In a remarkable seafront setting, intimate Mochlos Blue is a magical addition to the Simpson Hotel Collection. At the gateway to the east, it offers countless opportunities for discovering a different side of this great island; a hidden Crete that’s often overlooked and every bit as compelling as the tourist trails further west. For a glimpse of this extraordinary landscape, please view our Hidden Crete video

Recently refurbished to our exacting standards, Mochlos Blue ticks all the boxes – location, style and comfort alongside some beautifully individual touches that set it apart. The final ingredient is service, and a stay at Mochlos Blue comes with the promise of a warm and hospitable welcome from the owner George and his parents who have been hosting guests here for over 20 years. Their commitment to offering the thoughtful care and attention to detail that our reputation is built upon comes naturally – so much so that we didn't need to discuss the importance of a ‘Simpson Hotel’ breakfast – they were already serving one. Add to this our own local concierge in Mochlos and we know we have a winning formula.

Just six rooms enjoy all this fabulous spot has to offer; each simply but elegantly furnished, with supremely comfy double bed (three of which can be converted to a twin on request) and opening onto a balcony or terrace with uninterrupted sea views. Breakfast is served down on the pool terrace where the sound of the sea lapping against the shore is both soothing and uplifting in equal measure. It’s a hop and a skip to the sunbeds if a day of quiet repose is just what the doctor ordered and though there is no direct access to the sea from here, it’s only a short walk into Mochlos where the lovely little beach nestles beneath the charming array of cafés and tavernas.

Ideal for couples, Mochlos Blue is a boutique hotel which celebrates its place on the road less travelled. But teenagers also enjoy the freedom of being able to walk into Mochlos and families with children are very welcome in July and August. We may also, on occasion, offer the hotel as a whole for a large group of friends or an extended family gathering.

And enchanting though it is, Mochlos is not the only attraction. There are a number of other pretty villages in the surrounding area including Kavousi in the next bay along, particularly beautiful with a lovely beach, and Monasteraki, a hidden gem en route to Ierapetra with a delightful taverna at the mouth of the Ha Gorge.

But there’s no obligation to do more than relax and enjoy the moment. A ten-minute stroll from the hotel leads to the lovely waterfront in Mochlos and though it’s a sleepy place in essence, the cuisine is top notch and there’s a wonderfully creative eccentricity at its heart, that keeps it feeling vibrant and draws a discerning crowd back again and again.

A wonderful, relaxing few days at Mochlos Blue, ending a second holiday in Mochlos. I am very impressed by the hotel, very generous breakfasts, most comfortable bed, and another view to savour. Simpson’s Nikos has gone the extra mile, as he does, and dealt with anything and everything. I shall be sad to leave and return to colder temperatures, but hope to be back again one day. Thank you Nikos and everyone here, and Simpson Travel for organising it all.

Felicity, October 2023

Very happy, great service from all Simpson staff.

Mr Mark Beese, October 2023

We loved this place from the moment we drove in. It just said: “Welcome!” we can see and feel it is a home and a place of love – thank you for your kindness and hospitality. The rooms and attention to detail are wonderful. The breakfasts are mighty and delicious. Mochlos and Mochlos Blue are very special.

Mark and Linda – Eros, October 2023

We have had a great week here and have found the staff very friendly and helpful. We liked it so much we are booking a couple of weeks next May.

Mark and Jackie, October 2023

Thank you Nikos for your sound advice of where to go and where to eat, and especially for your wife’s apple pie! What a relaxing break.

Sue and Steve, October 2023

This was our first experience travelling with Simpson's Travel and we were extremely impressed with the service we received from start to finish... will not hesitate to recommend to friends and family!

Christopher Lewis, September 2023

Mochlos village and choice of tavernas around the bay are delightful, well worth the walk for dinner in the evening. Nikos and Hara at Mochlos Blue are really lovely and welcoming and we really enjoyed the 'smallness' (only 6 rooms) which was quite unique and we made some great new friends. Mrs Poppy makes divine cakes for breakfast! The freshly squeezed orange juice was great too. Very relaxing and peaceful - and thanks to Nikos for the mountain bike morning!

Mrs Eileen Stringer, September 2023

Mochlos Blue is a most delightful place to stay. Beautiful views, comfortable rooms and it all makes for a very relaxing holiday. The village of Mochlos has about 6 tavernas, all of which serve excellent food at reasonable prices. Hara prepared delicious breakfasts for us and the Simpson rep. Nikos was most helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody seeking a wonderful holiday.

Mrs Vivian Downing, September 2023

Very peaceful hotel with very clean pool & sun patio. Beautiful views over Mochlos village & island. Easy 10 minute walk to village seafront with choice of quality taverna food. Worth coming for the local fish available every day. Room service very good, lovely bedding changed twice a week. Showers always have plenty of hot water & thick soft towels. The beach towels were good too.

Mrs Julia Mclean, September 2023

We have enjoyed many Simpson holidays in previous years and our stay at Mochlos Blue is among the very best. Mochlos itself is a stunningly beautiful setting and within a few minutes walk of the hotel there is a wide choice of good tavernas. The pool area at the hotel was well-used by our family, (“almost too good to leave”) and travel to beaches in the area is relatively easy. Breakfasts served overlooking the pool and the sea were a highlight and the hotel staff could not have been more helpful.

Mr James Rees, August 2023

Brilliant holiday…unfortunately we travelled on the Tuesday, 29th August (the day of the air traffic control glitch) flights cancelled etc….but we spoke and dealt with a lovely man called Shay and after a very fraught few hours and two trips to the airport we did manage to get to Mochlos Blue a good few hours later. I have to admit Simpson pulled out all the stops and we had a fabulous holiday. Nicos and Hara are lovely people and made us feel special…thank you.

Mrs Lynn France, August 2023

Mochlos Blue makes the perfect hotel destination for a family holiday. We have spent a wonderful week here with our daughter, her husband, our son and his fiancée – all in their early 30s. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool and recommend Bar Raki for watching a beautiful sunset before supper. We had good food in all the tavernas but Ta Kochilia was probably our favourite. The ‘youngsters’ walked the Richtis Gorge, which they enjoyed – good footwear required! A day trip to Spinalonga, taking the boat from Elounda was also a great day trip if too much relaxation around the pool is a problem!

Jane & Clive – Atlas, July 2023

We had two wonderful weeks with wonderful weather. Spent every day by the pool, often all to ourselves. Tried a trip to Istron to find a beach – way too busy so turned round and came back to Mochlos Blue! Everyone at the hotel is very friendly. We have spent the last 14+ years travelling with Simpson – they never disappoint. Could well be back at Mochlos next year. A spot I hope doesn’t get spoilt.

Debbie & Martin – Fortuna, July 2023

What a wonderful week we have spent here recharging our batteries. Mochlos Blue fits perfectly with the Simpson ethos – it is a beautiful little hotel in an ideal location, just a 10-minute stroll into the sleepy little town. We tried four of the six tavernas – all delicious food and warm, welcoming staff. Hara was a delight at breakfast and Nikos helpful. All in all a fabulous week and we shall return.

Claire & Phil – Atlas, July 2023

A fantastic new addition to Simpson Travel. Everything about the hotel was just perfect and absolutely in keeping with what we have come to expect from Simpson Travel. The location is superb and just a 10 minute walk into the village, which had everything we needed and we didn’t have a need to venture further afield for dining options. The best accolade we can give is that we will very happily return.

Andrew Trist, July 2023

Very pleasant stay, lovely views from the bedroom terrace. Did not have a car so spent the week relaxing by the pool.

Erica and Stephen, June 2023

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in such an idyllic situation. We have been very well looked after by all the team including concierge Nikos, Hava for excellent breakfast and Giorgios and family for all that they do. Mochlos is a delightful and very pretty village with 5 or 6 tavernas, all very good. Lots of places nearby to explore and visit including the world's oldest olive tree - 3000 years old! However, Mochlos Blue with its lovely pool made it difficult to drag ourselves away.

Alison and John Parker, June 2023

A warm welcome, a family atmosphere, all creature comforts. Unbeatable views, fantastic breakfast, lovely pool. The Mochlos Blue team have looked after us so well. Efcharisto! Planning our next visit already!

Sue & Tom, May 2023

Our week here has never been less than a joy, despite the vagaries of the weather. Mochlos itself is such a delight and an absolute fit for the Simpson ethos of the 'road less travelled'... special thanks to Nikos and his advice on all local matters which was so much appreciated. Also to Hara for her lovely breakfasts and company to start each day with  - she's been an absolute delight. Thanks too to Mrs Poppy for her cakes, preserves etc, Aphrodite for tending our rooms and Pavlos for sorting the odd teething problem - all such lovely people.

Michael and Jean, May 2023

For this holiday, the road less travelled has brought us to eastern Crete to the Mochlos Blue hotel, conveniently located just a short stroll from Mochlos itself. One particular aspect that we really enjoyed is the large pool and its terrace, which for a hotel that accommodates but 12 guests is generously sized and well equipped. As ever, people always make the difference and concierge Nicos and the lovely Hara have worked hard to ensure that we have enjoyed ourselves. Although Mochlos is a stand alone village, it acts as a very convenient base to explore both east and west. There is a pleasant, slightly bohemian vibe to the village, with a good choice of tavernas offering very enjoyable food. Thank you again Simpsons.

John and Jane Reynolds, May 2023

Mochlos Blue is a lovely and relaxing boutique hotel with comfortable rooms, great sea views and a good sized pool and terrace area. The excellent tavernas of Mochlos harbour are only a short walk away and we greatly appreciated the service and hospitality shown by the owners and staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Phil Monaghan, May 2023

This is a great place to relax. The staff are charming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a great way to start the day and an opportunity to share idea on what to do with the other guests. All the food is good in the village. The mountains in the surrounding area are spectacular and make for stimulating drawing! Thank you to all the team at Mochlos Blue and as ever Simpsons!

Chris and Sue, May 2023

A memorable stay at this stunning hotel. Room was beautifully appointed, very comfy bed and tasteful decor. Amazing breakfasts from Poppy with homemade jams and local produce. Nikos our rep was most helpful in suggesting places to visit, Toplou Monastery, museum and winery a must. All in all, a most enjoyable stay. A huge thanks to Poppy, Pavlos, Georgos and especially Nikos. Another wonderful Simpson holiday.

Agios Nikolaos & The Gulf of Mirabello is one of the most sought after enclaves of Crete. Here you'll find Elounda, a pretty waterfront town hosting some of the island's most exclusive hotels and restaurants and regular ferries across to the former leper colony Spinalonga, a disconcertingly beautiful island with a fascinating history made famous by Victoria Hislop's novel The Island. A little further east, fashionable Agios Nikolaos is a lively town with an abundance of charm and a fabulous selection of restaurants and shops around the harbour.

If you're after a more tranquil and traditional take on Cretan life, the enchanting village of Mochlos lies tucked away at the most easterly edge of The Gulf of Mirabello. Our portfolio here celebrates the road less travelled, transporting guests from the mainstream to a blissfully undeveloped part of Crete that's often overlooked. Mochlos holds a unique identity along this illustrious coastline; a timeless waterfront idyll with a charming collection of cafés and tavernas harbouring the soul food of a simpler life. Whether you choose our Simpson Hotel or one of our luxurious villas, a stay here offers the best of all worlds - combining authentic charm, warm hospitality and easy access to many of the island's highlights, including the breathtaking gorges and caves of eastern Crete and the mountain communities of the beautiful Lasithi Plateau.

Whether you're seeking an expansive beachfront home close to all the action, or a tucked away base by the sea, you'll find something to suit in Agios Nikolaos & The Gulf of Mirabello. View our handpicked collection of villas today or take a look at our delightful Simpson Hotel in Mochlos.
