Holidays will be different this summer. Find out how travel is changing and what we are doing to keep you safe here

NEW FOR 2020

This smart contemporary villa close to Hossegor’s popular lake offers comfort and convenience in equal measure. Mature planting in the delightful enclosed garden affords a good degree of privacy and clever design creates a seamless pathway between inside and out. Clean lines, fresh white décor and comfortable soft furnishings are the ideal backdrop for relaxation, with a sleek kitchen and useful utility room well-equipped for easy day-to-day life. Downstairs, the corner of the house can be opened up onto the pool terrace creating the very best of open plan living and the large heated pool, complete with solar cover, is a joy even in the cooler months. Outside there are plenty of appealing options for lying back to unwind with a book and the shaded dining terrace with barbecue is the perfect venue for lazy alfresco meals. When you’re feeling a little more active enjoy a game of table-tennis on the lawn or perhaps stroll along to the lakeside promenade and explore the lagoon - on foot, by bicycle or aboard a paddleboard, depending on your mood. The shops, restaurants and bars of lively Hossegor are also within easy walking distance and the spectacular beaches of the Aquitaine coast are a pleasant 2km cycle ride from the villa.

The versatile layout makes this villa particularly appealing to families with older children and teenagers, with a master en-suite downstairs, three further double bedrooms upstairs and plenty of communal space to spread out or come together as desired. The open sided staircase means we do not recommend Villa Chachic for families with children under 8, though babes in arms are welcome before they’re on the move.

The local area

It is rare to find such a good degree of privacy so close to Hossegor’s many attractions. The lakeside promenade is just a 5-minute walk from the villa and it’s a short stroll further to the lakeside beaches, perfect for swimming and paddle-boarding, while the famous oyster shacks of the north shore are about 15-minutes away. A 10-minute stroll will take you into central Hossegor to enjoy the fashionable boutiques, colourful market and cosmopolitan restaurants and the Hossegor & Seignosse Ocean beaches are an easy 2km cycle ride away; offering some of Europe’s premier surf spots, the beaches here are great for established boarders and beginners alike. There’s also excellent access to an extensive network of family-friendly cycle trails making it easy to enjoy the California lifestyle in laid-back French style and spend a week without a car. And for a slightly more traditional experience, Capbreton is just 2km further south, with its fish market, seafood restaurants and bars serving the local tapas, pintxos.

Days out

The charming city of Bayonne, famed for its fine chocolate and cured hams, is a half-hour drive away whilst world renowned Biarritz lies a little further south; offering an intoxicating blend of Belle Époque glamour, elegant eateries and fashionable shops. The picture postcard hillside villages of the Basque Country give an insight into the area’s rich cultural heritage and a visit to the pretty fishing port of St-Jean-de-Luz, the culinary capital of the region, is sure to delight, with its family-friendly beaches and historic town centre. A short ferry ride from Hendaye will take you to the atmospheric coastal town of Hondarrabia in Spain; or you can drive across the border to enjoy tapas in San Sebastian or at the Guggenheim in Bilbao. For nature lovers, the peaceful wetland reserve Marais d’Orx, with its high-sided wooden walkways, is a safe-haven for families with little ones; or further afield, children will love the funicular train rides at Ascain and Artouste in The Pyrénées National Park. Older children will love the thrills and spills of the Seignosse and Labenne-Océan waterparks.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Once entirely marshland, this region is now a natural playground of sand dunes and beaches, pine forests and picturesque lakes, where walking and cycling are the most pleasurable ways of getting around. An idyllic meeting of France and California with truly spectacular waves and wide-ranging cuisine, upmarket Hossegor thrives on a surfing culture of stylish, laid-back living. However, in authentic Capbreton next door, and many of the towns and villages no more than an hour away, the historical roots go deeper and there’s much to explore.
