  • Historic village House
  • Short walk to restaurant and shops
  • Master bedroom with beautiful views
  • Stylish Provençale interiors

This historic village house has been extensively renovated to provide stylish accommodation in the heart of Cabrières d’Avignon. Unlike its much busier hill-top neighbours, Cabrières has a laid-back, authentic appeal, ideal for those who like to see the sights and then retreat somewhere altogether more peaceful for the evening.

The renovation here has been comprehensive yet restrained, allowing the original character of the building to shine through, and making ingenious use of the existing structure to fit in a small swimming pool and a covered outdoor dining space. A modern air-con/heating system makes this a house for all seasons, and you could easily contemplate dining outside in the shelter of the sun-warmed terrace in spring or well into the Provençal autumn.

Maison de Cabrières comfortably accommodates a family of up to five, however the romantic master bedroom elevates it to a honeymoon possibility too. The master bedroom is vast and occupies the whole top floor of the house, looking out over a classic Provençal panorama of rooftops, the Luberon valley and the peaks of the Alpilles in the distance. With what feels like half of Provence visible from your bedroom, and simple shops and a restaurant just a short walk from your front door, this is a delightful base for anyone looking for comfort and convenience in one of the quieter corners of the Luberon.

The local area

Cabrières d’Avignon hosts a small restaurant, a bakery and a grocery, all within walking distance of the house. You’ll also be able to visit two small but interesting sights virtually on the doorstep: the open-air museum known as the Village des Bories, and the excellent Musée de la Lavande at Coustellet (3km), a handy short intro to the history of lavender-growing in the area.

Once you start exploring further afield, the choice becomes almost overwhelming, from the golden glory of Gordes (7km) to the walled perfection of medieval Ménerbes (10km). Fine food and wine are an integral part of the local experience, whether you take a tasting at one of the many vineyards or just pack up a picnic from the market and remind yourself just how good food with virtually zero food miles tastes. For a day out, we recommend bustling L’Isle sur la Sorgue, full of restaurants and interesting shops, or a longer trip to Orange (60km) or Avignon (35km), the ancient Roman strongholds of the region.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
