Why Visit Zakynthos?

With a name rooted in the native hyacinth, and known in history as The Garden of the Levant, this beautiful place is still prized for its scenery. Yet, though popular in small parts, the island as a whole – with all its natural colours, contrasts and culture – is little known to tourists. Even today holidays in Zakynthos, also known as Zante, are as much for lovers of nature, the arts and history, as for the family seeking a beach break with a touch of luxury.

Roads meander through sparsely populated pinewoods and vineyards, and link a landscape of almond, cypress, and citrus groves; walks amble past monasteries, white-washed chapels and forgotten Venetian ruins.

Most Greek apartments and villas in Zakynthos lie on the southern peninsula of Vassilikos, which enjoys magnificent seacapes, including the fine sands and beaches of Gerakas Bay, declared a conservation area.

Wonderful Natural and Culture

If the cottages and larger villas around Gerakas are ideal for a family beach holiday others – in Tsilivi Bay, for example – are ideally located to appreciate the greenness and culture of the island: the exhibitions and concerts at Skalia, the monastery at Dermatousa and six centuries of Venetian tradition which have influenced the dialect and music over the centuries, as much as the architecture – not to mention the famous local wine and cuisine .
