The best views are to the rear of the villa, so it’s here you’ll find the main living spaces with full-height windows and patio doors opening onto the terrace overlooking the pool and gardens.

It’s a very well-equipped property, with helpful extras such as fast fibre Internet both inside and outside, a Sonos music system and a TV room with Smart TV giving you all the comforts of home. Four good-sized bedrooms complete the picture, ideal for a family group or a gathering of friends.

Asian decorative touches lend character and warmth to the interiors, but the view here is pure Algarve, reaching far out over the villa’s own orchards to the Loulé hills beyond, and for us, the biggest appeal of Quinta das Amendoas is the outside space. There are multiple terraces so you can live pretty much the entire holiday outside if you wish, with space for dining and barbecuing on the top level and a beautifully lit pool terrace below for lazy days and romantic evenings. There are further decks and a lawn area at pool level, perfect for your morning yoga stretch or a well-deserved afternoon taking it easy on a lounger. There’s even your very own poolside “Buddha Bar”, complete with drinks fridge, ice machine, dishwasher and plenty of pool-safe glassware, so all you need to do is stock up at the start of the week and you’ll have everything you need for an intimate little pool party whenever you like.

For shopping and an excellent selection of restaurants, Loulé is 5km away; for beaches and golf, the celebrated Golden Triangle resorts of Quinta do Lago, Dunas Douradas and Vale do Lobo are around 25 minutes away by car. Above all, this is a house that’s brilliantly set up for a week or two of quality downtime,  so if you’re after a total break in idyllic surroundings, it’s just what the holiday doctor ordered.
