Holidays will be different this summer. Find out how travel is changing and what we are doing to keep you safe here

NEW FOR 2020

With its beach-house style, seaside colours and tropically inspired décor, Villa Bambou brings a touch of south east Asia to our Aquitaine portfolio, enclosed by lush gardens within strolling distance of the sea.

Bambou is a barefoot sort of a place, where the air is scented by sun-warmed forests and the rhythm of life slows to allow you to appreciate it, whether you’re lounging on the deck or swaying in a hanging basket chair. Its recently refurbished interiors are bright and airy, with two good-sized downstairs doubles and two more simply-styled upstairs rooms ideal for older children or teenagers. Your living space opens onto a west-facing terrace, with plenty of sunny and shady spots on the deck and around the pool. Villa Bambou sits in a row of other similar detached properties, but is not overlooked, with forest to the rear and the Moliets et Maa golf course in front; close to the 2nd hole to be precise! But you don’t need to be a golfing enthusiast to appreciate this unbeatable location; with so much to do in the area Villa Bambou is perfectly suited to families or friends looking for an active holiday in beautiful, natural surroundings. You can walk or bike to the beach and the village, and take your pick from a wide range of sports including tennis, horse-riding and pretty much anything you could ever want to do either on or in the sea. Best of all perhaps, independence-seeking teens have the freedom to move around the area without the need for parental transportation.

Local area

The villa forms part of the Royal Club Aquitaine estate, which is a 750-metre walk from Chênes Lièges, one of the fabulous sandy ocean beaches that characterise the Landes coastline. Chênes Lièges is largely undeveloped, with lifeguards in summer but few other facilities and an appealingly wild feeling, and if you’re after this more natural environment, pay a visit to the Courant d’Huchet nature reserve, a five-minute drive. You’ll find shops, restaurants and more of a resort-y feel at Moliets-Plage (1.5 km by cycle trail or a six-minute drive), popular with novice surfers as the waves are more manageable here. For wave-free paddling or swimming, the Lac de Léon (10km) has its own sandy beaches and numerous watersports options, or you could simply head out on one of the many forest and coastal cycle routes to explore the countryside at a leisurely pace.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Once entirely marshland, this region is now a natural playground of sand dunes and beaches, pine forests and picturesque lakes, where walking and cycling are the most pleasurable ways of getting around. An idyllic meeting of France and California with truly spectacular waves and wide-ranging cuisine, upmarket Hossegor thrives on a surfing culture of stylish, laid-back living. However, in authentic Capbreton next door, and many of the towns and villages no more than an hour away, the historical roots go deeper and there’s much to explore.
