The setting is stunning, the views are vast and the décor is a polished mix of traditional and contemporary, perfectly encapsulating the very best of the local area. You’ll find colourful Turkish kilims adorning sleek marble floors, an ancient, hand-dug well (capped for safety) next to the pristine infinity pool and floor-to-ceiling glass looking out over incredible views to Patara beach and as far as Rhodes on a clear day.
A week or two at Villa Leylam promises privacy and seclusion, ideal for a couple or for a family looking for somewhere authentic but with plenty on their doorstep including restaurants and the dunes and ruins of Patara beach. Sunset over Patara beach is ridiculously romantic, and it feels like a real privilege to be able to watch this nightly golden spectacle right here on your own gorgeous terrace. There’s a choice of village restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away, while the centre of Üzümlü takes about the same time in the car. Both Kalkan – with its numerous restaurants, shops and beach clubs – and Patara are an easy 15-minute drive, offering you all the benefits of the stunning Turquoise Coast in a charming countryside setting.

A pretty mountain village just above Kalkan Bay, Islamlar is a place of bucolic tranquillity and rustic architecture set against the dramatic backdrop of the Taurus Mountains. In the heart of Islamlar you will still find a truly traditional way of life, unchanged throughout the centuries: an old tea house, a bakery where flour is still ground by millstones and shepherds herding their sheep among the olive trees.
Nearby is Islamlar’s even sleepier neighbour, Üzümlü. This traditional village is wonderfully unspoilt – a place where you can fully immerse yourself in the every-day comings and goings of rural Turkey.
But should you wish to experience a more cosmopolitan expression of Turkish hospitality, Kalkan with its beach clubs, vibrant waterfront bars and rooftop restaurants, is just a short drive away, giving you the best of all worlds.
