbye to the representative at Chania airport everyone at Simpson Travel has been exemplary. The experience, knowledge and understanding of Simpson Travel ensured we could all enjoy a wonderful week and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Justin Rose, July 2022

Just the best holiday. Thank you. Alexia was lovely and was available if we had any queries and provided some lovely suggestions of things to do that we’d asked for.

David Hanson, May 2022

Villa Vereniki is a new villa finished to a high standard, it has everything you could wish for – even a diffuser for the hair dryer for those of us with curly hair! A great base for exploring the sights of West Crete. If you get the opportunity hike the Samaria Gorge, stunning scenery and worth the early start! Alternatively relax by the pool with panoramic views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains. Almyrida has everything you need, mini-markets, deli, ice cream parlour, butcher, great bakery, beaches and tavernas. What more do you need for the perfect holiday? Mr & Mrs C – October 2018Villa Vereniki was superb, it exceeded our expectations in all aspects. Every morning the stunning views made you say wow! The villa was very clean and the best equipped we have ever stayed in. All the Simpson staff we have dealt with both in UK and in Crete have been extremely helpful and friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble, even when we decided we wanted to change dates. We are already looking for next years dates, thank you all.

Philippa Smitheman, May 2022

Lovely villa with beautiful views of the coast and white mountains. Stelios (the owner) made us very welcome and we enjoyed the oranges from the garden. Within easy reach of Chania and Rethymno both of which are well worth a visit. Lots to explore. We had a wonderful holiday and many thanks to Alexia (our rep) for her help and Stelios.

Simon Fenning, April 2022

Lovely clean and spacious villa – the villa and pool were a credit to the owners and Simpson Travel. It was roughly 1/2 mile outside Almyrida and if you’re up for a gentle stroll down to the harbour, you can enjoy the view and a few drinks. Simpson were very easy to deal with and kept us up to date with any travel or Covid-19 related issues. When we travel again, we will probably use Simpson Travel. We also recommend them as they seem to find some real hidden gems!

Simpson Travellers – via TrustPilot, November 2020

Vereniki is a beautiful and well-appointed villa in a lovely location with spectacular views. The attention to detail was excellent. As always the Simpson staff at the airport and locally were very helpful and very welcoming. Almyrida is a small, friendly town with very good tavernas, shops, etc. and a lovely beach.

JG, October 2019

Just back from a great holiday in Crete. A special thanks to Enya who did a great job with the booking and to Klaudia in resort who gave us loads of ideas and helped the whole holiday run smoothly.

Mr Robinson, September 2019

What a brilliant week! A comfortable, spacious villa and what a great place to view the many sunsets, sea and mountains. The vista couldn’t be more spectacular – probably our top villa for views…and we have stayed in a few! We enjoyed eating out at various locations in Almyrida which is so easy and accessible to get to but eating in was also such a pleasure due to the wonderful views. Another highlight of the week for Will was walking part of the Samaria Gorge – such great views from the top. He only walked halfway as his car was parked at the start but a full tour can be done which would include a ferry ride at the end. Thank you Klaudia for all your help and suggestions once we had arrived but also for catering for our requirements before we got here. It is much appreciated.

Sally & Will, September 2019

We have had a fantastic two weeks with a mixture of lazy days at the villa and exciting day trips. The villa itself is positioned perfectly with the most amazing views across Almyrida and sunsets to die for! The villa has everything needed for a comfortable stay including a well-equipped kitchen. The pool is well maintained and a delight for young children and adults alike. Very refreshing after a day out sightseeing. The day trip to Heraklion is recommended with a visit to the Archaeological Museum and ancient Knossos is a must – the most incredible artefacts on show. We would definitely come back to Vereniki just for the view alone! Sad to be leaving. Thank you to Stelios and Klaudia.

The Paterson family, August 2019

We loved the villa, the pool and the views, and we really appreciated the owner’s hospitality, who (alongside your representative, Klaudia) made us feel particularly welcome – even by Simpson Travel's high standards. It was a lovely spot and we were really sorry to leave it.

David Wastell & family, July 2019

The villa is like new – such beautiful views. Had a lovely week to celebrate my 60th.

The McDonald family, May 2019

First visit to Crete and a perfect two weeks in the excellent situated and appointed Villa Vereniki. Everything about the design and equipping of the house had been carefully thought through. Klaudia was an informative and caring host with a lot of information about walks and climbs all over the island. Highlight for us was the Imbros Gorge which a family of 3 can walk up and down in 6 hours. Chania is well worth a visit – the Archaeological Museum is very interesting and manageable for children. Best meal was Parisia in Vamos.

Angela, Christopher & Camille, May 2019

First week of the season. The villa is like new. Such beautiful views. Had a lovely week to celebrate my 60th birthday and I had no clue we were going on holiday. A total surprise! I’m sure we will come here again but just a little later in the season. Don’t fear the walk up the hill – it’s not as bad as it seems.

Neil, Maria, Callum, Ella, Adele & Ellis, April 2019

Overall a very enjoyable experience at the villa. It was only about a year old so everything was still clean and fresh and worked well. The villa's position and views were excellent and the Simpson staff gave the best service we have ever experienced!

Mandy, April 2019

We had a wonderful time at Villa Vereniki, feeling right at home from the moment that Stelios welcomed us and showed us around the beautiful villa. Ray, the Simpson Travel representative, was very helpful with tips and advice tailored to our interests and requests. Apart from enjoying the location and facilities at the villa, the sheep, birds of prey and swallows drinking from the pool we also snorkelled at Octopus bay which has crystal clear water. We found the Minoan Tomb, we cantered on the beach on horseback and then swam in the sea on horses. We walked to the Imbros Gorge and rewarded ourselves with an ice-cold beer at the bottom. We also went to Chania by bus which was very easy. Chania is beautiful around the old harbour and fort area – especially at sunset. We all thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and all said it had been one of our best.

Paul, Clare, Isobel & Ellen, August 2018

This was our first visit to Crete and what a wonderful time we had. Villa Vereniki is beautiful and the view stunning. Almyrida has a good selection of tavernas and shops and a lovely beach, but it never felt too busy or touristy. We drove over the mountains to Hora Sfakion to hire a boat. It is a beautiful drive, if somewhat scary in places! Chania town is definitely worth a visit. It’s a lovely mixture of ancient port, narrow winding streets and modern shops.

Miranda, Tim, Rosie & Joseph, August 2018

We had a super two weeks at Villa Vereniki. It is set up like a home from home. Perfect! Almyrida is a great local base where you can hire windsurfers or Hobie Cats by the hour or longer. There are some good restaurants. Motor boat hire is available in the south of the island: Hora Sfakion, and in the north on the Chania airport side at Marathi. Ray, our Simpson Travel representative, also arranged a day’s sailing in a yacht out of Chania. That was good fun and we had a good skipper. There are some lovely inland villages between Almyrida and the mountains. Finally, Knossos and the archaeological museum at Heraklion – a full day out and a long drive. The museum in particular is impressive and less busy than the palace.

Alastair & Deborah, July 2018

We spent a fabulous two weeks at Villa Vereniki. It’s a very well-equipped villa and a lot of thought has gone into it. There are great views all day long and some wonderful sunsets. The infinity pool is great and we sunbathed on the comfortable sunbeds. We visited some great places too. Lake Kournas is beautiful and lovely to experience via pedalo. The Botanical gardens, followed by lunch at the taverna was particularly lovely. Trips to the Aptera ruins, Gavalohori, Chania, Samaria, Therisos Gorge and also Rethymno were great days out. The two hour dream boat trip was very good too. We loved visiting Crete – very friendly people and great food. Thanks to Stelios and Ray for looking after us so well.

Keith, Suki, Sadie & Chloe, July 2018

We had a lovely two weeks in Crete – the first week in Villa Asteriskos and the second in Villa Vereniki. Both villas are excellent and we received great support from Ray, the Simpson Travel representative. We can recommend the Botanical gardens. Chania was beautiful, but busy and we had a good sea trip with Georgios. We loved Crete with its good food and friendly people.

Caroline & Nigel Redmond, Ann & Tony Hopwell, June 2018

We were the second guests to visit Villa Vereniki, recreating our family holidays from the 90s with our now grown-up children and their partners. We loved the villa, especially the position and the view of the sunset every evening for sundowners. We spent one lovely day hiring a boat and chugging along the coast, stopping at various spots for swimming, eating and drinking. There are some nice villages and lovely clear water. We had a lovely relaxing week – thank you to Simpson Travel for looking after us again.

Gill & Mike, June 2018

We were the first visitors to this brand new villa, Villa Vereniki. We were slightly concerned in case it wasn’t quite ready, but upon arrival, Stelios very proudly showed us around and we were impressed and delighted with everything. We were impressed with the owner’s attention to detail, from the well equipped kitchen, the laundry room, make up mirrors (hurrah!) and the toiletries supplied – amongst other things. The welcome pack was comprehensive and the WiFi amazing. The location of the villa is wonderful and the views are stunning – both the coast and the mountains. You do need a car, but there are lots of possible walks in the Apokoronas region. In Chania, we did Captain Nick’s boat trip and the town and harbour are lovely.

The soaring White Mountains, known in Greek as the Lefka Ori, are at the heart of West Crete’s dramatically beautiful landscape and the villages in their foothills offer traditional Cretan fare in glorious abundance – that’s if Chania’s twinkling harbour lights and waterfront dining don’t entice you first. Spring brings an abundance of flowers, turning hiking trails and gorges into welcome destinations for walkers, and in summer, the many beaches offer sun worshippers a choice of scenic locations to spread their towels.
