Think of the fertile valleys of Las Alpujarras, or the Grazalema Natural Park, full of awesome ravines, rock formations and wildflowers or the terrain that surrounds the breathtaking El Chorro Gorge. This wilder beauty offers sublime walking country – here a mosaic of lemon, orange and olive groves, crops of wheat and cattle meadows cover the valleys, while magnificent chaos breaks out at a higher level.
This is an Andalucía true to itself, which opens its heart to the inquisitive traveller – especially in the less-visited rural areas, where there’s an enthusiastic welcome from local people for anyone who cares to stop and explore. And there is much to stop for. Many smaller towns and hill villages offer a treasure store of Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
