NEW FOR 2026

Our hand-picked Portugal programme is full of nice surprises, and this stunning contemporary villa for eight is definitely not what we expected to find in amongst the carob, almond and olive trees of the Boliqueime countryside. Casa do Patio is chic, unique and a tiny bit quirky, with top marks for style plus restaurants within walking distance and easy access to golf courses and the coast. Its style and location make it particularly suitable for adult parties or families with older children.

From the outside, this pristine white house is all clean lines and sharp angles, softened by lush, Mediterranean-style walled gardens that sit below the pool. With peaceful countryside views, this is a splendid spot for sunworshippers all day long, and it’s even more magnificent as dusk falls and the pool becomes a mirror reflecting all the magical lights and colours of evening. Vast expanses of sliding glass sit front and back, open to a shaded inner courtyard on one side, and the pool on the other, with a further terrace up on the roof for distant sea views.

In contrast to the minimalist exterior, the décor inside feels soft and inviting, setting soft rugs and pretty florals against a pared-back framework of exposed concrete and natural wood. Three of the four bedrooms are accessed from the inner courtyard, offering an extra sense of privacy for a family with teens or an adult group, with plenty of social spaces when you all want to get together. And while Boliqueime doesn’t offer any wild nightlife, it is walkable in just seven minutes, giving teens the freedom to come and go under their own steam.

Boliqueime is a typical small town with whitewashed houses and traditional restaurants, making this an excellent base if you want a more authentic and uncrowded Algarve holiday, and there’s wonderful walking countryside all around if you’re here during the cooler months. It’s also an easy option when you want to combine coast and country, just a 15 to 20 minute drive from some of the best beaches on the whole of the Algarve.

Good to know:

The infinity edge of the pool is unfenced; children must be supervised at all times. For safety reasons, the roof terrace is out of bounds to children under 12.

Algarve holidays promise a wealth of different experiences and landscapes, whether you choose a private villa or a hotel as your base.

Portugal’s most southerly region boasts an iconic and instantly recognisable coastline of fine sandy beaches backed by ochre-yellow cliffs, sea stacks and rock archways that stand testament to the power of nature. Inland, there are rolling hills dotted with citrus and olive groves, plus crumbling castles, mountain villages and walking paths to explore. The Algarve is unique in enjoying an Atlantic coast with a Mediterranean climate, attracting not just holidaymakers but also a wide variety of birdlife that flocks to the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

And despite its long term popularity as a villa holiday destination, the Algarve has retained pockets of real character in its old towns and regional capital Faro, where you can still eat well relatively inexpensively. Portuguese cuisine is in our view one of the most underrated in Europe, so prepare to be deliciously surprised by fresh fish, hearty stews, sweet pastries and of course, world-renowned wines: saúde!

Customer testimonials

Simpson Travel were very professional and attentive from the time of booking to arrival back home, even providing further subsequent support. Nothing was too much trouble to them when we asked for information and further services. Their concierge service was also first class and we felt they were always at hand throughout the entire holiday. Would certainly recommend and we will be using Simpson Travel again in the future

Mr Neil Dowlman August 2026

Casa do Pátio was the perfect base for our first visit to the Algarve. We were two families travelling together, with children aged 10–12, and the villa worked brilliantly for all of us. It is spacious, beautifully presented and very comfortable, with plenty of room to be together without ever feeling on top of one another. The villa was exceptionally clean when we arrived and the beds were really comfortable – always something we appreciate on holiday! The pool and outside areas were a huge hit with both the adults and children and we spent some very happy, lazy hours just enjoying the villa. One of the loveliest surprises was the rooftop terrace. We hadn't fully appreciated from the villa details quite how special the outlook would be, but the 360-degree views across the Algarve are wonderful. It became a favourite spot to take in the scenery and really gives you a sense of the beautiful countryside surrounding Boliqueime. We also loved the location. Boliqueime had everything we needed locally and felt much more relaxed and authentic than staying in one of the larger resorts, while still being really well placed for exploring. The villa is at the top of quite a steep hill, which is worth being aware of, but of course that elevated position also rewards you with those fabulous views. We used Casa do Pátio as our base for exploring different parts of the Algarve and particularly loved our visit to Quinta da Tôr vineyard. Sitting by the pool for a wine tasting, looking out over the vines and endless countryside, was a real holiday highlight and somewhere we would definitely recommend visiting. This was our second holiday with Simpson Travel and once again we were really impressed by the service. We felt well looked after throughout and the whole experience reinforced why we chose to travel with Simpson again. Our only constructive feedback relates to the Avis car hire arrangements. On arrival Avis had two identical bookings in our name, although this was easily resolved. We were also asked for two credit cards in the main driver's name, rather than one, which fortunately we happened to have with us but hadn't understood would be required. When we asked about the insurance included with our booking, Avis were also unable to clearly explain the level of cover we had, which felt a little disjointed compared with the otherwise very smooth Simpson experience. It would be helpful for future guests if these points could be clarified before travel. They are relatively small observations from what was otherwise a fantastic holiday. We loved our time at Casa do Pátio, thought it was a wonderful villa for two families, and came home feeling that there was still so much of the Algarve we would like to explore. We would very happily return.
