Introduction to Greece

Greece's turquoise seas and meandering coastlines have an enduring allure, its unspoilt beaches offering family-friendly spaces for sandcastles and snorkelling; its secret bays the epitome of peaceful seclusion for two. It's a place where silvered olive groves and vast mountain ranges meet woods and waterfalls, while a rich undercurrent of history plays out all around – a past still making its presence felt in the ancient ruins, timeless villages and tiny churches. However, it's the warmth of the welcome that our guests remember on their holiday in Greece, and countless vine-entwined harbourside tavernas where waiters greet you like old friends and the menu is fresh, hearty and wholesome.

Our luxury Greece villas, apartments and boutique Simpson Hotels, including some of our much-loved Adult Only Hotels, reflects the wonderful diversity of the destination.

Regions in Greece

From the peaceful idyll painted by Gerald Durrell in his memoirs of family life to the epic myths of magnificent ancient sites, writers have been celebrating the sensual delights of Greece for centuries.

Catch the breeze as it drifts from hillsides of wild herbs or fragrant pines; immerse yourself in the colour, music and dancing of a lively summer festival or take a boat in search of deserted coves – the possibilities of Greece are endless and we’ve chosen areas that we believe represent the best this destination has to offer.

Corfu

With a history as dramatic and varied as its backdrop, a holiday in Corfu allows you to experience the island’s rich culture and explore off the beaten track. Inland the landscape is shaped by endless cypress and olive groves. On the coast, idyllic sandy beaches are hemmed by craggy coves and rocky inlets.

Crete

With the longest coastline of any Greek Island, Crete offers the classic beach holiday combined with a host of historical curiosities, not least Knossos, believed to be Europe’s oldest city. It’s a ‘many holidays in one’ destination, with vibrant towns, sleepy villages and natural beauty in abundance.

Ithaca

The quintessentially Greek island of Ithaca is steeped in history and has been prized by great powers from the Romans to the Venetians, who left their legacy of monasteries and ruins. Go for the gentle pace, the panoramic coastal views and a taste of a simpler life.

Kefalonia

The setting of the best-selling Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Kefalonia offers an unspoilt side of the island from the popular holiday hub of the south west. Long sandy beaches lead to pretty pastel-coloured old houses at Fiskardo, an area of outstanding natural beauty which has retained its authentic fishing village atmosphere.

Lefkada

Award-winning beaches edge the lush, mountainous island of Lefkada, the coastline to the east offering sheltered coves much-loved by families, whilst the west boasts soft white sand beaches. The Venetian town of Lefkada itself sits between the two; balancing the traditional with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Meganissi

Expect busyness to take a back seat on exclusive Meganissi, where island life centres on just three villages: Spartachori, Katomeri and Vathy. Instead, linger in harbourside restaurants; find a white pebble beach with the bluest of seas to call your own or simply stop and appreciate the stunning views.

Paxos

Home to just three main villages, yet an astonishing 63 churches, unspoilt, quietly luxurious Paxos is only accessible by boat – and, somewhere between morning coffee in the harbour, pottering along the coast in a little boat and dinner in a friendly taverna, it weaves its magic over everyone who visits.

Zakynthos

Known as The Garden of the Levant, the Greek Island of Zakynthos is renowned for its stunning scenery and family-friendly appeal. With magnificent sea views set against a landscape of olive, cypress and citrus groves, visitors can discover forgotten monasteries and ruins and sample authentic Greek cuisine and local wine.

Sivota & Epirus

On the beautiful coast of the wild Epirus region, Sivota is a mainland destination with the charm of an island. For beaches, you’re spoilt for choice or swap seascapes for the spectacular Vikos Gorge and the dramatic monasteries of Meteora, before returning to the gentle buzz of the waterfront tavernas for dinner.
