Situated between the traditional old village of Adele and the sandy beach at Adelianos Kampos lies Villa Antiopi, a beautiful stone house set in attractive gardens, with ancient olive and fruit trees. The house allows for space and privacy with several terraced areas in the large and enclosed gardens and it stands alone in its rural surroundings with gentle views of fields, hills and olive groves. Rethymno, with its fortress, museums, Venetian and Ottoman architecture, as well as numerous shops and restaurants, is just seven kilometres away. The beautiful monastery of Arkadi is five kilometres away as is the Myli Gorge – a wonderfully green and atmospheric place, perfect for walkers, with tiny churches, an old village and ruined mills.

Customer feedback

We had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday in Crete. Simpson Travel and in particular our rep, Klaudia, made sure that everything went very smoothly. We will definitely book again with Simpson!
Andrew Date – October 2019

Spent a very relaxing two weeks here. A trip into the hills to the Monastery and the Archaeological Museum, which is well worth a visit, as is the Monastery, even if it does look a bit like a set from a spaghetti western! A drive to the south coast was spectacular. We also took a tour to Knossos, electing not to drive for that one (good decision). Our thanks to Klaudia and Anti for sorting a few things out. All in all we’ve had a great time and it is with some reluctance we head back to the UK.
Martin, Catherine & Jon – September 2019

A wonderful two weeks – just right for all the family. We loved the owls, the peaceful olive groves and the sunsets. The organisation from Simpson was excellent and thanks for the exact directions to the villa. Recommend Maroulas – hilltop village, very close and a great biofarm and restaurant. Margarites for peaceful hilltop breezes, tavernas and pottery.
The Robertson family – August 2019

Lovely, relaxing holiday in traditional Cretan villa with beautiful pool, set amongst the olive groves. Klaudia was an excellent and charming rep.
Simpson Traveller – August 2019

We loved the pool and air-conditioned rooms. Thank so much for such excellent service from the cleaner, pool tender/gardener and Klaudia.
Anton (13), Luke (16), Odette (19) – July/August 2019

Thank you to Antiopi for a lovely relaxing week in the beautiful spot – the cicadas, eagles, swifts and olive trees have all made for a beautiful stay. We would recommend a trip to Arkadi Monastery – but go as early as you can to avoid the coach parties and allow you to soak up the tranquillity. Further afield, the ruins at Phaistos are very impressing and atmospheric and the nearby beach at Neo Kalamaki (next one along from Matala) is pretty and unspoilt. Another lovely beach is Kalaki – there is a decent beach taverna but it only takes cash. In Georgiopoulos itself the taverna on the corner does a very good lunch. A wander round the old town of Rethymno is very enjoyable and A Boehme restaurant is great. All in all a wonderful holiday – thank you Simpson – another gem!
Nic, Gwyneth, Gareth & Jonathan – July 2019

Thank you – a wonderful week, fine cuisine, lovely scenery, wonderful people on the island and glorious sunshine. Many great and helpful recommendations – thank you all at Simpson Travel.
Marle, Jess, Jemima, Issy & Olivia – July 2019

I thought the support and logistics were really effortless, which helped me hugely. A fantastic holiday – many thanks.
James – July 2019

Our second Simpson holiday and again a pleasure from start to finish. The prices seem expensive when compared to some other operators but Simpson has perfected every aspect of the holiday experience and the premium is worth every penny. For family villa holidays we don't look anywhere else.
The Burdett Family – June 2019

This is our third Simpson villa holiday and yet again it met all our expectations. Our intention was to have a peaceful week reading books by the pool. The pool is the best one yet. We occasionally ventured out to buy provisions. On our last night we went to Rethymno – beautiful port, very touristy. Fantastic fish dinner at the old port – can’t remember name – too much ouzo! Back home to the rat race tomorrow but sure we will be back again to visit and explore more.
James & Paula – June 2019

A very fine and relaxing week in most excellent surroundings and much comfort. Preveli beach worth the drive (though beach café not up to much). Arkadi Monastery and surrounding villages (good lunch on terrace at Aravanes in Thronos). Melidoni cave well worth seeing (best lunch of all at Carob & Olive in Melidoni village). Recommend walk to church for sunset over the bay. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our very happy week.
Nic, Liz & Woody – June 2019

A pleasant week spent in lovely surroundings. Weather variable and not much opportunity to use the pool. Visited several interesting places including the Arkadi Monastery and the 25 small lion fountains in Spilli. We have been to Crete on numerous occasions so we avoided the big towns and preferred the small villages. Much more like the real rural Crete.
Sandra & Richard – May 2019

We have enjoyed a lovely warm week and swam in the pool most days. The delightful cottage is in a good centre for exploring the island. We visited Arkadi Monastery, Mili, Spili and the Roman ruins at Aptera – most interesting. Also enjoyed beaches on the south coast – Souda and Damnoni – lovely, Plakia is overdeveloped. Wonderful scenery, wild flowers and broom, exciting gorges to drive through. Also enjoyed relaxing in the garden around the pool.
Caroline & Paul – May 2019

Klaudia was a fantastic rep...so proud and enthusiastic about her island and rightly so. Villa was beautifully tranquil and so private, with the added bonus of being able to watch the swallows skimming the surface of the pool right next to us.
Stefan Jones – May 2019

It is the best villa holiday we have had and would like to thank all staff and reps for this. Also, big thanks to the staff at the villa for making our stay a good time.
Mr H – October 2018

The pool was the best one we've had - it was beautifully maintained and lovely to use. The setting of Villa Antiopi was lovely and there were so many areas to use around the pool and gardens where there was always a comfy seat in the shade, or a sunbed in the right position. The air conditioning in the bedrooms made for a very restful holiday in 35+ degrees of heat!
Frances – September 2018

We would thoroughly recommend a week at Villa Antiopi followed by a week at Villa Trouli for exploring Western Crete. Each villa is beautiful with fabulous views and they both have large pools and beautiful gardens for relaxing at any time of the day. Enjoy the swallows swooping low over the water in the evenings and the bats flying around at night. Magic!
Sarah & Martyn Pearce – July 2018

Villa Antiopi provided a tranquil retreat for a glorious 14-day holiday. The villa was comfortable, clean and the outdoor pool area was a star feature. Everyone involved in the holiday experience from booking, to pre-departure, to the island rep, to the owners and cleaner were friendly and helpful. The Cretan hospitality, food, beaches and wonderful history were amazing. Every person I had contact with were extremely helpful and accommodating especially with regards to my autistic son, the first holiday company that allied my concerns and made our adventure as stress free as possible. We would highly recommended this villa and the beautiful island of Crete. We will certainly be looking to book with Simpson Travel again in the future.
Mrs Canning – August 2017

Hidden in an olive grove with complete peace and quiet but only 15 minutes from Rethymno, this location could not have been better; we have rested by the pool and slept in the cool bedrooms but still been able to visit so many of the wonderful sights of Crete. Everyone has been charming and helpful and we have loved every moment. I hope we will be able to come back and look at what we have missed (so much!).
Samantha, Nicholas, Thomas and Henry – July 2017

We thought the personal service was excellent and will definitely use Simpson Travel again. Any problems were dealt with straight away.
Mrs Harris – July 2017

Thank you for the use of your beautiful villa. We have had a memorable week, the surroundings are best taken in with an ouzo on the balcony, a lovely place to sit and reflect on how lovely Crete can be. Fabulous pool, beautifully clean and maintained. Thanks to Simpson Travel and Ray for lots of good tips and advice. Another great holiday.
Alan and Cathy – June 2017

Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

As the birthplace of Zeus, Central Crete carries a certain historic and spiritual gravitas. Knossos, the Minoan Bronze Age palace, steals the show, but there are many other smaller archaeological sites, churches and towns to cast you back in time. However, with harbourside dining, beautiful beaches, mountain villages and vibrant summer festivals, the here and now also has a lot to offer. And Rethymno, which has clung on to much of its authentic beauty and charm, is a welcome addition to your island experience.
