Greece Car Hire Information

Our car hire is provided through our local agents using reputable and professional suppliers in each area. Please check with us at the time of booking if you wish to know the name of the car hire companies we use, as they differ across all our destinations in Greece.

Car-inclusive holidays in Greece
The category of car included in the basic holiday price will vary according to the number of people in your party (please see details in box under price charts as they vary across destination). Please note that infants have not been included in this calculation – but they do occupy a seat, so this must be taken into account. You may feel you need to up-grade your car to allow for luggage and overall space.

Upgrading your car
The cars we have included in the basic holiday price offer reasonably comfortable seating for the size of party travelling. We do however ask you to take into account the size of the boot space for your luggage and if any infants will be in your party. For a small supplement you may wish to upgrade your car to give you extra comfort and space for your luggage.

If a car is included in the price of your holiday and you wish to upgrade to a larger car, simply calculate the difference between the cost of the included group of car and the cost of the group of car you wish to upgrade to. See prices below.

Luggage racks, where available, must be pre-booked. Alternatively taxis can be arranged to transport your excess luggage, which can either be booked and paid for via our Sales Consultants, or requested and paid for locally (subject to availability).

Adding a car to your Greece booking
We offer competitive rates for those clients without inclusive car hire included in the cost of their holiday, who wish to book a car during their stay – please see overleaf for prices.

Car hire normally has to be booked a minimum of seven days prior to departure. We advise that you book your car hire before departure, as there is only limited availability in resort, especially during peak season.

In certain cases we can deliver the car to your property at an additional charge. Alternatively you may choose to collect your car at the airport when you arrive – if you give us at least seven days notice we may be able to give you a part refund for the unused portion of your transfer. Please note that in most cases car rental must be a minimum of three days.

Infant/Child seats
Infant, child car seats (forward facing seats only are available) and booster seats can be provided if booked at least 2 weeks prior to your departure. They are charged at £2 per day each regardless of length of time. Please remember to specify the age and anticipated weight of child at date of travelling, and we will endeavour to find the most suitable one for you.

Please note that car hire staff do not install the child seats and style and installation differs to those in the UK. You may prefer to bring your own child seat for your own peace of mind.

Car Hire Prices

• All the prices given are for one week’s rental
• Prices are inclusive of insurance and unlimited kilometres
• One main driver (most companies also include a second driver, however there may be a small local charge in Zakynthos)
• All cars are fitted with catalytic converters and front & rear seatbelts (which must be worn)
• Most cars* have radio/cassette
• All cars are manual unless indicated otherwise
• A/C = Air-conditioning

* Please note that jeeps and cabriolets do not have radio/ cassettes

Please note that the vehicle types listed are only a sample of the vehicles available within each group. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a specific car to you as the car hire agencies may change their fleet at any time.

Any car above a Group D category must be requested from the car hire company at the time of booking, so availability cannot be guaranteed. Please also note that jeeps and cabriolets often have limited luggage space and that with the full complement of passengers may not be able to carry all your suitcases. This is also the case for People Carriers and Mini-buses.

Conditions of hire

• For Groups A, B & C the minimum age for driving a hire car is usually 21 (though certain companies ask for 23 so please check at the time of booking if you are below this age)
• For higher groups the minimum age requirement is 25 (an excess may apply – please see page 19)
• Valid driving licence must be held for at least a year
• The maximum number of people insured for each vehicle is specified as under ‘No. seats’
• Please note: a credit card* is required when collecting your car. No money will be taken if you return the undamaged car at the time stated on your voucher, with the correct amount of petrol and not requiring extra cleaning. A cash deposit/payment may be accepted, so please check with us if you do not have a credit card.

* Please note that your credit card will also be used to covers any outstanding parking fines or penalties that have remained unpaid. However, we will always check with you first before deducting any monies.

Please note: we must emphasise that car insurance in Greece does not cover damage to tyres, windscreen or undercarriage. Please, therefore, drive with care and especially if you choose to drive off-road, as your insurance will not cover you for any resulting damage. You will also not be covered for any mis-use of the car. In certain destinations, you may be offered the opportunity to upgrade your car insurance to cover all or some of the above extras. Furthermore, the insurance is negated if any damage, loss , theft or accident is caused by your own negligence. For example, driving under the influence of alcohol, using the wrong type of fuel, driving off road, unlawful driving, apparent personal effects (theft) and unlocked doors (theft).

Please also ensure that you are covered for Personal Accident Insurance in your personal travel insurance policy.

Please note that an excess may apply to cover any cost of damage you make to your hire car. You will be advised when you collect your car (before you sign your contract) if any excess applies and the extra payment you can make, to help reduce the cost of the excess.

Pre-registration
In certain destinations in Greece we can arrange for you to pre-register your driving licence details to speed the collection of your car hire. You will be sent the relevant form at the time of confirming your reservation, so please return it to us by post or fax at least two weeks prior to your departure.

Greece Two-centre holidays
In the case where one of the properties includes a higher grade of car, then it will be necessary for you to exchange cars at the end of the first week at the nearest car hire office. Alternatively, you may prefer to pay for an upgraded car for the extra week, to avoid such a changeover.

Driving licence
Please ensure you have a valid EU driving licence with you when collecting your car. This includes both the pink/green European Community Licence and the new photo-card licence. The driver of the car must always carry both licence and passport when driving the car. Please advise us at the time of booking if you do not have an EU licence so that we can check that the one you have is acceptable to the car hire company.

Driving in Greece
The law insists that you always carry your driving licence and car hire documents with you when driving in Greece. Random checks and breath testing are quite common.

Although much work has been done to Greek roads over the past few years, most of them, particularly country and mountain roads, remain narrow and winding, and some are in poor state of repair. Guests staying in rural or mountain accommodation in particular should take this into consideration. Smaller vehicles are easier to navigate through the narrow roads and tracks that lead to many of our properties and some of these tracks may sometimes have bumps and potholes, especially after periods of rain.

We do ask that you take particular care when driving on these roads, bearing in mind the conditions of your hire car rental agreement.
