The villa sits in large, gated grounds, enclosed by stone walls and hedges, with plenty of green space for kids to play. It’s excellent entertaining space for the adults too, with a wonderful covered outdoor kitchen, complete with barbecue, pizza oven and that all-important big dining table for breakfasts, nightcaps and everything in between. In fact, the pool area is so well designed with built-in sofas as well as the usual loungers and parasols, you could happily spend all day every day outside. And for those who can’t bear to miss a workout even on holiday, there’s an air-conditioned basement gym room where you can work off the excesses of the legendary local cuisine.
For eating out or just wandering about, Ostuni is unmissable, its white-washed buildings rising up out of an otherwise flat landscape, with a labyrinthine old centre that begs to be explored. Just beyond Ostuni is the Adriatic coast, with a scattering of upmarket beach resorts and Marina di Ostuni when you fancy a few hours at the seaside. Monopoli and Polignano a Mare are easily accessible for day trips.
