Holidays with teenagers: full teen ahead
As a family company, we've experienced all the joys and challenges of travelling with children, and we know that the older they get, the harder they can be to please! If you’re wondering how to tackle that eggshell walk towards holiday harmony with teenagers, read on for some tried and tested solutions.
Corsica is Europe’s natural adventure playground, with almost limitless Instagram moments on the water and in the wild mountains of the interior. Raise a (happy) scream from even the most dedicated screen-ager with a canyoning excursion – three hours of adrenalin-pumping jumping, scrambling and climbing along mountain rivers and dramatic gorges in the shadow of the mighty Col de Bavella. And if they’re not so keen on getting wet, the new Bike Park de Bavella offers terrain to challenge all levels from novice to nutter!
Most teens are happy just about anywhere as long as they have their phones and their friends with them, so one easy way to keep the mood light is join forces with another family or two and take over one of our large villas. With over 100 properties sleeping eight or more people, you’ll find group-friendly houses in virtually all our destinations, and if you’d prefer to retain a little family privacy, we recommend our villas together collection.
CUT SOME SLACK
No-one’s advocating relinquishing parental responsibility here, but a little freedom can go a long way to promoting holiday harmony, and certain smaller resorts, such as Kalkan in Turkey and Nissaki, Kassiopi and Agios Stephanos in north east Corfu offer low-key, teen-friendly cafes and beach clubs for older children to meet and mix. Many are within walking distance of our villas, so you don’t even have to provide the parental taxi service.
Described as French style with Californian attitude, Hossegor is the surfing capital of Europe, and one of the coolest little resorts you’ll find anywhere in France. You’ll be amazed by how quickly even novices can ride the waves with some decent instruction; just be prepared to spend hours on the beach as the official photographer! Away from the sea there are plenty of shops, cafes and bars, all with the ubiquitous surf-chic style, but low-key enough that teenagers can safely go off by themselves on foot or by bike, leaving you to the luxurious privacy of your villa’s own pool if you prefer.
