We loved Gardenia Cottage - a perfect hideaway for two people. We never got tired of the views and found the location perfect. Although the weather was a little unpredictable at the end of the season, we saw our fair share of sunshine. Many thanks to Marcia for all her help and advise and to Adonis for his kind gifts!Mr Lambert - September 2016
We have had a wonderful week in a beautiful, quirky cottage. What can you say about the views other than 'wow'! We did venture out of the cottage to Ag Ioannis and it's definitely worth the visit even if like us you have never seen Mamma Mia. Favourite beach for us was Limonari, only a fifteen minute drive away. Our favourite restaurant was Rodi, a secluded courtyard restaurant away from the harbour. Excellent food and friendly staff. As for Marcia, what she doesn't know about the island is not worth knowing. Adonis is a star and was there if you needed him. Thank you all!Mr Roberts - September 2016
What a wonderful cottage - amazing views and peaceful setting. Special thanks to Adonis for showing us the way here and to Marcia who was so helpful with all her local knowledge. We made surer of the Heather Parsons Trail book kindly left on the bookshelf. Enjoyed seeing lots of birds. Saw plenty of the island by car and saw many beautiful views but I have to say the view from the terrace of Gardenia Cottage takes the breath away! Well done Simpson for finding another little gem!Mr Jenner - September 2016
We have had the best time! Thank you Adonis and family and thank you Marcia! We followed your recommendations to some delicious meals. We recommend the coast road to Glossa: don't believe the map which indicates a 'red' road in land - it becomes a 'white' forestry track. Agnanti is indeed a great place to eat as all have said. All in all a lovely island, lovely people, lovely time!Mrs Bradley - August 2016
The rhythm of life here in this beautiful villa. A wake to the rising sun and the sound of cockerels announcing the day; coffee on the top of the balcony - bliss watching everything come to life; the 'blonde' hen (can't call her pale brown, she is far too beautiful) popping over to spend the day. Decisions, decisions... Shall we go to Limonari until lunchtime or go to Elios for the afternoon and watch the sunset? More often than not the hours tick by and the little hen hops back as dusk. Then it's wine time and supper. Wonderful long lunch at Agnanti in Glossa and dinner at Rodi's. We are far too relaxed! Thank you Marcia for everything and to Jane and Janet at Skiathos. Hope to see you all at 2017!Mr Gayler - August 2016
This is the fifth year we have used Simpson for our summer holiday and will happy to do so in the future.Mr Gayler - August 2016
Totally unforgettable stay in beautiful and charming Gardenia Cottage. Loved exploring the island alongside enjoying plenty of lazy 'villa days'. Our favourite beaches are Limnonari and Stafilos; favourite restaurants - Annas, Zoupa, Olivo and Agnanti; favourite Mamma Mia moments - climbing the 200 steps up to Ag Ioannis to ring the bell! Thank you Simpson Travel!Mr Scott - July 2016
We have had the most fabulous time! Thank you Simpson Travel but thank you also to Marcia, you have been amazing - friendly, professional, knowledgeable and generous with your time. Also, an extra special thank you to Adonis for being a great host! The holiday has been so relaxing - just what we wanted and needed. We have spent a lot of time just engaging the beautiful views and the peacefulness of being away from everything. We have really enjoyed the boat trip on the 'Ena' and can definitely recommend Perivoli restaurant. Beautiful garden, delicious food, a little oasis in the middle of Skopelos. It's our first holiday with Simpson but it will definitely not be our last. We are returning refreshed and rejuvenated!Mr Crawford - July 2016
Just having our final pre-dinner drinks by the pool in the daily glorious light, watching the birds swooping down to drink from the water. This is a delightful and very individual house, as are the owners and wonderful Marcia. We dined at Agnanti in the evening, when the view from the terrace is spectacular. We have driven to Panormos and Mamma Mia beaches, and from Glossa to Agios Ioannis and climbed the rock to visit the exquisite church of cinematic fame. Finally, do visit the nearby restaurant Fotinis - the food is delicious! Fourth holiday with Simpson: more to come!Mr Freedman - June 2016
A superb holiday, encompassing magical sights, unspoiled, quiet beaches and stunning views from the wonderful. long walks. If you have the correct kit (don't attempt without walking boots, etc), the walking tracks T1-5 are very well marked and afford spectacular, panoramic views of the island. Explore the less frequented beaches. In terms of restaurants. Agnanti in Glossa is not to be missed. Marcia's local knowledge is excellent. Agnontas beach is beautiful and the taverna staff there are very welcoming. Adonis and Elva are caring and thoughtful hosts whose detailed consideration is evident throughout the villa. All in all, a wonderful holiday, seamlessly managed by both London and local staff. Thanks, especially to the lovely Marcia!Mrs Wells - June 2016
This was our first holiday with Simpson Travel - everything was very well organised, the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. The moment we arrived at Skopelos and Gardenia Cottage we absolutely fell in love with this magical place. So peaceful and relaxing with stunning views, great weather, quirky house and beautiful gardens - and the warmest welcime imagineable by the charming owners Antonis and Elva - made this a very special holiday experience indeed.Mrs Hischer - May 2016
The moment we arrived at Gardenia Cottafe we fell in love with this magical place. The quirky house, the beautiful garden, the stunning views and the most welcoming hosts! Antonis and Elva were so warm and genuine and spoilt us with goodies from their garden. Skopelos is such a beautiful island: peaceful, great walks, stunning scenery and nice private beaches. We had some great food. We loved sitting on the terrace, watching the butterflies dancing around the gardens. This was our first holiday with Simpson Travel - it was such a great experience! Marcia was a lovely and knowledgeable rep. Our only regret was that we were only booked for one week. We usually don't holiday in the same destination twice. With Gardenia Cottage in Skopelos we are happy to make an exception!Mr Hischer - May 2016
Villa Gardenia and Skopelos - no doubt you as a prospective customer have come across this Villa, and maybe you are wondering what to expect. Don't delay - the Villa really is a delight, with many outstanding - and sometimes quirky - features! The chickens and ducks next door that mysteriously leave you a plate of eggs during your stay; the amazing quality and variation of light coming across the bay from Alonissos and across the infinity pool. And Skopelos as an island is also a delight, green and forested; quality restaurants; occasional hints of film (Mamma Mia!); easy driving with wonderful views around the gulf. So, before you leave this review, and this page, and Simpson's site, think - do you really want to end up in a slick soulless run-of-the-mill villa jammed in with many others, or do you want to sit in the quietness of an evening, or the clear coolness of a morning, looking across the blue sea towards dawn or dusk, above a wild flower meadow and olive trees.......Mr Cropp - May 2016
Villa Gardenia has been an absolute delight. Skopelos has some really great places and restaurants. Top rating is the drive up to the west coast to Glossa and lunch at Agnanti, followed by a visit to Agios Ioannis. In Skopelos we found the Muses a very pleasant lunch stop. But most of all, we enjoyed Gardenia Cottage - it's a little gem!Mr Cropp - May 2016
Thank you Simpson Travel and Marcia! We have had wonderful two weeks! Gardenia Cottage fulfilled our expectations and more! Our recommendations are go where you like the look of. We found good food in the places which were not mentioned so widely too. Marcia deserves a special mention for her efforts and advice. We had a lovely day out on the glass bottom boat. Hopefully we will be back!Mr Heywood - September 2015
Our fourth occasion we have travelled to Skopelos with Simpsons and have enjoyed the service, the detailed accuracy of the villa description, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Skopelos island has the perfect blend of spectacular scenery, peaceful beaches and a local community life with restaurants to cater for all tastes.Mr Gayler - September 2015
Wonderful and totally relaxing two weeks. Thank you Marcia for recommending Gardenia Cottage. The charm, simplicity and the views - amazing! Adonis and Elva have looked after us so well! Thank you!Mr Gayler - September 2015
What an amazing week - non stop sunshine, the best hosts ever and an excellent rep! Thank you Adonis and Elva for making us feel extremely welcome! As we enjoy authentic Greek food, we loved some of the rustic, 'non commercial' restaurants on the harbour front and also Taverna Peparithos half way down to the town. Thank you Simpson Travel - another 5 star winner!Mrs Barnes-Wehrle - August 2015
The pictures on the Simpson Travel website indicated something special but did not exaggerate. The work and attention to detail that Adonis and Elva have put into the property, together with their generosity to their guests, creates one of the best villas that we have enjoyed. Marcia was most friendly and helpful, and we have seen so many beaches, points of interest and eateries, that have been much enjoyed. Agnanti and Anna's have given us the best meals. We truly enjoyed Gardenia Cottage and Skopelos!Mr Seed - August 2015
Gardenia Cottage was the best villa we have ever stayed in, the views are spectacular and the accommodation very comfortable. Marcia, the local rep, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The owners were friendly, welcoming and very generous with their gifts of eggs, pastries and other local produce. The island has some lovely beaches and is small enough to drive from one end to the other in about an hour but large enough to get way from the crowds at the more popular locations. Another wonderful holiday from Simpson's!Mr Ellis - August 2015
A great quirky villa with every comfort, the best views and a welcome breeze. Adonis and Elva were most welcoming. Marcia gave us great tips and was most helpful. Best restaurants we found in Skopelos Town - Anna's, To Rodi, Alexander Taverna and Zoupa. Other restaurants are Agnanti Taverna in Glossa (it's a must) and Pavlos in Agnondas for fresh fish. Best swim - in Agnondas off the unmade road to the Three trees. It's worth the bumpy ride! We have enjoyed the most relaxing two weeks.Mrs Owen - July 2015
Gardenia Cottage proved to be a wonderful location for a thoroughly relaxing holiday - fabulous views, very spacious and comfortable, peaceful and yet also only ten minutes by car from all the amenities of Skopelos town. Adonis and Elva are brilliant hands-on hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Well done once again to Simpson Travel - our ninth holiday with you proved to be every bit as good as all the previous ones!Mrs Bolton - June 2015
This was our ninth holiday with Simpson Travel and as always we would give them top marks from start to finish. It was great to see Marcia again and she was so friendly and knowledgeable as always. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay in this beautiful spot and feel that our batteries have had a much needed recharge. Gardenia Cottage is lovely - comfortable and very spacious for two people. Adonis and Elva have been great hosts and so kind. Eating out - in Skopelos we liked Anna's, To Rodi, Perivoli and Olivo. Try to get up to Glossa for lunch or dinner at Agnanti Taverna - it's superb and really worth the trip. Thank you Simpson for another great holiday. I am sure we will soon be planning the next one!Mr Bolton - June 2015
The first word I used when we arrived was 'Wow'! Amazing villa, the views, the sounds, the feeling of happiness. A beautiful place to have a lovely relaxing holiday. Adonis and Elva made us feel so welcome. The rep Marcia is so friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future. A wonderful location for our anniversary!Mr Tate - June 2015
What a lovely villa, wonderful location, delightful hosts in Adonis and Ewa and family. So peaceful and relaxing here, everyone is friendly. Beautiful views around the island.Mr Torbett - June 2015
What a lovely villa. Wonderful location, delightful hosts. So peaceful and relaxing, and everyone is so friendly. Beautiful views around the island, good food at Aramis Taverna in Loutraki and Korali in Agnontas. We enjoyed sitting by the sea and watch the boats or swim. This is out second trip with Simpson Travel and the quality is as good as the first. Marcia is a lovely and knowledgeable host.Mr Torbett - June 2015
This is the first time we have booked a Simpson's holiday and can truly say it exceeded our expectation and wouldn't hesitate to use you again.Miss Bastida Gil - July 2014
A thoroughly relaxing break in delightful accommodation with a real "wow" factor - a well appointed and quirky house in a beautiful location with stunning views and a friendly welcome.Mr Bagnall - June 2014
Gardina Cottage was even better that we expected and Adonis & Elva, the owners, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Skopelos is wonderfully unspoiled and excellent for a relaxing holiday.. Thanks also to Marcia & Simpsons for ensuring everything went smoothly.Mrs Oakley - May 2014

INCLUDED IN YOUR CAR HIRE
- Unlimited mileage
- Local taxes and compulsory insurance
- Two main drivers. Please note that there is a minimum age for drivers (minimum ages vary from 21 to 25 and can be advised at the time of booking) although there is no maximum age limit. Drivers must hold a British/EU Driver’s Licence or International Driver’s Licence, held for at least 2 years. You will not be able to hire a car without your original, valid Driver’s Licence which you must carry at all times when you are driving.
Please note that in most cases you will need to pay an ‘excess’ in the event of theft or damage to your hire car, regardless of blame. As amounts and conditions vary throughout Greece, please ensure you ask for full details at collection, before you sign your car hire contract. The excess charge ranges from €300 to €1,000 dependent on your destination. Where an ‘excess’ applies, it may be possible to purchase extra insurance locally, which reduces or cancels the ‘excess.’
The insurance with or without the excess will not cover:
- Tyres, including puncture repairs
- Loss of or damage to car keys (and costs incurred due to this, for example towing and replacement keys, etc.)
- Windscreen, wing mirrors or undercarriage (you should not drive off-road)
- Interior of car is also not covered in Corfu and Paxos
- Personal Accident Insurance (this should be covered by your personal travel insurance)
- Any damage, loss, accident, theft, attempted theft, etc. caused by your own negligence, for example, driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful driving, driving off-road, using wrong type of fuel, unlocked doors, apparent personal effects, etc.
CAR HIRE DEPOSIT
The car hire agents will require you to lodge a credit card deposit when you collect your car. No money will be taken if you return the undamaged car at the correct time with the correct amount of fuel and not requiring cleaning.
Child and baby seats (forward facing seats only are available) can be provided if booked at least 2 weeks prior to your departure and are charged at £2 per day. Please remember to specify the age of the child. Local car hire and Simpson Travel staff are not authorised to install the child seats and as style and installation may differ to those in the UK, you may prefer to bring your own child seat for your own peace of mind.
Please refer to the information at the top of the page for details of the transfers included in the cost of your holiday. Taxis are licensed and insured to carry up to 4 passengers. Therefore, if there are 4 passengers and an infant then 2 taxis are needed and we will provide you with a separate quotation. If you are travelling with young children or babies, child seats are not provided for any vehicles used for transfers. For your own peace of mind, we recommend that you bring your own although there is no guarantee that local taxi companies will allow the use of child seats. Please note that the transfer times included in our accommodation details are approximate estimates only and do not include any waiting time.
Although we pre-arrange and book your ferry crossings in advance, poor weather or ferry cancellations may disrupt the schedules. In most cases, when you arrive at the port you will have to wait a certain amount of time for your onward boat transfer. If your flight experiences delays and you miss your pre-booked boat transfer, we will then book you onto the next available boat. If you miss the last ferry due to a flight delay or cancellation due to poor weather, it may be necessary for you to overnight at the port and then take the ferry the following morning.
ACCOMMODATION AND USEFUL INFORMATION
Air-conditioning and heating
We have indicated in the property descriptions which accommodation has air-conditioning included in the holiday price. Heating is available in some of our properties during the low season weeks, which is normally included in the holiday price.
Animals and wildlife
As in all rural communities, indigenous animals are an essential part of the way of life. The braying of a donkey, crow of a cockerel or the barking of a dog is not a complaint that receives much sympathy from the locals! Care should be taken to minimise the presence of insects and animals in your accommodation. Keep surfaces clean, dispose of refuse regularly and ensure that food is not left uncovered. Cats and dogs are often resident where an owner or manager lives on the property. If you are allergic to cats and/or dogs please ensure that you check the suitability of your chosen accommodation with us prior to confirming your booking.
We have specified if a barbecue is available at your accommodation. Please note that often in summer, due to the hot weather, use of your barbecue may not be allowed and/or strict rules for its use may apply. The local or national government reserves the right to introduce new rulings at any time, often with little prior notice, prohibiting the use of barbecues to reduce the risk of fires. Where a barbecue is not provided, it is usually because the surroundings are considered a fire risk or inappropriate for the use of barbecues.
We provide Simpson Travel beach/pool towels in all our self-catering properties and Simpson Hotels, and these are normally laundered weekly.
Please note that a double bed could be two single beds placed together. Double beds usually measure 140cm x 190cm and single beds 80/90cm x 190cm. If you are booking a hotel room, please let us know your room preference (double or twin). Although we will make every effort to convey your request to the hotel, we cannot guarantee your preference will be available.
Check-in and check-out
You will usually be able to occupy your villa, apartment or hotel after 4pm and you must vacate it on the day of departure by 10am and 9:30am in western Crete.
Self-catering accommodation is cleaned a minimum of twice a week (including arrival day) and some accommodation may be cleaned more often. Cleaning usually consists of a sweep, mop, bathroom and kitchen tidy up. (N.B. Simpson Secret, Anti Paxos is cleaned once a week on changeover day.)
Distances and timings
Please note that all walking and driving times stated are approximate estimates only. Transfer times are also approximate estimates only and do not include any waiting time.
Hotel bookings with half-board include dinner, which is usually a fixed menu with or without a choice of dishes. In some hotels, you may take your half-board meal at lunchtime.
Health and safety
Simpson Travel is committed to raising the standards of health and safety throughout all our destinations. Our guests’ safety and wellbeing is of the highest importance to us. However, please note that since many of our properties are private homes, it is not always possible to meet the same exacting standards as in the UK. In your accommodation we will provide any necessary health and safety information. We ask you to familiarise yourself with this information and the property on arrival, particularly when travelling with children, and to raise any concerns with your local representative.
In some properties a baby monitor has been provided and to the best of our knowledge it is operating correctly but it is vital that you check regularly that the device is operating to your satisfaction. We strongly advise against relying on the baby monitor in case of malfunction. Simpson Travel cannot be held liable for any malfunction of the baby monitor and the use of the device is entirely at your own risk.
Internet access and connection
If a property offers wifi or internet access, the type of connection may vary. Additionally, the signal could be intermittent at times and may not be available in all areas of the property. There may be a charge for internet use in some properties.
Linen and laundry
Bed and bathroom linen is provided and usually laundered twice weekly. For your convenience some of our properties have a washing machine.
Noise and building works
Traffic, farm work, roadwork, animals and other sounds form part of everyday life, however, what constitutes ‘noise’ to one person may not be a problem for another. Please let us know if you have any special needs regarding this. Occasionally, building work is unavoidable as we do not control such work and may not know about it in advance. Whenever possible, we will notify you of any work that we believe may affect your holiday.
Only guests named on your invoice are entitled to occupy the accommodation.
Throughout Greece, especially in the older houses, the plumbing system is not designed to have items flushed down the lavatory. Where necessary, bins are provided in all bathrooms.
We cannot guarantee that a full selection of satellite channels will be available. Channels in English may be very limited and these are often only CNN or BBC World.
Some facilities are subject to weather conditions and the general season, for example swimming pools, restaurant terraces, pool bars, local restaurants, and they may be limited or unavailable at the beginning or end of the season. Please do not hesitate to check with us, should a particular facility be a necessity to you.
Security and cleaning deposits
For self-catering properties, we require you to lodge a security deposit against any breakages, damage, losses, extra cleaning or outstanding accounts, which you may have incurred during your stay and/or due to your negligence. This should be provided by credit or debit card at the time of booking by providing authorisation for us to deduct (within 14 days of your return home) any advised charges from your card. Most of our properties are the owners’ personal homes and repairs, replacements and extra cleaning can be very expensive, so we do ask you to take care in order to avoid incurring extra costs.
Swimming pool details are given on our website. Pool dimensions are approximate only and, unless specified otherwise, pools are freshwater and unheated. In Paxos most pools are filled using ‘sweet water’, which is generally a mix of well water (with some salt content) and fresh water. Dates when pools are operational are subject to the prevailing weather conditions at the time of opening and closing and we cannot be held responsible if poor weather means the pool is opened later, or is closed earlier in the season.
Upon arrival at your accommodation, we kindly ask you to acquaint yourselves with the pool’s safety and hygiene rules. Very few pools have covers, fencing or life rings, so children must be supervised at all times. Some pools are ‘infinity pools’ which have an exposed pool edge with an unprotected drop. This maximises views and is an attractive feature of the pool. We recommend that children are supervised and that you do not sit, lean or walk on the unprotected edge.
Whilst the owners or staff of some properties may live on site and tend to the grounds, they are aware that you value your privacy, and will do their best not to intrude. We do ask you, however, to allow them reasonable access to the property so that they can maintain the grounds and keep them in good order.
We offer a welcome pack in all our self-catering accommodation consisting of a small selection of staple items and local produce. This usually includes the following complimentary items: coffee, tea bags, milk, bottled water, fruit juice, bread, butter/margarine, crisps, white wine, local beers, tonic, pasta, pasta sauce, yoghurt, honey, regional biscuits, washing powder, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing-up sponge, salt and pepper, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, mixed herbs and toilet paper.
