Quinta do Lago
A stunning landscaped sanctuary for sport and wellness

When you think resort you might think high rises and over-development, but local restrictions mean that buildings can occupy no more than 9% of Quinta do Lago’s vast 2,000 acre grounds, making this resort as beautiful as it is inviting and practical for a luxury holiday with family and friends. The villas and hotels are clustered into small estates separated by parkland, golf courses and lakes, creating feeling of intimacy and privacy despite the scale of the venture. Umbrella pines give structure, Mediterranean planting adds colour and the border with the Ria Formosa Natural Park enhances the luxurious sense of space.
Whats on offer?

The Campus
This is the heart of Quinta do Lago’s healthy lifestyle vibe, aimed at those who take their sport seriously, even on holiday. The sports complex is state-of-the-art, with pro-level coaching and academy courses available for kids and adults. Facilities are world class, including a gym, multiple tennis and padel courts, football pitch, swim centre with wellness facilities, physiotherapy suite and bike centre for rentals and guided rides. And after your workout, there are cafes and restaurants to refuel, ready for the next challenge.

Beach and restaurants
Quinta do Lago leads the way on the Algarve for destination dining; the experience is luxurious and booking is highly recommended. Access to the beach reflects the way the resort is ensconced in nature as you wander over a wooden footbridge past tidal lagoons teeming with birdlife on your way to the pristine sand.
Vale do Lobo
The beachfront playground

Founded in 1962 and arguably years ahead of its time, Vale do Lobo is much more compact than neighbouring Quinta do Lago, making it a little easier to get around without always having to drive. The resort is orientated firmly towards the beach. Clusters of villas and a selection of upmarket hotels occupy prime plots near Vale do Lobo’s magnificent 2km-long beach, which is framed by the sunset-gold cliffs so iconic of the Algarve. It’s smart but still family-friendly, with plenty of room for all ages and stages to enjoy that huge sandy beach, plus a range of clubs and activities.
Whats on offer?

The Praça
This lively beachfront square groups together over a dozen restaurants, ice cream parlours, bars and a large, ocean-view pool complex with day beds, Jacuzzis and massage facilities. Evening entertainment: During the peak summer months and school holidays, The Praça transforms into an outdoor arena for family entertainment. Running daily from 18:30 to 23:00, children’s programs feature bouncy castles, face painting, creative workshops, and a vintage carousel. The square is pedestrianised, making it feel even more child-friendly, relaxed and secure. Tennis and golf: Vale do Lobo’s tennis complex is one of the largest in Portugal, with 8 hard courts, 4 clay courts, 8 padel court plus a heated pool and a gym. There’s a wide range of courses and coaching on offer if you want to up your game, plus a popular sports bar if you’re keeping things strictly social. Two coastal courses put Vale do Lobo firmly into play as a leading golf resort, with the 16th hole on the Royal course being one of the most photographed in Europe.
Vilamoura:
Golf, beaches and Portugal’s biggest marina

In 1966, a Portuguese banker had the bold vision to transform a farm estate into a state-of-the-art resort, with a luxury marina as its centrepiece. Today Vilamoura covers some 2,000 hectares, which is about the same size as the Greek island of Meganissi. It’s easiest to think of it in terms of three distinct areas. First is the marina, with its 5-star hotels, smart apartments and endless dining and shopping options that lend a lively atmosphere day and night. Next are the golf estates: mini resorts within the resort, with private villas, family hotels and of course, golf. Finally there’s Falésia beach at the western extremity of Vilamoura, characterised by exclusive wellness resorts and dining spots.
Whats on offer?

The Marina
With space for over 800 boats, there’s always something going on at the marina. If you’re not not lucky enough to own a super yacht you can charter one by the day, take a dolphin-spotting safari or simply stroll along the boardwalk and take in the smart, cosmopolitan atmosphere of its many bars, boutiques and restaurants.

Sports
Perfect for groups and active families, Vilamoura offers a dazzling array of facilities. It features five championship golf courses (including the famous Victoria Course), an international equestrian centre, a family-friendly casino, and a massive tennis academy.

Beaches
The eponymous Praia de Vilamoura (also called Praia da Marina) is adjacent to the marina, with wide golden sand, calm shallow waters, boardwalks and beach clubs. To the west is Praia da Rocha Baixinha, which is backed mainly by dunes with a wooden boardwalk for easy access. It’s very well serviced for watersports plus sunbeds for hire, good restaurants and a large car park.
Conclusion...
All the Golden Triangle resorts offer a wide range of top quality services, access to superb beaches and excellent restaurants. For a sophisticated vibe that feels more in tune with nature, choose Quinta do Lago; for fabulous facilities with a family orientation, pick Vale do Lobo and for sheer scale, style and a dash of sass, Vilamoura is your go-to.
