When you hear that a British Naval officer was posted to Greece during the Second World War and fell in love with a celebrated Athenian ballet dancer, it sounds like the opening to a movie. Yet it was the beginning of a romance with such heart that you can feel it woven into the very fabric of their sons’ two villas – built on Meganissi to honour their Greek heritage. Michael and John Shepherd were raised in England but spent blissful family holidays in Greece with their mother’s family and grew up fluent in the language and well-versed in its rich cultures and traditions. Named after their mother and grandmother respectively, Villas Mimi and Xeni represent a poignant and beautiful tribute to their treasured childhood memories. With mesmerising views across the Ionian to the unspoilt islands of Kalamos and Kastos, suspended in the infinite blue of sea and sky, the villas offer a sense of peace and harmony matched only by the natural serenity of their exquisite island home.
Villa Mimi belongs to Michael, an international hotelier with an illustrious five-star career, whose impeccable eye for detail is evident throughout this truly exceptional villa. His daughter, a renowned interior designer, has combined classic contemporary décor, sumptuous fabrics and charming traditional touches to create a wonderfully elegant home, with relaxed living and effortless entertaining in mind. From the hand-crafted kitchen to the sophisticated bedroom suites with their bespoke wardrobes and deliciously stylish bathrooms, the finest natural materials have been used throughout to create a haven of quiet sophistication and unashamed luxury.
Outside on the terrace, the infinity pool appears to melt into the dazzling blue yonder and an expansive pergola, comfortably furnished and with its own well-equipped summer kitchen, ensures outdoor living is a joy both day and night. The landscaped gardens are an oasis of fragrant Mediterranean planting offering a choice of seating areas to lie back and drink in the heavenly views, with not another house between you and the boundless sea beyond. And when you hear the Ionian calling, there are steps down to the sea for swimming off the rocks.
Though only a 10-minute drive from the charming harbour in Vathy, with its pretty shops and waterside tavernas, Villa Mimi is a magical and secluded island paradise, born out of a legacy of wartime love and romance. Villa Mimi, closest to the sea, and Villa Xeni are a comfortable distance apart and the enjoyment of this spectacular location is not compromised by their proximity to one another. This week has been truly exceptional. Villa Mimi is beyond compare and we feel privileged to have enjoyed everything it has to offer. In truth, we have barely strayed and I was so sad to be leaving. Thank you, Lydia and Ben and Simpson Travel for a magical holiday.
We enjoyed a fabulous week to relax and spend quality time with family. We made great use of the outdoor kitchen with barbecues. Maria, our representative, is passionate and dedicated and nothing is too much trouble. We felt like her only clients – she is super responsive and helpful beyond belief. Seven days is definitely not long enough – please consider 10-night stays. The garden chair under the huge parasol is super peaceful. A lovely villa with beautiful views of the majestic sailboats – a beautiful place to spend time. Skip the craziness of everyday living and just enjoy the scenery and wildlife. We loved it.
What a wonderful, relaxed and magical stay – awakened by the beautiful sunrises, joyed by the views, stunned by the evening stars and had our taste buds greeted by the delicious local tomatoes, feta, and fresh fish delivered by Spiros. We made so many wonderful memories and a piece of our hearts will remain in Meganissi. And, to top it all off, the hospitality, warmth, help and love of Lydia and Spiros – who went out of their way for us every day. We are so grateful to them for making our stay extra special. Our holiday for 8 of us at Villa Mimi was absolutely excellent! Maria our concierge on Meganisi was outstanding-always available and always helpful. Villa Mimi was the best villa we have ever stayed at -anywhere-beautiful and the view is outstanding. We also had Spiros and Lydia who look after guests at Villa Mimi. They were beyond kind and helpful. One night Spiros bought us fish he had caught for our BBQ and Lydia bought homemade marmalade. It was the icing on a wonderful holiday.
We have found a little piece of paradise at Villa Mimi, just the most perfect spot with the most incredible outlook. As a result of the beauty and tranquillity of the Villa and its glorious garden, we have all totally relaxed and not wished to venture very far. Vathy has been our place of choice for eating out and has a number of fabulous restaurants where we always enjoyed great food and service. But barbecues in the outside kitchen have been just as special. Lydia and Spiros are very special and have gone above and beyond to look after us, as has Maria from Simpson. Thank you for a truly wonderful holiday.

Our Simpson holiday in Villa Mimi was 100% fantastic. Amazing villa, wonderful and blissful island and we long to return. Rania our rep was excellent and Lydia was a great cleaner.
The villa is beautiful and exceptional in its amenities. Everything has been thought of, it is all wonderfully appointed. We particularly enjoyed using the outdoor kitchen as we all love to cook and eat! The lush gardens stocked with herbs for cooking and scented with lavender were beautiful and the water access was perfect.
A week in Meganissi was exactly what we needed. The villa was heavenly, it provided everything and more for a very relaxing break. Travel and transfers ran smoothly and Rania was very welcoming, assisting with the additional Covid tests, as well as the usual excursions. Will definitely travel with Simpson again!
Quite simply THE best villa on the island! We have had a fabulous week, and this spectacular view and villa has provided the perfect setting to escape and recharge. We have felt very welcomed by locals and been very well looked after by the villa team. Rania has been particularly helpful booking Covid tests for home as well as excursions, etc. Highlights were the sunrise – worth setting an alarm for. Beautiful villa, paradise! Stress free location, very quiet with amazing views – we still haven’t tired of them after two weeks! Great boat trip around the island. After so much time spent apart due to Covid, it has been nice to spend so much together despite the faff of traffic lights, vaccination passes, tests and PLFs. It has been well worth it. Went to some lovely restaurants – Rania was very helpful in reserving tables for our meals out, booking our taxis and making recommendations when our first choice was full. Lydia and Spiros have been great, wonderful people, nice to talk to and looked after us and the villa really well. The villa is stunning, really well thought out with everything we need. Finished to a really high quality with stunning views taking into account the design of the internal features (e.g. view from the shower in the gust suite!).
We’ve just returned from a week on Meganissi, a holiday postponed from July 2020. Throughout the intervening months Simpson Travel has kept in touch with updates on the travel situation. When we could travel at last all the information for Covid requirements was easily accessible on the website. Rania, the local rep, was wonderful throughout our stay – transfers to and from the airport (including water taxi) ran smoothly, she sorted the car hire, did an extra shop for our arrival, answered all our questions, booked restaurants and boats. She even printed out our PLFs! A very personal service. The villa was fantastic with a sensational view. Our party absolutely loved it all. This was our first experience with Simpson Travel and it is undoubtedly a very professional and caring company.
Fabulous two weeks on Meganissi staying at Villa Xeni and Villa Mimi. Both beautiful villas with excellent outside and inside spaces. Direct access to the sea for morning swims. Rania, our concierge, was incredibly helpful with advice and restaurant bookings and made our holiday extremely easy in every way. We will be back!
We have been so lucky to stay in the wonderful Villa Mimi! Our grateful thanks to our hosts in opening the villa especially for our visit – we are truly thankful and we will never forget the most spectacular views we have ever encountered on our travels and holidays to Greece. The villa is stunning and luxurious in every way and we have enjoyed the pool. Our boat trip around the island was a particular highlight, the caves and the lovely lunch at Spilia beach. We have enjoyed delicious food and our favourite has been Tilevoes where we ate amazing seafood many times. Meganissi was very quiet when we arrived but we are so pleased that visitors are returning to experience the beauty of the island and the welcome of the people here. This is a fantastic place! It’s on a small island no-one has heard of and perfect – tranquil, traditional, unhurried and amazingly friendly people, but also has everything you need for a downtime break. Plenty of places to eat – lovely food, beautiful harbours and beaches. Hire a boat, see unspoilt water and rocky inlets, dive into the turquoise sea – wow! And Villa Mimi is a superstar place. Every luxury – what a view, especially over the infinity pool looking out. Access to the sea for swimming off the rocks. The fit out is nothing but the best everywhere and so tasteful. We are definitely buying one of the wireless Marshall Amps so thoughtfully provided throughout the place! Outside eating? Check! Massive dining space, barbecue, outdoor worktops and units with separate hob, fridge, dishwasher and cutlery. Very impressive. Lots of places and room to lounge about! We loved it!
It was a huge privilege to be the first guests at Villa Mimi, an exquisite villa on the enchanting island of Meganissi. The villa was designed with all the 21st-century comforts you could possibly want, whilst at the same time reflecting the stunning wild landscape of its cliff-side location. So relaxing to lie in the sun or shade of its beautiful gardens looking out across the luxury pool to the bay beyond, waiting for a glimpse of dolphins. Unforgettable experiences include jumping straight into the crystal clear sea from the property edge for wild, free swimming. Hiring a motor boat was another highlight, giving us the opportunity to explore the rocky inlets, deserted coves and caves all around the island, jumping straight from the boat into the turquoise sea to snorkel and swim. Small quiet beaches with facilities are also easy to reach from the villa. The tranquil villages of Spartochori or Katomeri are perfect to potter around, with a traditional unhurried lifestyle and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of the locals, always slipping in something extra to a bag of shopping. It is easy to buy fresh meat, fresh fish caught on the day and a wealth of fruit and vegetables. Villa Mimi is excellently equipped with both indoor and outdoor kitchens and a barbecue. However, if you want a break from cooking, numerous superb restaurants are just ten minutes away in the delightful port of Vathy. We found travelling round the mostly deserted roads of the island was fun on mopeds which can be hired in Vathy or Spartochori. Throughout our stay the Simpson staff provided excellent support and an information service, from an efficient and friendly service on arriving at the airport to a warm welcome by the local representative on the island. The level of service, care and quality of the entire holiday was extraordinary and we cannot wait to return.

Local life potters along as it’s done for centuries and there are no bustling resorts on Meganissi, just three flower-filled villages – and yet you’ll still see luxury yachts moored in the harbours.
