There’s more than a touch of the avant-garde to Villa Abatilles, a striking, four-bedroom home in the fashionable Les Abatilles district of Arcachon. Big and bold, this architect-designed house makes an emphatic style statement both inside and out, from the vast ‘cube’ of the master bedroom suite to the polished concrete floors and enormous picture windows. With dining space for up to 12 on the terrace, and a 14-metre heated swimming pool, this is an impressive venue to mark a milestone birthday or get the whole family together for a special celebration.

Villa Abatilles is supremely stylish but still very liveable for younger families, with enclosed, toddler-friendly gardens offering both privacy and peace of mind. For older children, there’s a lively summer buzz and activities on offer in Arcachon, and if you bring or hire bikes, they can get around easily under their own steam. For young and old alike, there are several beaches within walking distance, the favourite being Péreire, with its pretty tree-lined promenade and lovely views across the water to Cap Ferret. Nestled between Péreire and Le Moulleau, another very desirable quartier of greater Arcachon, Villa Abatilles is ideally placed for exploring the many highlights of this delightful region.

The local area

The villa sits in a peaceful residential area dotted with smart bistros and boutiques, within easy reach of the local sandy beach and amenities. Swap the car for pedal power and cycle along the water's edge into Arcachon (two and a half kilometres), or stay very local and enjoy dinner in Le Moulleau (two kilometres). You can also take bikes along to the Dune du Pilat, just make sure you reserve enough energy in your legs to cycle back after the climb to the top! For an alternative to the seaside, the nearby lake of Cazaux Sanguinet is a beautiful spot for swimming, watersports or a day of simple relaxation amongst the fragrant pine trees that surround it.

Days out

In Arcachon itself you can take a wander through the eclectic architectural jumble of the Ville d’Hiver, then pause in the shade of the Parc Mauresque while you watch a game of boules and enjoy the view. Continue your exploration with a walk down to the Belvédère viewing platform, with 360-degree views back over the town. There are lots of lovely spots to eat and drink in town, but for a real Arcachon experience, visit one of the many oyster farms at Gujan-Mestras or one of the villages on the Presqu'Île.

Take the ferry from Le Moulleau over to stylish Cap Ferret and then catch the Petit Train to l’Horizon beach, one of the most wildly beautiful on this stretch of coastline, with lifeguard presence in the peak summer months. Even if you’re not keen to get into the water, the train trip itself is well worth it for the wonderful peninsula views and magnificent Atlantic rollers. The foot ferries run quite late in the evening, so you could have dinner in Cap Ferret before the short boat trip back.

Arcachon bay supports a huge variety of birdlife, with reserves at the Parc Ornotholigique du Teich and Île aux Oiseaux, accessible by ferry from Arcachon, and the perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of this unique region.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
