The Simpson Travel Book Club with Kate Mosse

Recommended reads to complement your holiday, from bestselling author Kate Mosse.

"It’s a great pleasure to be curating the first-ever choices for the Simpson Travel Book Club. As a devoted Simpson Traveller, any holiday begins at the moment I start to pack the books that will keep me company - on Crete, in a village of the Luberon or southern Italy, on Mallorca or the Ile de Ré. Add to that the one or two ‘just-in-case’ reads flung hastily into a bag at the airport or Eurostar terminal, it’s books that make a holiday something to remember.

The key to holiday reading is balance – it’s not supposed to be work, or a chore, but rather a chance to catch up on all the reading you never have time for at home. So, don’t pack books you ‘should’ have read, or all beach reads, or only prize winners and hefty biographies of great women and men. Rather, take a mixture of light and serious, classics and staples, familiar friends and new releases.

All Simpson guests will receive our month-by-month selection of titles for 2024, books to entertain, thrill, excite, educate, move, enjoy and share: fiction and non-fiction, different genres, different nationalities, different settings, classics and just-published. And, as a writer inspired by landscape and by place – particularly the beautiful landscape of Languedoc – I’ve thrown in a few additional destination-specific suggestions that will bring to life the countryside through which you’re walking: endless skies and pink horizons, sun, sea and sand, pine forests and mountains, there’s a perfect book for everyone.

Enjoy! "
