Villa Lidia

Umbria, Italy

  • Characterful and spacious villa
  • Set in glorious Umbrian countryside
  • Extensive gardens with stunning views
  • Comfortable and welcoming

Please note that we now offer Sunday departures for stays at Villa Lidia.

Perched on the top of a hill and set in lush five-hectare gardens, stillness and the rolling Umbrian countryside surround this characterful stone villa. The presence of a separate guest cottage, which sleeps four, also make it a great choice for large groups of up to 12 people, be that extended family or groups of friends.

Leaving the greenery at the door, step into the villa and you’ll be greeted by a warm and inviting interior. With four doubles, one which can be made into a twin, and two twin rooms, flexibility and space are the buzzwords – and from the newly updated rustic kitchen, perfect for rustling up a group meal, to the 15m swimming pool with its stunning views, Villa Lidia is the perfect host. Meanwhile, the gardens set the scene for relaxation, lawns reaching down to woodland and fields below, with Tuscany’s famous Mount Cetona on the horizon.

The local area

Although in Umbria, Villa Lidia isn’t far from Tuscany’s southern border or northern Lazio, making it a great base for exploring. Less than a kilometre away, the now abandoned fortified village of Salci, dating back to the 1500s, makes for an atmospheric neighbour and only 13km away is the charming Città della Pieve, with its narrow cobbled streets and abundant character. Etruscan Cetona is 15km away. Home to the rich and famous, it’s also where you’ll find our magnificent villa La Rocca.

Customer feedback

We really enjoyed our week at Villa Lidia. Its a wonderful, spacious house for a big group. The pool is superb and we'd thoroughly recommend it. Great location, wonderful local restaurant in the closest town and easy to reach well stocked supermarket nearby.
Mrs Grayson - August 2017

We have been a family of 10, aged 11-74, and all ages and stages have thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful villa and its wonderful pool. The four children all voted the pool “the best”. So did I (over 70) and able to swim early morning and late afternoon with the glorious view and surprise visits from two deer and swallows. The house is full of interesting and special furniture and objects and its spacious hall/dining area has been a heaven of cool during our heat-wave week here. We mainly ate here, but would thoroughly recommend a new and interesting restaurant in Fabro called Aroma. The caretakers, gardeners etc have looked after everything excellently. Many thanks.
The Graysons – July 2017

Even for those well-travelled in Umbria, Villa Lidia will be a delight for the senses. For those less rehearsed here is a magical, tranquil oasis. Thank you to all the team at Simpson Travel as well as the lovely team here. Whatever you do here, don’t pass up the chance to sample Nadia’s cooking! Quite the best ‘pasta tartufo’ you will eat!! Huge thanks and respect to the gentle, friendly stewardship of Bernadino, Alessandro, Alessio, Maria and Marta.

Our choice of Italian properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Olive groves and vineyards, forests and flowers – there’s much to love about the abundant natural beauty of Umbria, and plenty of walking trails to help you explore it. The two most high-profile towns, Assisi and Perugia, have spiritual and cultural gravitas in equal measures, the former the erstwhile home of St Francis, who built his famous monastery there. And after a day of contemplation, in churches, galleries, museums and nature, the ‘green heart of Italy‘ will reward you with a generous feast and a glass or two of its famous wine.
