Hameau des Anges means ‘Hamlet of Angels’ and there is something rather heavenly about this charming country house, with its simple yet elegant interiors and heated swimming pool. Set back from the road leading to Roaix, the original 19th-century buildings have been carefully converted to provide a spacious holiday home, an independent one-bedroom guest annexe and a handy pool house, complete with a covered dining terrace and a summer barbecue kitchen. At 14 metres long, the pool is much larger than the average for a private home, so whether you plan to power through 50 laps or simply splash around with the children, there's easily room for both.

The grounds are attractively landscaped, and offer plenty of room for the grown-ups to spread out and the children to run around; all with the beautiful backdrop of the Dentelles de Montmirail. This ridge of jagged limestone peaks dominates the landscape for miles around and offers some challenging walking routes. For a gentler way to explore the area, you can tour the many historic villages within a 10-20 minute drive of Hameau des Anges; Séguret sits at the foot of the Dentelles in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône vineyards, while Vaison-la-Romaine is a historic town with extensive Roman ruins, good restaurants, markets and of course, wineries. The world-renowned Roman ruins at Orange are just 23km away, so you can get there nice and early and steal a march on the summer crowds.

Sleeping up to nine in the main house, Hameau des Anges makes a relaxing base for two families, with the added benefit of the annexe room ideal for an accompanying nanny or teenage children.

The local area

The heart of the northern Vaucluse has been for centuries the charming market town of Vaison-la-Romaine, a luxurious patrician resort in Roman times whose ruins and museums provide the earliest evidence of a fine Provençal lifestyle. The beautiful landscapes around Vaison, dominated by the mighty bulk of Mont Ventoux and the filigree limestone formations of the Dentelles de Montmirail, are dotted with small delightful villages, each with its unique charm and attraction. Séguret, one of the several 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' in the area, is overlooked by the ruins of its feudal château, and nearby former Knights Templar commanderie Roaix produces a fine Côtes-de-Rhône Villages. Malaucène boasts remnants from Roman times, as well as Gallic and medieval traces. Sablet is overlooked by its 12th-century Eglise-St-Nazaire and its 14th-century ramparts, and Puyméras, just northeast of Vaison, offers lovely views over lavender fields from the ruined château at the top of the village.

For a group of friends or a family holiday we cannot recommend Hameau des Anges highly enough. In a great location surrounded by vineyards - it’s a perfect spot. The outdoor kitchen/dining/bbq & living area is wonderful and the huge pool the best we have ever experienced at a villa. If you are self catering the kitchen can at times feel crowded with not quite enough work surface space - but the outdoor kitchen area more than makes up for this. And when in Provence .. cook outside! The indoor salons and dining room are more than spacious, beautifully designed and an invitation to relax or slumber after a delicious glass of wine. We had such a happy and memorable family holiday for us all - aged from eight to eighty! .

Georgina Sayer, July 2023

This house is just heaven on earth.

Dominique Ryder, July 2022

The villa was outstanding. Elegantly decorated with all of needs catered for including gym equipment, pool inflatables, changes of towels and linen. A particular help was Sarah from Simpson Travel who texted us on our way there to give us her mobile (very reassuring) and Armand the caretaker who did everything to make is welcome and was on hand at all times. It was superb.

Anne Milton, June 2022

Having rented in France and Italy every summer for over 20 years, this was our first booking with Simpson Travel and I was very impressed – particularly given all the Covid-19 complications. The family said Hameau des Anges was the best and they would love to go back, which is high praise from quite a ‘picky’ group! Vaucluse has always been one of my favourite areas and the house was a perfect base as everyone could do as much – or as little – as they wanted! So the energetic went to vineyards, markets and cycled for miles, while others made the most of the pool and garden.

The Roberts party, July 2020

Our favourite holiday villa to date. Absolutely stunning house in beautiful grounds.

Mr Horley, August 2019

Hameau des Anges is a great villa with amazing grounds in a wonderful location. It’s an excellent place for a family holiday.

Edward, June 2018

Fabulous! We loved it!

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.

The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.

A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.

This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
