Car hire information

A unique feature of our holidays to Andalucía and Mallorca is the inclusion of an air-conditioned car in most of our holidays. The size of the car will vary according to the number of passengers travelling (see below). A larger car can be booked at the weekly supplements shown in the brackets below.

You will be asked to leave an imprint of your credit card (a debit card will not be acceptable) when you collect your hire car. Provided that you return your hire car with a full tank of petrol (unless the car hire representative advises you otherwise) and the car has not been damaged; no charges will be made to your card. Please note that if you have been requested to return your car with a full tank and you do not do this, the car hire company will deduct the cost of filling up the tank, which may also include a supplement for their time.

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is included – there is no excess to be paid, however please note the CDW does not cover damage to tyres, windscreens or undercarriage. Personal accident insurance is also not included, so please make sure your holiday insurance covers you.

Cars are normally collected and returned back to Málaga and Palma airports. Guests using the airports of Gibraltar, Granada, Jerez & Seville can pick up/drop off their car at these locations but there may be a delivery/pick up supplement of up to £40 per car, per delivery/pick up. Our sales team will confirm the exact cost at time of booking.

Vehicle rental is charged by 24hr day sectors, therefore if for example you pick up your car at 10:00 on Friday 4 May you must return the car back by Friday 10:00 on Friday 11 May for the 7 day rental cost to be valid. If you return the car after 10:00 the car hire company reserves the right to charge you for an extra days car hire.

Please note that we do not consider infants as part of the total party size, when allocating the size of car included in the holiday price.

Upgrading your car
The cars we have included in the basic holiday price offer reasonably comfortable seating for the size of party travelling. We do however ask you to take into account the size of the boot space for your luggage and to bear this in mind when packing. For a small supplement you may wish to upgrade your car to give you extra comfort and space for your luggage or you may prefer to reserve a roof rack to help accommodate your luggage between the airport and your holiday accommodation.

Please Note that the models mentioned are not guaranteed and are merely an indication of the car typically provided and some categories maybe subject to availability i.e. People’s Carriers etc.

Driving in Andalucía and Mallorca
Spanish law insists that you always wear a seat belt and carry your driving licence and car hire documents with you when driving in Spain. If the traffic police do pull you over for speeding, an ‘on the spot’ fine will suddenly become the least of your problems, if they find out you don’t have a driving licence and your car hire documents with you.

When it comes to cars in Spain, small is beautiful! The smaller vehicles are easier to navigate through the narrow streets and down the unpaved tracks that lead to many of our properties.

If you do decide to upgrade to a larger car, peoplecarrier or minibus, please take into account that you may be restricted to where you can drive and easily park, particularly in the cities and smaller towns.

Please note that because of the delightfully, secluded location of the majority of our properties, they are usually reached after negotiating a long and winding mountain-track. We request that you take particular care when driving on these tracks, as you are responsible for any damage caused to the windscreen, tyres or underside of the car. You will be charged by the car hire company for any damage caused whilst the car has been rented out to you.

As you can imagine, parking and driving in the cities is becoming increasingly more stressful, so please allow yourself plenty of time to arrive and park at your hotel.

We suggest aiming to arrive at your hotel between two and four in the afternoon when a lot of the shops will be closed and the roads will be quieter as most people enjoy a lazy lunch or even lazier siesta!

Taking your car to Gibraltar, Portugal or Morocco
You may take your car into Gibraltar or Portugal at no extra charge; however you are not permitted to take your car over to Morocco. Please note that the queues for cars (not for those on foot) between La Linea in Spain and Gibraltar; and vice versa - can create delays from 20mins to in excess of 2hours. We therefore do not recommend you drive in to or out of Gibraltar. Please park your car legally in La Linea in the clearly marked, ‘Pay & Display’ areas and walk across the border controls with your passports.

Pre-register your driving licence details
Our car hire partners – Jumbo Cars/Autos Roig in Mallorca and Global Car Hire/Europa Goldcar/Autos Aguirre/Crown Car Hire in Andalucía will help speed up and smooth your arrival through the airport, by giving you the opportunity to pre-register your driving
licence details. We will send you a pre-registration form along with your confirmation invoice, which we ask you to fax or send back to us, fully completed at least 14 days before your departure from the UK.

Driving licence age restrictions
We have been advised that anyone over the age of 21 who has held a full license for at least 2 years can legally drive in Spain. There is no upper age limit, if you hold a valid UK driving license, it is also valid in Spain.

Please note: the information contained in the main brochure and in this supplement may be subject to unforeseeable change after publication. We will always advise you of any changes that may affect your holiday as the information is made known to us.

What is included with your car hire
In order to assist you with a trouble-free holiday we have included comprehensive insurance, this comprehensive package ensures that you are suitably covered for most events and also covers any excess amount normally payable in the event of damage. You are responsible and thus liable for any damage caused to the windscreen, tyres or underside of the car and will be charged by the car hire company for any damage caused whilst the car has been rented out to you.

Our car hire includes:

  • Unlimited mileage
  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) except for widscreen, tyres or underside of the car
  • A maximum of 3 named driver (including the main driver) on each contract
  • All taxes
  • Airport collection and domestic one-way charges (with a minimum of 7 days rental)
  • 24 hour breakdown service

Not included:

  • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) – your travel insurance will normally cover this
  • Deposit (see above)
  • Petrol and refuelling charges
  • Infant/Baby/Booster seat (parents may prefer to take their own as style and installation differ and most car hire company are prevented by law from installing them)

Transfers
Where private transfers are included i.e. city breaks to Seville, Palma, the Hotel Bon Sol or Casita de Voramar in Mallorca – a private vehicle and driver will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation.

In Mallorca we can request infant/baby/booster seats which are normally provided free of charge. In Andalucia it is not always possible to provide infant/baby/booster seats, in which case you may prefer to bring your own seats with you, which can be carried in the aircraft hold.
