Set above the impossibly beautiful harbour in Kioni sits Kyparissi, a place of such simple charm and authenticity it cannot fail to capture the heart. Serving as a family retreat for several generations, the property is now owned by Calliope who has transformed it into five spacious one and two-bedroom suites and we couldn’t be more delighted that she has chosen to share them with us.
Her artistic background, respect for the island’s history and innate passion for the aesthetics of the natural world have led to a delightful restoration overlooking the azure waters of the Ionian. The suite interiors are light, bright, almost ethereal in feel, with primary colours inspired by the abstract paintings of Mondrian adding accents of colour to the simple whitewashed walls. The effect is one of peace, harmony and relaxation, a fitting backdrop to the seductive beauty of Ithaca’s spectacular landscape and coastline.
Two-bedroom suites are split level and situated on the upper floors, each with a large balcony leading off the living room, small balcony from the main bedroom and magnificent Ionian views. Ideal for couples seeking a little extra space, or families in the peak season (children over 12 only), they offer the finest views but if you’re after a romantic hideaway, the one-bedroom suites each enjoy a private garden terrace, ideal for a quiet siesta as the gentle breeze drifts in from the sea.
Kyparissi is named after the cypress trees found in the gardens, where the soft scent of Mediterranean pine is infused with jasmine, rose, lavender and rosemary – a real treat for the senses and a calm oasis above the rhythm of daily life in Kioni. Yet just a five-minute stroll leads down to the harbour front. It’s a decidedly classy little fishing village - lively by day during the peak summer months when the yachts moor up for lunch, yet wonderfully laid back in the evenings. Here you’ll find a bakery, grocery store and delicatessen as well as an appealing selection of boutique shops and tavernas serving delicious fresh fish and local dishes. Amble down at sunset for a pre-dinner drink at one of the waterside cafes - perfect as the sky turns crimson and the lights begin to twinkle around the bay.
There are several pebble beaches within easy walking distance of Kyparissi and a 15-minute stroll along the waterfront leads to a traditional cantina serving drinks and snacks. And though we highly recommend you hire a boat to discover those parts of the island more easily accessible from the sea, it’s not just the coast that’s worth exploring. Walking trails uncover ancient churches and the fertile remnants of Ithaca’s wealthy past exporting home-grown lavender and raisins across the continent. It’s very easy to come to this part of Ithaca without a car and still feel you’ve scratched beneath the surface of the island’s rich history; walk up to the one-time capital Anogi and you’ll find an old church housing priceless Byzantine treasures and a rather quaint restaurant in the village square where you can dine with the locals.
Ithaca is an island where ancient history and mythology meet, the evocative destination for Odysseus in Homer’s Iliad and as far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life as you could ever wish to be. And though the Kyparissi suites have no lofty pretentions when it comes to high-tech gadgetry, they lack nothing when it comes to heart, soul and artistic character. A stay here has a poetic quality that lingers long after you’ve said your sad goodbyes and as you might expect, it attracts a loyal following. Our stay at Kyraprassi Suites was simply wonderful and went beyond all our expectations. To open the shutters each morning and see the view across Kioni bay was a joy. We can’t wait to return and so many happy memories of our stay on Ithaca will fuel us through the winter months until we can return. ST local rep Judith Levi and Calli, the owner & interior designer of the Suites, could not have been more kind or helpful. Both going out of their way to make our stay was easy and memorable. We shall not forget Judith standing port side to wave us off as we left Ithaca by boat. We are seasoned Simpson Travel guests but this, to us, was the company at its very best. Thank you to the whole ST team as ever and to Judith and Calli in particular, who showed seamless teamwork.
Calli was a wonderful host who made our stay at Kypraissi feel very special and personal. The welcome pack was excellent and any request was agreed with a smile. Calli spent time with us to discuss her knowledge, not only of Ithaca, but of her many interests.
Sometimes after a Simpson Travel Holiday you just want to keep it a secret because part of the attraction is that the best of what they offer is slightly off the beaten tourist track and as a customer, you hope it will stay that way. We had a wonderful week at the Kyparissi Suites in Kioni in the north east of Ithaca. Time stands still beneath cobalt blue skies in this quiet little port / village. Traditional tavernas serve delicious food and there is plenty to explore further afield in the island, if you can bear to leave Kioni. We particularly enjoyed breakfasts in Stavros village and evening drinks by the sea at Frikes. But to walk down the steps beyond the village of Kioni and dip into the glittering turquoise sea below is unbeatable.

Our stay at Chronus, Kyparissi Suites was without fault. The local representative was informative - without being intrusive - but always on hand to answer any questions. She made it very clear she was our contact at all times. The owner of the property was friendly, pleasant and ready to make sure we enjoyed our stay. And, the property itself was amazing. Faultless. So clean and so well equipped. Would recommend the property to friends and family. As long as we get the opportunity to book first!

The property was excellent and in a great location. The island was well worth visiting and certainly enjoyable to hire a boat as the coastline is more accessible by this means of transport. Judith the local Simpsons representative was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed following some of her recommendations.
Firstly, going to Ithaca is a historical journey to the land of the original Greek traveler Odysseus. The town of Kioni is the most quaint of by far the majority of villages in the Ionian sea. So the stage is set for an extraordinary and unique vacation. The sea is beautiful the water is clean and you are can relax and enjoy every moment. The Kyparissia apartment's have a wonderfully welcoming feel. From the minute you walk into them you feel at home. They are spacious, simply but beautifully decorated, and have wonderful views. The furniture is comfortable as are the beds and importantly the area is quiet and you can rest at your leisure. You can sit on the balcony sip your gin or wine, read your book and watch all the yachts trying to jostle for space in the harbour all at the same time. Walking to the grocery store, to dinner or for a drink is just a stones throw away. At around 10:20 every day the baker stops his van outside and you can by fresh bread and pastries right outside your door. (you have to listen to his horn). All i can say is that the Kyparissia apartment's in Kioni Ithaca are worth the visit. We stayed for three weeks and enjoyed every second. A vacation worth repeating annually.
Kyparassi is the most perfect place to stay…it was all immaculately presented, beautifully taken care of and a wonderful sense of peace as you watched the boats ebb in and out with a welcoming breeze from the hills…the most idyllic place to come home to after a day on the beach…stunning.
We had a fabulous holiday and once again Simpson Travel were just great. The office staff are so friendly and helpful making booking so easy. First time to Ithaca and won’t be our last ! As usual Simpson had everything organised for a smooth transfer and arrival . We loved Kioni and Kyparissi suites allow for stunning views over the bay with a short walk to tavernas and shops as well as the local beach. Calli the owner was perfect host. So a relaxing week was guaranteed!
We had a wonderful week in Ithaca staying at the Kyparissi Suites which had the most amazing views of the port and out to sea. We had a great time watching the yachts, large and small sailing in and out of the harbour from our balcony. Kioni harbour is beautiful with several excellent tavernas and bars surrounding it, we had great food in all them and lovely evenings sitting by the yachts and looking out across the harbour. There are a couple of beaches about ten minutes walk away, one with a lovely beach taverna which was great for lunch and sitting looking out across the Ionian sea. We have had several excellent holidays with Simpson and this one was as good as any of them! We would definitely recommend staying at Kyparissi Suites.
We have had several holidays with Simpsons and all of them have been excellent. They are always very efficiently run from start to finish. This time we stayed on the island of Ithaca in a lovely suite called Kyparissi which overlooks the harbour of Kioni, a beautiful little port with several excellent tavernas and bars surrounding the harbour.
We were very impressed with our first Simpson Travel holiday from the moment we first called to make an enquiry. The planning and organisation of our holiday was exemplary. We will be calling again!
Spacious, bright, clean apartment with delightful views of Kioni from the (numerous) balconies. Main balcony has loungers and an easy to use umbrella and catches the morning sun. Sitting room is cool, even in the heat of the day, and it’s great to be able to relax on a sofa. Not far to Kioni centre and Cemetery Beach but some quite steep ascents which should be taken into consideration by anyone with mobility problems.
Perfect location overlooking the bay surrounded by flowers and shrubs. The apartment is light and airy with super comfy beds. It’s private and quiet with its own access and only a few minutes stroll to a quiet beach. Beautiful.
The location of the apartment was excellent. It had stunning views and easy access to everything we needed and wanted to do. The apartment owner was very helpful and welcomed us and came to say goodbye. A nice personal touch. Kioni itself was everything we wished for.
