Standing on a wide hilltop, rising between two gorges, Villa Argiro, one of three detached private villas with views encompassing the diverse beauty of Crete and perfectly positioned for exploring both the north and south coasts. The area enjoys abundant wildlife and is a birdwatcher’s paradise with eagles soaring majestically overhead to the sound of birdsong, goat bells and cicadas in the wild broom.
The setting is blissfully rural, yet the welcoming owners, Dimitris and Sini, furnished Villa Argiro to the highest standards. The nearest village, Prasses, a quintessentially Cretan hamlet of great charm, has a simple kafenion and is just a few minutes away. In contrast, Rethymnon has a wide range of shops and restaurants and its narrow streets hide numerous fragments of Crete's colourful past: a castle, 16th Century mansions, old mosques and a marvellous carved fountain.

On our latest holiday to Crete the level of service and quality of accommodation were all excellent, as ever with Simpson Travel. The only surprise is that they continue to deliver - trip, after trip, after trip, and make it so easy to have an interesting and relaxing holiday.
Mrs Ronaldson - September 2017
The attention to detail in the villa and smooth transfer experience at airport with car hire made this a wonderful holiday.
Mrs Peters - September 2017
A lovely villa in a beautiful setting combined with the hospitality and generosity of Siny the villa owner and her family was a great recipe for another fabulous holiday. Ray Pattenden is a credit to Simpsons.... a great representative.
Mrs Russell – July 2017
We can highly recommend Villa Argiro with it's stunning view and lovely owners Sinni and Dimitri who made our stay extra special. Sinni's cheese pies and moussaka are superb! Also huge thanks as always to the wonderful Ray and Harvey for all their help and advice. We enjoyed it so much we are thinking of rebooking for next year.
Mrs Rowland – September 2016
This is the first time with Simpson and we will be using you again. We go on a villa holiday every year and this was by far the best yet. Thoughtful and run very smooth by people who care and know what they are talking about.
Mr Knight – August 2016
Our first visit to Crete – we will definitely return! We have probably visited most of the sites in Rethymno prefecture and loved them all. Thank you Sini for the use of your villa plus your great hospitality.
Beryl and John Phillips – May 2016
Villa Argiro is in a spectacular location, perched on a ridge overlooking a deep gorge on one side and a fertile valley on the other, yet in easy reach of the local village and a short drive from an excellent bakery and good supermarkets. The views stretch from the mountains on one side, to the north coast a few miles away, The various routes to the south of Crete and its lovely beaches go through stunning scenery and some incredible narrow gorges. Reassuringly, the roads across the mountain passes are all very good. There are many places of interest to visit, from the fortress at Rethymnon and the monastery at Arkadi, to the very moving Souda Bay War Cemetery and Minoan archaeological sites such as Phaistos. After a long day out, Villa Argiro, with its lovely pool, was always a pleasure to return to.
Mr Mackenzie – October 2015
We have enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing two weeks here at Villa Argiro - perfect for celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Loved watching the Swallows at dusk dipping into the pool for a drink, the birds climbing the thermals, and listening to the cicadas and the tinkling goat bells. You will find it hard to drag yourself away from the villa with its beckoning pool and comforts of relaxing in the sun. Huge thanks to Sini and Dimitri for their care and hospitality. Thanks to Ray for all his help and Simpson for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful villa. Above all ... enjoy!
Jim and Ann Walker – September 2015
This was our second Simpson holiday and again we were impressed by the high standards and efficiency. Our villa this year was delightful and exactly as described. The hire car was excellent. Villa cleanliness and presentation were superb. Stunning views from the villa and good walking locally. Altogether a lovely spot and a great holiday.
Mr Carter – August 2015
Simpson Travel... No worries!
Mr Hodgson – August 2015
Despite the press reports on Greece before we left for our holiday we carried on regardless, and arrived in Crete to find business as usual - friendly people, superb accommodation, glorious weather and delicious food.
Mrs Ronaldson – July 2015
They are the only independent travel agents that have everything you could wish for. They take customer service to a new level. It is our first time using Simpson and we will be looking no further when it comes to organising our future holidays. Thank you so much for everything
Mr Green – June 2015
Our choice of Greek properties is as diverse as the islands themselves, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.
* For further clarification on Facilities and Amenities, please view the 'Details' tab for each property or speak to one of our experienced sales consultants.
As the birthplace of Zeus, Central Crete carries a certain historic and spiritual gravitas. Knossos, the Minoan Bronze Age palace, steals the show, but there are many other smaller archaeological sites, churches and towns to cast you back in time. However, with harbourside dining, beautiful beaches, mountain villages and vibrant summer festivals, the here and now also has a lot to offer. And Rethymno, which has clung on to much of its authentic beauty and charm, is a welcome addition to your island experience.
