  • Stylish new villa
  • Sought-after Luberon location
  • Walking distance to shops and restaurants
  • Private heated swimming pool
  • Air conditioning

This pristine new villa in the heart of the Luberon is an absolute gem for a family or perhaps two couples, ideally located within walking distance of Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt. The village is delightfully photogenic, dominated by limestone cliffs and crumbling castle walls, with many wonderful viewpoints over the wider Luberon landscape beyond. This timeless view is pure Provence, and creates a perfect counterpoint to the contemporary style of Villa des Chênes, nestled into its own lavender-filled gardens in a pretty residential area just a kilometre from the village.

Your home-from-home has everything you need for a very comfortable stay, with three en-suite bedrooms and plenty of space for lounging both inside and out. The terrace faces south so you can enjoy the sunshine right into early evening through the summer months, and if the midday temperatures are too much, there’s also a large covered terrace with a little kitchen corner so you can rustle up lunch in the shade. Summer lingers longer in the south of France, and with a pool that can be heated to 27C, Villa des Chênes makes very appealing base for an early or later season holiday. Saint Saturnin will serve you well for daily supplies, with a small supermarket, Tuesday market and various speciality food stores, plus plenty of artsy shops and restaurants for an authentic flavour of this unmissable region.

Please note: there are drops beyond the perimeter wall of the pool terrace, and extra vigilance is necessary, especially with young children

The local area

The villa sits within the Luberon Natural Park, a vast protected area covering some 185,000 hectares and over 70 different municipalities. The park exists to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the region, ensuring gloriously unspoilt landscapes and uniquely preserved villages and towns. Saint Saturnin itself is well worth half a day or more of exploration, known for its elaborately carved doorways, cherry harvest and castle ruin, whilst nearby Apt (10km) hosts a bustling Saturday market. The area has an impressively high concentration of ‘France’s most beautiful villages’, and you’ll find famous names such as Roussillon, Gordes, Ménèrbes, Lourmarin and Venasque all within a 10 to 30km radius, most packed with tempting restaurants. It’s perfect touring country, either by car or by e-bike (hills!), and if you’re here between mid-June and early August you’ll be surrounded by the purple haze of lavender fields in full bloom. Walkers and cyclists will find endless trails to explore, from simple marked paths around Saint Saturnin to the iconic challenge of the Mont Ventoux.

We have had a lovely week in this well-appointed and excellently located house.

The Nolans, September 2023

Fantastic two weeks in this beautiful spot. Fantastic villa with lovely pool and garden – so quiet and private. We loved all the hilltop towns, but we think Rousillon was our favourite – stunning. We loved being close enough to walk to the village for dinner yet still felt our house was away from everything with lovely views.

The Hobbs, August 2023

Had the most glorious two weeks in this wonderful villa. We really appreciated the privacy, quiet and amazing views. Easy 15-minute stroll into St Saturnine for dinner most evenings. Also got takeaway pizzas and brought them back to the villa! Another fabulous villa holiday with Simpson Travel. We hope to return to this beautiful part of France.

The Bertram family, August 2023

A gem of a villa, on the edge of a beautiful hilltop town meaning walking to the village for croissants in the morning or dinner in evening made it special. The villa allows for privacy and quiet, we loved the space and the coolness the house brought in the hot weather. The pool is lovely and well kept. Thank you Simpson, another great holiday.

Mrs Kathryn Hobbs, August 2023

We had a wonderful stay at gorgeous Villa des Chenes. The location of the property was perfect, peaceful, private and with wonderful views from the upstairs bedrooms. The 15 minute walk into St Saturnine was much easier than previous holiday villas have stayed in, mainly flat and pleasant views. St Saturnine had everything we wanted, a bakery, small supermarket, and some lovely restaurants, our particular favourites being Le Saint- Hubert, and L'Estrade with delicious food and friendly staff. We also arranged through Simpson Travel a 3 course dinner cooked and delivered to our villa by the lovely Cathy, which was such a treat. The villa itself had everything we could have wanted, the rooms all very spacious with ensuite bathrooms, a large and well equipped kitchen and plenty of space to dine and relax outside. I was initially slightly hesitant to book a newly acquired Simpson villa with no reviews, but I certainly did not need to be. It was wonderful in all respects, and we would definitely like to return.

Isobel Berriman, August 2023

Beautiful modern and clean villa with immensely spacious bedrooms and living area, very well equipped and lovely pool and surroundings. All set in wonderful picturesque surroundings in this gorgeous area.

Joanna Fulton, July 2023

Stunning property, beautiful garden, wonderful pool. Bedrooms were huge, bathrooms beautiful and the pool and garden so gorgeous it was hard to move from them. Lovely location just a short walk to Saint Saturnin with its boulangeries and cafés. We had morning coffee at St Hubert every morning. It was mid-30s for our first few days, so too hot to do much, but the days just pass by quietly. Heavenly! Don’t think the holiday could have been better. Location is amazing.

The Warrens, July 2023

This was our first holiday in Provence. Villa des Chenes is situated a few minutes drive outside the village and although it was possible to walk in, it was too hot so we decided to use the car. There are a number of parking options, however be prepared to drive around a little to find a space. The villa itself is well laid out, the beds were comfortable and all en-suite. I can recommend using the Concierge service for a supermarket shop before arrival. I sent Sarah my list a week before and it was all put away when we arrived! No unpacking the car then spending an hour of precious holiday time in a busy supermarket! Seriously, why have I never done this before? Sarah was extremely helpful with pre departure recommendations for restaurants, wine tastings and local activities, even booking a taxi for a special night out to Gordes.

Jane White, July 2023

Gorgeous villa with an amazing pool. Loved that we were just a short walk from the village whilst not being actually in the village. Went to the boulangerie every morning, which was a morning walk with amazing views. The market on Tuesday is definitely worth going whether it’s to buy food or clothes. Amazing time spent here and would definitely recommend it.

The Fultons, July 2023

Lovely villa – home from home! The village is short walk – go early for the bread. Must go to Gordes! Sarah and Camille looked after us so well. We will be back. Thank you!

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.

The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.

A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.

This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
