El Cortijo is one of three beautifully restored individual fincas located just a 15 to 20-minute walk from Búger. Designed with immaculate taste by the enterprising owner, this is a skillful interpretation of modern farmhouse style, offering all the contemporary comfort you’d expect alongside more traditional elements that lend it real character.

Charming as the interiors may be, the real appeal here is the outdoor space, which includes a bougainvillea-draped lounge/dining area and plenty of open lawn space. You can keep an eye on the kids from the shade of the terrace or join them in the fabulous free-form pool, with beach-style access making it easier for little ones taking their first tentative steps into the water. Teenagers might like to install themselves in the guest annexe, which has a futon-style bed on a mezzanine (limited headroom) and its own spacious living area as well as shower room. Alternatively, the main house would make a great base for two couples, thanks to its high levels of privacy and convenient location within walking distance of local restaurants.

Nearby Búger is one of our favourite villages. It’s the sort of place where kids still play out in the street while their parents sit in doorways and chat, and is home to a weekly market and a couple of restaurants specialising in hearty island food. For a more sophisticated choice you can pop over to Sa Pobla, renowned as having some of the best cuisine on the island, with the added benefit of a train station for a super-easy day trip into the capital Palma. The old towns of Pollença and Alcúdia are just a 15 to 20-minute drive away and the nearby beaches of Port de Pollença, Alcúdia and Playa de Muro are easily reached by car.

El Cortijo sits with two further individual properties (the others being Casa Piedra and El Refugio) on a private country estate close to Búger. Each is fully independent from the others, though they may be booked together to accommodate a large group.
