  • Charming country house
  • Set in stunning Gordes
  • Beautiful Luberon views
  • Outdoor kitchen
  • Restaurants and shops 5-minute walk
  • Air conditioning

Nestled into spacious gardens just a 5-minute walk from the centre of Gordes, this charming, stone-built house delivers the perfect combination of a prime location and outstanding views across the green and gold countryside of the Luberon valley.

Maison de Gordes is built into the olive-growing terraces that have defined the local landscape for centuries, thereby allowing for a larger-than-average garden area with space for a good-sized pool and several seating areas providing sun and shade throughout the day. Inside, the décor is timeless country house style, tastefully in keeping with the area and wonderfully comfortable whether you visit in the height of summer or the milder days of spring and autumn. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the house works well for a smaller family or two couples, with enough wow factor to make it a great honeymoon option or special occasion splurge.

With Gordes on the doorstep, dinner out is easy to reach and hard to resist. If you’ve had a long day exploring however, it might be just as tempting to cook up something simple in the outdoor kitchen, and savour the glorious Luberon views along with your favourite ice cold tipple as the first stars of the evening appear.

The local area

Gordes is full of excellent places to eat, from pavement cafés to fine-dining restaurants, many with a view as impressive as the menu. Try the Tuesday market for little take-home gifts such as lavender or linens as well as local honey, sausage and jam; just add bread and wine and you’ve got an instant lunch! Gordes will be your first and regular port of call for shopping and eating, but there are many other stunning villages within a 20 to 30-minute drive, including Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Roussillon and Lacoste. The countryside is crossed by multiple hiking paths and bike routes, some gentle, some seriously challenging and all well covered by the local tourist information maps. If you visit in lavender season, from late June to mid-August, the purple fields are an unforgettable sight; fans of this magical plant should visit the Musée de la Lavande at nearby Coustellet, which also has an excellent deli for picnic supplies. And if you’ve got the luxury of time on your side for exploration, the celebrated cities of Arles, Nîmes and Orange are all reachable within 60-90 minutes.

Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday week and whilst the pool was too cold, we loved relaxing beside it amongst the trees and birds. Visited stunning hilltop villages. We witnessed some stunning sunrises amongst the olive trees. Well stocked kitchen. Thank you for sharing this beautiful property with us.

The Poz and Petz families, October 2023

A paradise which we have loved every minute of. Thank you Sarah and Camille for a seamless stay. Lovely meals in town. Great antiques hunting in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue – although my hunt for a ‘guillotine du pain’ must wait until next year! Thanks again.

Sarah and Michael, October 2023

We really enjoyed our stay - the villa was exceptional - very comfortable and relaxing.

Mr Michael Halcrow, September 2023

Thank you for a wonderful stay at this gorgeous property. We have loved the Provençal escapism, the stunning views across the Luberon valley and the short hop up into fabulous Gordes. Many thanks.

The Wright family, August 2023

The best thing to do here? Absolutely nothing! We’ve never slept, rested or eaten so well as we have done on our weekly here. Thank you very much.

The Wilsons, August 2023

Wonderful stay. Lovely house in a beautiful location. Recommend the market in Castellet on Sunday morning. Enjoyed the pool, garden and views. Thank you.

Iain & Frae, July 2023

Our second time booking a villa in Provence with Simpson Travel and yet again our expectations were surpassed. The accommodation is always first rate but it's the personal level of service which makes the real difference. We look forward to booking our next holiday with you!

Andrew Wales, July 2023

This is a beautiful Provencal house in a fantastic location. We fell in love with the place – it’s very difficult to leave! There are lots of interesting places to visit including Bonnieux, Menerbes (very beautiful), Rousillon and Goult. A trip to Aix-en-Provence is worth a trip on market day. A definite must is L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, it is a really interesting place with a great selection of restaurants on the river. We will definitely be back. This is such a great place to stay. Thank you!

Steve, Sarah, Colin & Marri, May 2023

Maison de Gordes is a beautiful house in the most spectacular of locations. The views overlooking the Luberon are truly amazing. It is in the perfect location to be able to walk into the village of Gordes and enjoy the atmosphere of this wonderful place. There is a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. Market day is worth a visit too. The surrounding villages of Menerbes, Goult, Bonnieux and L’Isle sur la Sorgue are great places to visit. Castellet is excellent for supermarkets and good restaurants, especially on market days. It is a fantastic place to stay. We will be back.

Stephen Price, May 2023

We had a superb week in this beautiful house which feels very much like a much-loved family home. Loved the interior design, pool and wonderful location. Had excellent meals at Bastide de Pierre and also enjoyed cooking in the house. So many lovely places to visit – Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Lacoste and Lourmarin – all wonderful. We had a special 50th birthday dinner at Bastide de Marie near Ménerbes and also visited La Louvre garden which was stunning. We have fallen in love with the Luberon valley and hope to return!

James & Alison, September 2019

I like the pool. Love Henry X.

Henry (5), August 2019

What a fabulous stay, we have enjoyed every second. The house is beautiful with some wonderful homely touches, the pool is wonderful and quite cool which is great after some serious relaxation! Olivia (7) and Henry (5) loved the pool and spend many hours jumping in and out whilst we sampled more of the wonderful local wine. The hotel, Bastide de Gordes, is delightful and a tad expensive! We went to dinner at the Italian place which was fun with the live music. The best food was at La Tringuette and the views whilst sipping coffee at the coffee place were amazing. What we liked the most was that we were able to just walk up into the village. We all had a much needed break with some quality family time. You must be very proud of your wonderful house. Thank you for sharing it with us and we hope to return.

The Mahoney family, August 2019

We’ve had a really lovely week and it’s a charming house, beautifully styled with lots of nice touches to give us a very comfortable stay. We quickly slotted into a contented morning routine of getting up early when it was cool, picking up croissants and enjoying our morning coffee out on the terrace of Cercle Republique – what a view! We had a fabulous birthday celebration lunch at the Orangerie restaurant at Bastide de Gordes. Absolutely faultless and a stunning setting – but not cheap! Equally enjoyed a much more relaxed pizza at Bastide de Pierre. The market on a Tuesday, though small is also worth a visit – lovely chutney! Jonathan at the jambon and fromage shop just up the road seemed to befriend us on day one – constantly giving us freebies of ham, cheese and even a nice bottle of rosé. We didn’t venture too far during our week, mainly due to the heat but did have a wonderful day out at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and a fabulous lunch at Le Jardin du Quai – a ‘trust the chef’ menu but beautiful! A new sushi restaurant and bar called Le Tigre opened whilst we were there – part of the Bastide de Gordes. Stunning views of the valley and looks like it will be a fun place – we just went for cocktails and starters but really enjoyed it. So returning home contentedly rested and more than well fed! Sarah at Simpson has been very helpful throughout our week – very quick to respond to texts, happy to make restaurant bookings, etc. and promptly sorted a problem with the pool alarm. Thank you Kath and Phil for letting us experience your lovely Provençal home.

Jane & David, July 2019

Thank you for such a lovely stay. What a beautiful house. We had a perfect week in the blazing sunshine. Thank you for providing fans, they kept us alive. We will return as soon as we can!

May & Simon, July 2019

We have had the best time. We’ve seen daily temperatures rise from 31 to a record 42 degrees today! We’ve had such a relaxing holiday, pretty much doing the same thing every day, beginning with a visit to the villa boulangerie to buy fresh pastries and enjoying them with coffee on the tiny terrace with the spectacular view at Cercle République. We managed by some stroke of luck to get the same table each morning – there can’t be many better places to enjoy breakfast in Gordes! We’ve loved escaping from the other tourists and walking down the valley and up to the viewing point as well as finding off-road paths to the Abbaye de Seraque. We’ve enjoyed eating lunch in the shade in the beautiful outdoor kitchen. We have lots of good things to say about dining out in Gordes. And what a treat it’s been to hear the song of a nightingale from the villa each evening. Thank you so much.

Rebecca, Andy & Evan, June 2019

We have had a thoroughly relaxing week…despite the very mixed weather. We have explored the area and eaten well all week.

Alan, Tricia & Olivia, June 2019

Idyllique – thank you! Truffle Ravioli at Bastide de Pierre is very good. Market at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on Sunday, Gorges market on Tuesday (much smaller), Arles, so much to do, too little time. Will be back.

S, J & L, June 2019

We loved this beautifully stylish Provencal villa, with its perfect location just at the edge of the village of Gordes. It was quiet and peaceful, yet just a short walk to the little shops, galleries and gorgeous restaurants. The pool was delightful and a really good size for swimming, and we loved the outdoor kitchen area and the choice of comfortable lounging areas. Thank you once again to Simpson Travel for providing such a wonderful base for our holiday.

Rebecca Caddell, June 2019

Stayed here with our son and daughter-in-law to celebrate our son’s 40th birthday in style! Beautiful house and stunning town, great Provençal market on Tuesday morning and lovely restaurants. L’Artigal and La Tringuette were excellent. Thank you.

Steve, Lynn, Stuart & Sophie, May 2019

What an amazing place to stay. Thank you for a fantastic honeymoon – it was everything we wanted and more. Loved every day. Fantastic service and can’t recommend Simpson highly enough. Would love to come back some day. Thank you.

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.

The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.

A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.

This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
