Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - quite literally if you are lucky enough to be staying at Nitsa’s House. This charming single-storey villa enjoys such breathtaking views across the Ionian to Meganissi and the mountains of northern Greece, that it’s easy to imagine why Odysseus might have undertaken an epic ten-year battle to return to these waters. Though Nitsa’s House, named after the daughter of the family who originally owned it, wasn’t around in ancient times, this magical spot has a timelessness that’s utterly captivating.
There’s an appealing simplicity about this unpretentious little house, just a few metres above the idyllic cove of Kouvoulia. The open plan living space and en-suite bedrooms (one double and one twin) all have doors opening out onto the terrace, ensuring everyone enjoys the same connection with the beautiful surroundings, and creating an easy flow for a relaxed and comfortable escape. Alfresco dining is a joy here but when you’re of a mind to let someone else do the catering, delightful Frikes is just a 10-minute stroll around the headland, boasting some excellent harbourside tavernas, coffee shops and bars. There’s also a well-stocked mini-market, bakery and a couple of gift shops here and for an equally appealing change of scene, the picturesque harbour in Kioni is just a 15-minute drive away.
But ultimately, it’s the sea that will call you away from Nitsa’s House. The gentle sound of the waves lapping against the shore beneath will prove irresistable time and again and a 3-minute stroll is all it takes to bathe in Ithaca’s mythical waters. For snorkelling it’s a dream - and if your day starts early, a dip at sunrise is unbeatable.

We had a lovely, relaxing two weeks at Nitsa's House. The sea view from the terrace was wonderful and it was a joy to watch the boats sail in and out of Frikes harbour. The short walk to the harbour and tavernas is just right and all the tavernas were good. We loved the little beach nearby too. Ithaca is a beautiful island.

Ithaca is a magical island. Up on the hills we could not help but feel transported into the epic poems and mythology of Ancient Greece.
We had a truly splendid time in Ithaca and at Nitsas House. The location was perfect. A short walk into Frikes town. A short walk from Frikes to Stavros town. A short walk to some beautiful beaches at Kourvoulia. A great view from the terrace of the villa. Spacious and accommodating. Judith was an excellent host. She responded with incredible promptness to any small request or question we had. She obviously knew the island very well. We would love to return in the not too distant future.
Nitsa's house is wonderful - restful with beautiful views on a beautiful unspoilt island. Having seen it from the road in June 2022, we were determined to come back and stay there. It fulfilled all our expectations, and more.
We spent two wonderful weeks at Nitsa House and relaxed thoroughly! The views from the house are second to none. Judith the local representative is absolutely amazing and her local knowledge, help and support were very much appreciated. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked to return next year!
Nitsa’s House is ideally situated in beautiful Frikes. We loved swimming at the local coves & strolling into Frikes for lunch or dinner at the friendly tavernas. We would love to return.

Would normally have travelled to Europe independently but booked a package to Ithaca with Simpson to minimise potential Covid-related disruption. Obviously the island was fantastic but we found the travel organisation from Judith and the rest of the team beyond expectation. Super slick private transfers, luggage carried and met and greeted at every stage made us feel like VIPs. All very easy and stress free.

I can only praise Simpson Travel for their handling of repeated postponements due to Covid restrictions. They managed everything extremely professionally and fairly. Flying from Manchester (Jet2) was really easy. Airport was much quieter than usual, thus parking and experience from check-in through to departure was simple and straightforward. We had all our paperwork sorted – PLF, vaccination records, etc. and printed copies made it much easier to manage. Entry to Kefalonia was again really straightforward, no undue delays or queues. Transfers to Ithaca also felt safe. As usual, Judi (Simpson’s local rep) was on hand to meet us on arrival. Just love Judi, down to earth but always there to help when needed. Villa was as expected (we've been to the island three times before) and would thoroughly recommend. Overall experience in main town was positive. Did not feel unsafe and face masks warn in all premises. We organised our return Covid test via Judi at local clinic, much easier, quicker (and cheaper) than bringing one with you from UK. We got a printed copy of the test result for our return to the UK. Judi also offered to print out our UK PLF which again made things much easier than faffing around trying to find on phone/tablet. Return trip was just as easy as the outbound one and amazingly no queues at immigration on our return to Manchester. Brilliant holiday, managed well by brilliant company and brilliant rep.
Nitsa's house in Ithaca was lovely; stunning views over the sea and Frikes port a 5-minute walk away. Accommodation of the highest standard and everything prepared to make us comfortable.
