From its mature gardens to its welcoming interiors, Casa Griffith is full of country charm, just like the lovely landscape in which it sits, a few minutes’ drive from Loulé. The house is nestled into the hills above town, offering privacy as well as wide sweeping views across the Algarve countryside to the glittering sea beyond.
We love Casa Griffiths for its cosy and practical interiors, but the biggest attraction here is the outside space. There are mature gardens all around the house for privacy, and a nicely secluded pool terrace that’s also gated for extra peace of mind. There are further shaded terraces around the house for lounging and dining, including a useful covered barbecue area and a cute private terrace for the master bedroom, which overlooks the garden. Tucked away in the garden is another little treat in the form of a pickleball court (fun and easy to learn, a mix of tennis, badminton and table tennis), so there really is everything you need here for a chilled-out family holiday.
If you feel like a change of pace for the day, the coast is conveniently close. The celebrated beaches and resorts of Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura are all a 20 to 25-minute drive away, and if you’re in the mood for something more traditionally Portuguese, pop into Loulé, the crafts capital of the Algarve, with its charming historic centre, good choice of restaurants and excellent Saturday market.

Algarve holidays promise a wealth of different experiences and landscapes, whether you choose a private villa or a hotel as your base.
Portugal’s most southerly region boasts an iconic and instantly recognisable coastline of fine sandy beaches backed by ochre-yellow cliffs, sea stacks and rock archways that stand testament to the power of nature. Inland, there are rolling hills dotted with citrus and olive groves, plus crumbling castles, mountain villages and walking paths to explore. The Algarve is unique in enjoying an Atlantic coast with a Mediterranean climate, attracting not just holidaymakers but also a wide variety of birdlife that flocks to the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
And despite its long term popularity as a villa holiday destination, the Algarve has retained pockets of real character in its old towns and regional capital Faro, where you can still eat well relatively inexpensively. Portuguese cuisine is in our view one of the most underrated in Europe, so prepare to be deliciously surprised by fresh fish, hearty stews, sweet pastries and of course, world-renowned wines: saúde!
