Holidays will be different this summer. Find out how travel is changing and what we are doing to keep you safe here

NEW FOR 2020

Once seen as slightly staid thanks to its aristocratic patrons and genteel atmosphere, Biarritz is the South West’s new capital of cool, chic yet understated and perfectly exemplified by this stunning villa.

Tailor-made for style-conscious teens, Erdiko is brilliantly placed in the heart of town, and you can stroll out to beaches, boutiques, bistros and bars in a matter of minutes from the front door. Architect-designed to make maximum use of the plot, the villa has five en suite bedrooms, an enclosed garden and even a heated ten-metre lap pool finished in trendy slate grey. If you like to keep up (or start!) your exercise habit on holiday, there’s also a small fitness room in the basement, but above all this a place to enjoy time with your favourite people, whether you’re cueing up for a game of pool, sharing a bottle or two on the terrace or heading into the Old Town, the social hub of Biarritz.

Naturally you don’t have to have been born this millennium to appreciate such levels of style and comfort, so we also rate this villa highly for a group of couples or friends looking for a central yet luxurious base. You can while away long summer days by the pool, swim, surf or people-watch on the magnificent Grande Plage, book in for a thalassotherapy treatment or just immerse yourself in the foodie heaven of Les Halles. Whatever your holiday pleasure, you’d be hard pushed to find a more desirable base in Biarritz.

Local area

The villa’s central location means everything is in easy reach, with the nearest restaurant just a three-minute walk away and innumerable eating choices within a kilometre or so’s radius. The beach, town centre shops and Old Town market are all a 10 to 12-minute walk, and if you do decide you’d rather drive, Villa Erdiko has private parking space for two cars, a relative luxury in these highly sought-after streets. Historic Biarritz offers an eclectic combination of sophistication, elegance and surf culture, blessed with magnificent beaches and outstanding golf and spa facilities. For golfers, the Biarritz pass is a smart investment, giving access to Arcangues, Bayonne, Biarritz, Ilbarritz, Moliets and Seignosse courses. Surfers are equally spoilt for choice, with lessons and gear widely available to rent or buy.

Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.

To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Steeped in Basque traditions as old as the hills, this destination reflects a very different take on ‘Frenchness’: one that’s also imbued with the colours of Spain just a short drive away. And if swimming, sunbathing, surfing and sandy beaches don’t appeal, you can try a thalassotherapy spa session, watch an adrenaline-fuelled game of Basque pelote or flex your cultural muscle along the narrow streets of ancient towns and pristine villages where museums, galleries and restaurants are in plentiful supply.
