NEW FOR 2026
Conversas de Alpendre sits in a bewitching spot in the unspoilt eastern Algarve, far removed from the glitz of the high-profile golf resorts, yet very close to beaches, villages and the wild beauty of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The name of the hotel translates roughly as ‘verandah chats’, a perfect way to sum up the welcoming atmosphere which invites you to slow down, relax and enjoy the moment in these beautiful, tranquil surroundings.
The hotel was converted from an old farmhouse to create a unique cluster of 13 suites, cabins and apartments, each with its own terrace or balcony. Some are romantic, others more family-friendly but all are gorgeously unique, above all the Tree House, which sits six metres off the ground in a magnificent old carob tree. Breakfast is a feast of homemade breads, orchard-fresh juices and local honey, and will set you up for a day of exploring using the hotels bikes, or a round at the nearby Quinta da Ria golf course. You may prefer to stay put in the glorious rambling gardens however, basking by the saltwater pool, enjoying a massage with indulgent local products or calming your mind at one of the free twice weekly yoga sessions. Come the evening, chill out in the Chiringuito bar while the chef conjures up Algarve specialities using the freshest local produce.
The location of Conversas de Alpendre means it’s ideal for both escape and adventure. Nearby Cacela Velha is an absurdly picturesque jumble of low, white-washed cottages and cobbled streets overlooking the beach, with an 18th-century fort and a handful of local restaurants. Take a morning or more to explore Tavira, hop over the border into Spain for a day or let the helpful hotel team organise beach transfers, private boat tours, dolphin spotting, horse riding and more, all designed to show you the Algarve’s most charming and authentic side.

Algarve holidays promise a wealth of different experiences and landscapes, whether you choose a private villa or a hotel as your base.
Portugal’s most southerly region boasts an iconic and instantly recognisable coastline of fine sandy beaches backed by ochre-yellow cliffs, sea stacks and rock archways that stand testament to the power of nature. Inland, there are rolling hills dotted with citrus and olive groves, plus crumbling castles, mountain villages and walking paths to explore. The Algarve is unique in enjoying an Atlantic coast with a Mediterranean climate, attracting not just holidaymakers but also a wide variety of birdlife that flocks to the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
And despite its long term popularity as a villa holiday destination, the Algarve has retained pockets of real character in its old towns and regional capital Faro, where you can still eat well relatively inexpensively. Portuguese cuisine is in our view one of the most underrated in Europe, so prepare to be deliciously surprised by fresh fish, hearty stews, sweet pastries and of course, world-renowned wines: saúde!
