Everything you need to know about travelling to Turkey in 2021…

Turkey is currently categorised as Red under the traffic light system, meaning that all passengers returning to the UK are required to isolate in a quarantine hotel for 10 days on arrival. From 22 September Turkey will move to the Amber List; fully vaccinated adults and children under 18 will not be required to quarantine on return to the UK. All other passengers will be required to quarantine at home for 10 days on their return to the UK (or 5 days under the Test to Release Scheme). Please see below for testing requirements.

Entry requirements
The use of overhead lockers is not permitted on flights to Turkey. Cabin bags which do not fit under the seat must be placed in the hold. Most airlines are not making a charge for this but please check with your carrier.

Passengers will be required to fill in a form on board their flight giving details of a contact phone number and their address whilst in Turkey; your villa name and regional name should be sufficient.

Testing/Vaccination requirements for entry
Proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours is required to enter Turkey from the UK.

Will I be tested for Covid-19 at the airport?
Temperature checks will be carried out but specific testing for Covid-19 is not required unless you display symptoms. Anyone with a high temperature will automatically be tested for Covid-19.

Will temperature checks be carried out during my stay?
Temperature checks may be carried out before taking transfers, boat trips and entering some shops. Hotels, villa owners and beach clubs may also carry out temperature checks on arrival.

Should I wear a face mask?
Face masks are mandatory on arrival at the airport in Turkey for everyone aged two and over (unless indicated otherwise by a medical professional). They must also be worn for taxi transfers and in all public spaces. A fine of 900 lira may be incurred for failure to comply.

Beaches and Beach Clubs
Beaches in Turkey are operating as usual and many of the beach clubs are open, with sunbeds laid out in accordance with social distancing guidelines and sanitised between uses. Some beach clubs may carry out temperature checks on arrival.

Restaurants are now operating as normal without any restrictions.

Restaurants are now operating as normal without any restrictions.

Shops are open as usual, with numbers limited to allow compliance with social distancing guidelines. Masks are mandatory, hand sanitiser is provided, and temperature checks may be carried out upon entry.

Boats, experiences and activities
Boat trips will be running as usual in Turkey, with numbers reduced to comply with social distancing guidance. Passengers will be temperature checked before boarding, feet will be disinfected, and hand sanitiser will be provided. Regional rules on masks will apply. Some other pre-bookable activities and experiences may carry limitations for 2021; your Simpson Concierge will be able to advise.

Will there be any changes at the villa or hotel?
Please check your property details carefully on our website to see if any changes have been implemented for 2021. All our hygiene and enhanced cleaning measures are detailed on our Simpson Safe hub page.

What should I do if a member of my party is unwell or develops symptoms of Covid-19?
As always, your local Simpson Concierge has everything in place to assist you and should be your first port of call. They can arrange rapid testing, access to medical care if required, and are fully briefed on all procedures in the event that a member of your party tests positive for Covid-19.

Returning to the UK

Turkey will be removed from the red list from 22 September 2021 and the following rules will apply on returning to the UK:

Within 48 hours of travelling back, all passengers must complete a form giving journey and contact details, ready to present at the UK border. This may be printed, or downloaded onto a smart device and can be found at

All passengers aged 11 and over returning to the UK must show proof of a negative Covid-test taken less than 72 hours prior to their arrival. From 4 October 2021 fully vaccinated travellers returning to England will be exempt from this requirement.

Fully vaccinated adults and children under 18 returning to the UK from Italy are not required to quarantine*. All passengers aged 5 and over returning from Italy must take a test on day 2 after arriving in the UK.

Unvaccinated adults returning from Italy must quarantine at home for 10 days (or 5 days with Test to Release) and take tests on day 2 and day 8 after arriving in the UK. Under the government's Test to Release scheme, proof of a negative test taken on day 5 after returning to the UK  shortens the requirement to quarantine from 10 days to 5 days.

*A minimum of 14 days are required between date of final vaccination and travel.

We will be offering favourable rates for testing with three of the government’s approved suppliers. Qured and C19 offer Covid-19 antigen and PCR tests designed specifically for international travel and provide kits which remove the need to source a testing facility overseas before your return to the UK. We are also able to provide Simpson clients with a discounted rate for Randox tests.
