Meditation and Mindfulness at Arosmari
17 to 24 October 2023
“Cultivating closeness and warmth for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It is the ultimate source of success in life.”
~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV
• Would you like to feel calmer and more relaxed in your everyday life?
• Would you like to improve your overall physical and mental wellbeing?
Meditation offers psychological and physical benefits including reduction of stress and anxiety, improved sleep patterns, memory and mood. It is a mind-body practice; taking charge of our mind by thinking deeply, concentrating, or focusing on something for a length of time. Beginners and more experienced practitioners are invited to join Sarah Jane Minter at Arosmari for a wonderfully restorative week of meditation, mindfulness and relaxation.
The setting
Arosmari is a peaceful and beautiful oasis with a profoundly creative heart, set in the traditional village of Vamos in the foothills of the White Mountains. Ten beautifully refurbished 1 and 2-bedroom cottages make up the hotel; all ideal for couples, some suitable for those looking to travel with a friend or companion. Non-practicing partners are encouraged to share the holiday experience and enjoy the idyllic location, perfect for exploring the charming villages and golden beaches of western Crete and the cosmopolitan city of Chania, with its superb restaurants, colourful markets and spectacular Venetian harbour.
The workshops
The week will explore the meaning of mindfulness and meditation, some of the different types of practice (Western, Buddhist and Eastern), how to do it and why it's worthwhile. Guests will have an opportunity to experience various forms of meditation, discuss any obstacles that may arise and will learn how to develop a regular practice. All necessary equipment will be available (mats, bolsters, blocks, and blankets) but guests are welcome to bring their own if preferred.
The week will include the following discussions and practice:
• The health benefits of meditation
• How to create mindfulness in our everyday life
• Journaling
• Body limbering in preparation for meditation
• Different poses for meditation (seated, kneeling, lying)
• Relaxation techniques and restorative poses
• Breath work exercises and techniques to prepare for meditation
• Different types of practice including:
Mindfulness meditation
Guided sleep meditation or Yoga Nidra
Mantra or sound meditation
Moving meditation (walking or simple movement sequences)
