Meli is the Greek word for honey, which is an apt description for the mellow natural feel of this lovely villa both inside and out. With polished wood floors, exposed beams and a double-height living/dining space, the house is both cosy and airy, finished with a subtly French flavour and impeccable taste. The master bedroom is on the ground floor, with direct terrace access, whilst upstairs there’s a cosy twin, also with a delightful sea view from its large porthole window. The outside space feels really generous for four, with sunny and shady spots for relaxing or dining, plus plenty of room around the pool for rest and play.

From Meli’s lofty position the craggy coastline beckons temptingly, lapped by translucent turquoise water and indented here and there by pristine pebble coves such as Climati and Kremidi, the former being just a two-minute drive or a 15-minute steep walk (longer coming back!). There are many other little swimming spots nearby, including the so-called sulphur beaches at Xigia, popular for the supposed health-giving qualities of the water, and the sandy, family-oriented Alykes around 25 minutes to the south. The larger beaches all have at least a taverna or two to provide drinks and some local dishes.

For dining out near your villa you can either head into the small harbour village of Agios Nikolaos for typical Greek cuisine, or drop into one of several much more contemporary places which nestle on the shoreline just off the coast road into the village. Closer still you'll find a clutch of tavernas just before Makris Gialos beach; a 20-minute downhill walk, or 3 minutes in the car. Villa Meli is also ideally placed to explore the most photogenic spots on Zakynthos, with the Blue Caves and Navagio beach easily reached in around half an hour by car.

Meli is one of three detached villas, each well separated from the others, with individual entrances and swimming pools offset to maximise privacy. Meli is the highest of the three, with Yasmi set below it but not obscuring the view. The Athens-based owner designed the villas for her children, and therefore included some common areas, including a large additional sun terrace and a boules alley, which all guests are welcome to use. For a larger group, Levandi, Yasmi and Meli booked together would be a fantastic combination to mark a special occasion.

Meli was a comfortable, private villa in a beautiful location with impressive views. We loved the communal boules area and the gardens. The pool was a welcome relief from the hot sun. It all made for complete relaxation.

Mrs Michelle Barry, September 2023

Our rep Nikki was amazing; welcomed us at the villa on our late arrival, recommended and booked great restaurants, kept us informed of local events and proactively arranged a late checkout. This with her friendly style made our holiday truly memorable!

Mr Andrew Mackay, August 2023

A lovely relaxing place with a Caribbean vibe. Our rep, Nikki, was very helpful and came to meet us and lead us to our property because the flight was delayed and we arrived in the dark. Much appreciated on the windy roads of Zakynthos.

Mrs Katherine Grottick, August 2023

We loved Villa Meli with its beautiful views, and found it comfortable and well designed. We particularly appreciated the garden with the lavender planted around the terrace and the flowers in the border. The Simpson representative, Nikki, was outstanding in her kindness, efficiency and thoughtfulness.

Sandra Clark, July 2023

Our stay here in 2022 was so good we came back this year! Nikki was exceptionally good – available, responsive and effective. Another excellent holiday courtesy of Simpson Travel.

Rod & Sally, June 2023

Villa Meli was a lovely place to be for a week. The scented gardens surrounding the villa were a joy. The pool area was lovely with an outdoor shower. Seating areas were plentiful with gorgeous shaded dinning table. The weather was a bit all over the place but we managed a handful of sunny days and Villa Meli felt like home.

Clare Pemberton, June 2023

We've had a really lovely week here. The views are beautiful, the sunrises spectacular and the villa very comfortable. Our children loved the pool and the giant chess set and we loved relaxing on the sun loungers. A great week away in a stunning place.

The Woodgates, May 2023

We have loved our week at this amazing villa, fantastic views and worth waking up early to see the sunrise. Limnionas is great for snorkelling along with local beach Makris Gialos.

Matt, Eva, Ben & Thomas, August 2022

We have had the best 2 weeks here, so relaxing and an amazing location. The villa and outside space is excellent, made use of the pool every day, along with the local beaches. Makris Gialos is fab early morning.

Karen, Jim, Bertie & Tilly, August 2022

A blissful week in this wonderful villa, really enjoyed the outdoor area and pool and chess board. Makris Gialos beach was gorgeous for swimming. Thanks to Phillipa for being a top notch host and responding so kindly and helpfully.

Nicki, Nick, Darcy and Ellie, August 2022

We have had the most wonderful week here in Zakynthos. Phillipa and her team went the extra mile to make sure everything went smoothly and we had everything we needed. The villa is stunning, definitely recommend the sunrise and boules at dusk. The highlight for us was renting a boat and spending an amazing day exploring all the lovely beaches. I'm sure we'll be back.

Emma, Simon, Lili & Oli, July 2022

A lovely villa with great views, we all had a great week in Zakynthos. We loved cooking and eating outside in our quiet and beautiful surroundings. Will definitely use Simpson travel again.

Wonderful stay, lovely villa and very attentive service from Barbara. The Climati cove is perfect for morning or evening swims. Phillipa is our superstar!

Edgar Allen Poe described Zakynthos as 'the flower of the Levante' and today, nearly 200 years later, this multi-faceted destination remains among the least developed of the larger Greek islands. The north in particular retains a timeless feel, thanks in part to its more rugged landscape that makes travel a little slower but infinitely more rewarding. There’s beauty and drama in towering cliffs and forest-clad mountains, but also hours of family fun on golden sandy beaches. From sleepy Agios Nikolaos in the north to the vibrant capital Zakynthos Town, you’ll find luxury villas and romantic honeymoon suites in some of the island’s most idyllic locations.
