Last-minute Mallorca holidays

If you’ve been holding off booking your summer holiday, now is the time and Mallorca is the place to grab a last-minute break. With short flights, good roads, a vibrant capital city and no fewer than 22 Blue Flag beaches, this is Europe’s have-it-all destination for a last-minute holiday, with lots going on but minimal travel hassle. Most villas around Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa are no more than 45 minutes to an hour from the airport, so you can be on your way and cooling off in your private swimming pool before you can say brand new bikini.

“From the first contact, right through to saying goodbye to the Simpson manager at destination, all was handled so well. In fact of all the villa / holiday companies that we have used, nobody comes close!” Mr Michael Rainford

Which is the best area of Mallorca for last-minute holidays?

Mallorca is quite a small island so nothing is ever too far away to see and do in a day, but it pays to base yourself in the right area to make the most of your holiday. Where you choose to stay in Mallorca really comes down to the kind of holiday you're after. The south of the island, around Palma, is home to the busiest resorts and biggest nightlife scene, while the north-east offers a slower pace with a more refined, family-friendly atmosphere. This area is a favourite of ours, with two main bases: the historic old town of Pollensa and its nearby seaside resort of Puerto Pollensa.

Pollensa's charming Old Town is best explored on foot, with winding lanes and hidden alleyways leading towards its beautiful central square. It's worth parking on the outskirts before wandering in. The square is lined with excellent cafés and restaurants, creating a relaxed buzz that never feels too hectic, and just the sort of place that appeals when you want a last-minute break. Sundays bring one of Mallorca's best-loved markets, where you'll find everything from speciality local produce to beachwear and souvenirs.

Just a 10-minute drive away, Puerto Pollensa – or Port de Pollença in the local dialect – combines a laid-back beach atmosphere with plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. The marina forms the heart of the resort, while the broad sandy beaches to the south are ideal for swimming, watersports and boat excursions. Head north from the marina and you'll find the famous Pine Walk, a picturesque waterfront promenade shaded by mature Aleppo pines and holm oaks. The leisurely 30-minute stroll is perfect before dinner or for settling little ones to sleep in a pushchair.

The surrounding countryside is scattered with luxury villas, making Pollensa an excellent base if you want easy access to both the coast and the town while enjoying a little extra space and privacy. For those keen to explore beyond the beaches, there are wonderful walking routes along the coastline and into the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. Your local concierge can suggest the best trails, or browse our guide to villa holidays in Pollensa for more ideas on where to go and what to see.
