There’s a well-thought-out mix of covered and open terraces, plus a big barbecue kitchen and ample space to laze around the 10-metre pool. It’s all topped off with a roof terrace, where you can pop up in the cool of early morning or evening and get a view of the sea sparkling just a kilometre or so away.

There’s a well-thought-out mix of covered and open terraces, plus a big barbecue kitchen and ample space to laze around the 10-metre pool. It’s all topped off with a roof terrace, where you can pop up in the cool of early morning or evening and get a view of the sea sparkling just a kilometre or so away.
The house works well for a family, all on one level and with a small outdoor children’s play area to add to all the other enticing holiday entertainment possibilities this coastline provides. The décor is simple, in keeping with the overall feeling of the house, with two smart new shower rooms upping the style and comfort ante. One of the biggest draws here is the privacy afforded by having a relatively large plot, encircled by fencing and mature plants to create a little oasis that’s all yours to enjoy with friends and family. Carvoeiro centre, one of our favourite Algarve resorts, is walkable in about half an hour, as is Benagil beach and its famous hole-in-the-roof cave. Car hire is included with your holiday, but if you want to eat out and enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner, taxis and Ubers are inexpensive and widely available.

Algarve holidays promise a wealth of different experiences and landscapes, whether you choose a private villa or a hotel as your base.
Portugal’s most southerly region boasts an iconic and instantly recognisable coastline of fine sandy beaches backed by ochre-yellow cliffs, sea stacks and rock archways that stand testament to the power of nature. Inland, there are rolling hills dotted with citrus and olive groves, plus crumbling castles, mountain villages and walking paths to explore. The Algarve is unique in enjoying an Atlantic coast with a Mediterranean climate, attracting not just holidaymakers but also a wide variety of birdlife that flocks to the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
And despite its long term popularity as a villa holiday destination, the Algarve has retained pockets of real character in its old towns and regional capital Faro, where you can still eat well relatively inexpensively. Portuguese cuisine is in our view one of the most underrated in Europe, so prepare to be deliciously surprised by fresh fish, hearty stews, sweet pastries and of course, world-renowned wines: saúde!
