  • Charming village house
  • Located in delightful Cabrières d’Avignon
  • Short walk to restaurant and shops
  • Set in the heart of Luberon

In the heart of Cabrières d’Avignon, on the edge the Luberon lavender fields, Villa Camille offers elegant, family-sized accommodation in a traditional village setting. Cabrières may not have the cachet of nearby Gordes or the other hilltop villages in this sun-drenched region, but what it lacks in height it makes up for in authentic charm, not to mention the pleasing lack of other visitors in comparison to its more celebrated neighbours.

The villa sits in 830sqm of enclosed gardens, fragrant with roses, herbs and lavender, the signature scents of Provence. You can find your own favourite corner to relax on the various terraces, including one on the first floor which has lovely local views. Parts of the house and garden are constructed using the traditional dry-stone method, which you’ll see in many old buildings around the village and throughout the area. Less traditional is the decent-sized swimming pool, quite a rarity in such a central location and a tempting prospect for an early morning dip before venturing out to test your French at the local bakery. The other beauty of this villa is that everything you need for holiday living is within walking distance, including a small bistro, a bakery and grocery shop. On days when you feel like a little more choice you’ve got gourmet Gordes 5 minutes away in one direction, and the delightful shops and restaurants of riverside L’Isle sur La Sorgue around 15 minutes the other way. So whether you plan to explore the region or soak up the very local atmosphere of Cabrières, Villa Camille will accommodate you in great comfort and style.

The local area

There are two small but worthwhile sights virtually on the doorstep of Villa Camille: the Village des Bories, which explains the history of the dry-stone constructions so typical of the area, and the excellent Musée de la Lavande at Coustellet (3km), a must for anyone contemplating a tour of the lavender fields. The Luberon has a wealth of honey-toned hill-top towns, and you’re surrounded by famous names such as Gordes, Ménerbes and Bonnieux, all within easy driving distance. If the waistline starts to suffer after too much tapenade, truffles and tarte aux abricots, you can follow the Luberon bike trail or take to the hills on foot. L’Isle sur la Sorgue, bisected by the sparkling Sorgue river, is full of interesting antique shops and offers one of the widest choices of restaurants locally, whilst the Roman towns of Orange (60km) and Avignon (35km) make for longer but very rewarding days out, especially if you can visit outside the peak summer months.
