One of the most appealing features of the ocean-loving Hossegor region is its beach-chic architecture and family-friendly La Manga is a fine example: a large, well-equipped summer home in a quiet, residential part of Seignosse-Ocean, with a beautiful beach a short drive or 20-minute walk away.

The villa is built over three levels and the heart of the home is the spacious living area on the middle level, where you can gather around the dining table or relax in one of the seating areas at either end of the room. There’s a separate kitchen, which opens out onto the decked east-facing balcony, so you can enjoy sunshine with your morning croissants and the views across Seignosse golf course, ranked among the world’s top ten. The pool and surrounding terrace are perfect for soaking up the sunshine and there’s also a barbecue and plenty of room to relax on the rear balcony for sociable evenings in.

The local area

A network of cycle trails surrounds La Manga and exploring on two wheels is one of the most idyllic ways to get your bearings, with pine forests to explore and beaches to discover, both wild and organised. The most celebrated for surfing (or sunbathing and watching the surfers) are Les Estagnots, Bourdaines and Le Penon, each just a five-minute bike ride away.

The Seignosse golf course with its welcoming clubhouse is only a ten-minute walk, where there’s also an excellent, family-friendly brasserie. About five minutes away by road, you have tennis courts, a waterpark, the restaurants of Seignosse le Penon, which has its own low-key nightlife, and laid-back, upmarket Hossegor, a hub for the international surfing community. There you’ll find chic boutiques, bustling markets and a lovely lake for swimming and paddle-boarding if you don’t fancy the waves. It has an easy charm that lends itself perfectly to long leisurely brunches or takeaway pizza on the beach at sunset. However, this being France, you’re never short of an excellent meal, particularly in neighbouring Capbreton – a more authentic French experience with some of the area’s best seafood in the marina restaurants, as well as an excellent morning fish market.

Alternatively, nature lovers can find refuge in the peaceful Marais d’Orx, a wetland reserve with high-sided wooden walkways, perfectly safe for little ones, who can also try a spot of birdwatching from the covered hides.

Days out

Bayonne, the ‘chocolate capital ‘of France and host to its largest festival, is around half an hour’s drive away, whilst Biarritz is just a little further on. Here, Belle Époque glamour sits alongside a vibrant shopping, eating and cultural scene, all the more appealing for its dramatic coastal location. The Basque villages in all their pristine uniformity offer an insight into the area’s rich cultural heritage, or visit St-Jean-de-Luz, pure beach heaven for families with a beautiful historic town behind. You can even hop across the border into Spain for some quality time in the atmospheric coastal town of Hondarrabia. Catch the ferry from Hendaye and enjoy a packed calendar of festivals and some excellent tapas restaurants.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Once entirely marshland, this region is now a natural playground of sand dunes and beaches, pine forests and picturesque lakes, where walking and cycling are the most pleasurable ways of getting around. An idyllic meeting of France and California with truly spectacular waves and wide-ranging cuisine, upmarket Hossegor thrives on a surfing culture of stylish, laid-back living.
