Meganissi has rapidly established itself as a real Simpson Travel favourite, thanks to its signature relaxed pace and authentic charm that have all but disappeared from many of the larger Greek islands. Conscious of the need to protect this delightful landscape, the locals also seem to have perfected the knack of building traditional stone houses with smart contemporary interiors, and Villa Mentes is a fine new example of the style.
The house is one of a trio of villas, each with its own private pool and terrace, overlooking Ambelaki Bay in the north of the island. You can sit here all day long and watch the yachts coming and going in the bay, but the real beauty of this spot is that it’s walking distance from Vathy. The village sits at the head of a deep natural inlet, a magnet for sailing boats in the summer months, and therefore well provided with cafés and tavernas. If you get here at the right time you can get fish straight from the waterside, but if you miss the boat this is still a wonderful spot to people watch and take a lesson from the locals in the art of easy living. Katomeri, with its very traditional architecture and local tavernas is just a couple of minutes away by car, and the pretty beach of Fanari is only a five minute drive.
Villa Mentes sits separately in a small cluster of neighbouring villas that includes Villa Taphian and Villa Akoni, which are identical in style and layout.

Another super trip to Meganissi. A real paradise island. Our concierge, Maria, was very efficient and we will be back for a third visit next year.
This was our first visit to Meganissi, six of us all together. We loved returning to Greece after many years break and have found Meganissi at last. We all agreed it is worth a return trip, partly because it took a few days to find everything and partly because it still feels like the old Greece we remember from the 70s and 80s.
Our second visit to Meganissi in this collection of three villas. Another lovely time had by all and a total chill. As before, just in a perfect position to wander down into Vathy for the restaurants and bars.
Simpson Travel again provided the perfect holiday with the whole team from initial reservation to departure arrangements being extremely professional yet personable at all stages. Rania Mazi made sure that the whole holiday was truly relaxing always providing a calm happy presence.Thank you to the whole team we look forward to returning next year.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Mentes this summer. The house was ideally located just a short stroll into Vathy where there’s a good selection of bars, restaurants and super markets. The house itself is great - perfectly kitted out with a lovely view from the outside terrace area and pool. Thanks to Simpson for recommending the location and Villa - we had a fantastic holiday!
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday booked for the third time with Simpson Travel. The service was excellent and the villa was beautiful and of a very high standard. Flights/ connections/ people in the resort were all very friendly and efficient. We had a very relaxing week; just wish it had been for longer.
We spent two weeks at the Villa Mentes in Meganissi. It was our second trip here as our one week holiday in 2020 just wasn't enough! The villa is in glorious location overlooking Abelaki Bay with a quick 5 minute walk down into the lovely fishing port of Vathy. We spent most of our days lazing by the pool or at the nearby Fanari Beach with its crystal clear water, comfortable sun loungers and a very convenient beach bar. We completed all of the walks in Guest Book all of which had amazing views at every point. It was great fun walking into Vathy in the evening, having a pre-dinner drink and watching the yachts sail by and then eating at one of the many reasonably priced restaurants. We didn't have a bad meal there. We have booked our holidays through Simpson Travel for many years - enjoying the ease of booking, overall great standard of service and above all, trust that Simpson always choose the best locations in the area. We have already booked our trip for next year.
We have just returned from two weeks on Meganissi which Simpson rearranged for us and extended it by a week while we were there. The local support by Rania Mazi was really great – sorting any little issues out without any fuss as well as extending our stay. Rania arranged our pre-return COVID testing in a very clear organised manner and before we travelled the office support was great – all made simple with clear advice on managing flights and all the COVID administration. We look forward to returning to Meganissi with Simpson in August with family and grandchildren that had to be deferred from last year.
Given that we were due to fly to Chania and the FCO banned all but essential travel to Crete due to Covid-19 at 4.30pm the previous day, getting to Meganissi five days later was a miracle and was solely due to the very considerable efforts of Holly working remotely at home. This was our second visit to the island and it didn't let us down. The transfer was just what we expected – private taxi to the port and a fast, very pleasant and comfortable water taxi to Vathy where Rania and Rebecca were waiting to welcome us. The villa was immaculate and our 2-week stay very restful and enjoyable. Rania was very helpful throughout and couldn't do enough for us. The transfer back to the airport worked like clockwork. Now back in the UK and already booked for next year. A huge thank you to everyone at Simpson who made our holiday so special.
Delighted to get away despite all the uncertainty with air bridges and threats of quarantine! And what a delight awaited us in beautiful, unspoilt Meganissi! If you want to step back in time to a place that is quaint, unhurried, charmingly, untouched by modern amenities then Meganissi is the place! Villa Mentes is set 5 minutes’ walk from Vathy with stunning views across the bay out to sea! It’s our first time booking with Simpson (but certainly not the last). Professional and extremely efficient from the time of booking and throughout. Nothing was too much trouble and Rania (in Meganisi) is a credit to the business, ensuring everything runs smoothly with lots of ideas to help make the holiday perfect!

We are very fortunate to have enjoyed five consecutive holidays with Simpson and each time the villa has been exactly as billed and each time the product and service has been excellent and each holiday has been precious and really delightful. Reliable quality, delivered by enthusiastic staff which is all we ask for.
We came back to Meganissi after eight years, and it was every bit as beautiful as we remembered. Our villa was in a perfect spot overlooking the beautiful Abelaki Bay and the short walk to Vathy was faultless. I will certainly consider Simpson Travel again and have already recommended them to friends.
Had a lovely holiday staying at Villa Mentes overlooking the beautiful bay. Rebecca and Harris have been so helpful and understanding. Simpson Travel is so lucky to have such a charming family to look after us. We enjoyed spending time looking around the island, spending time on the beach and swimming in the sea and loved spending time around the pool at the villa.

We cannot wait to go back again and perhaps combine with another location for a longer stay as a week just isn't long enough.
We have had a lovely week. Plenty of (really) hot water for showers after either days out or relaxing days by the pool. Boat trip was amazing – we feel very, very lucky to be joined by a pod of dolphins who entertained us for half–an–hour or more. Even if you are not lucky enough to see dolphins, still do the trip – it’s fun! We loved the Rose Garden for evening meals. Rebecca has been great – booked our boat and also our table at Spartochori for the Greek dancing night. Oh what fun! Food was great too! Driving round the island has been a great challenge – who knows where a one–way system will bring you. Fun, fun, fun! All in all a great holiday. Very relaxing but not without so much laughter. Whoever stays next – just relax, eat and enjoy is as much as we have. Wonderful!
This is such a lovely villa overlooking the beautiful bay. Location wise you couldn’t ask for better. A lovely stroll down the lane brings you into Vathy harbour with the lovely tavernas and the array of boats coming in and out of the harbour. This is such a beautiful spot – so tranquil and an idyllic place to stay. Restaurants were very good. We especially enjoyed the Rose Garden (the others were delightful and the fresh fish was excellent!). A big thank you to Rebecca and the Simpson Travel team for arranging such a great holiday. Amazing.

Hard to think of anything that would spoil a trip to Meganissi...a stay at Villa Mentes ensured the likelihood of that happening was even less – fantastic villa! Location is superb and we wanted for nothing. Very envious of whoever is fortunate enough to follow us. This island is very special – this is our second visit and already reserving it for next year. We had the best honeymoon on the beautiful island of Meganissi. From start to finish Simpson Travel were brilliant to deal with and the villa and whole holiday was absolutely perfect, we wouldn't change a thing. We are already plotting how we can go back again soon.

It’s worth a drive to Fanari beach which is a lovely place to spend a few hours, we went to the Reggae bar. We also drove to some other small beaches which were beautiful. It’s basically impossible not to have an amazing time here – everyone we met has been so friendly, the food has been amazing, the island is beautiful. We’ll miss it!

Local life potters along as it’s done for centuries and there are no bustling resorts on Meganissi, just three flower-filled villages – and yet you’ll still see luxury yachts moored in the harbours. Warmly welcoming, this island is also beautifully unspoilt; its coastline dotted with gleaming white beaches, some accessible only by boat or kayak. Inland, the rolling hills make for wonderful walking country, with shady pine forests and spectacular blue seas beyond.
