Your Greece Accommodation

Greece Properties of Atmosphere & Style

Our portfolio of personally selected properties offers different types of accommodation, reflecting the diversity found across Greece.

The owners of many of our hotels, villas, cottages and apartments have incorporated furnishings and equipment that they would expect to use in their own homes; however please note that standards can vary. We feel this enriches your holiday experience and kindly ask you to respect this environment and care for it, as if it were your own home.

We have tried to describe all our properties as accurately as possible the general style and layout of each property. To follow we provide further details on accommodation standards and other useful information. We want to help you book the right holiday and therefore recommend you discuss your requirements with us.

We have included the following list to help clarify the descriptions of the hotel room types described in the ‘Accommodation details’ boxes in our main brochures.

Health & Safety in Greece

Simpson Travel is committed to raising the standards of Health & Safety throughout all our programmes. Our customers’ safety and well being is of the highest importance to us. However, please note that since many of our properties are private homes (giving them unique character and individuality), it is not always possible to meet the same exacting standards that we enjoy in the UK. We ask you to familiarise yourself with the property on arrival, particularly when travelling with children, and raise any concerns with your local representative.

Electricity

Voltage in Greece is 220 volts AC. Please bring a 2 pin adaptor plug for all appliances you may bring with you.

Water Supply

Your information pack will specify whether the water is drinkable in your accommodation. The majority of drinking water in Greece is of a high standard, with the exception of a few small islands, where they rely totally on rainwater and, in which case, we would advise you to drink bottled water.

Plumbing in Greece

We ask you to note that across Greece the plumbing system is not designed for any items to be flushed down the toilet, including toilet paper. Bins are however provided in all bathrooms for you to use.

Animals and Wildlife in Greece

As in all rural communities, indigenous animals are an essential part of the way of life. The braying of a donkey, crow of a cockerel or the barking of a dog is not a complaint that receives much sympathy from the locals! Care should be taken to minimise the presence of insects and animals in your accommodation. Keep surfaces clean, dispose of refuse regularly, and ensure that food is not left uncovered.

Cats and dogs are often resident where an owner or manager lives on the property. They are normally docile and enjoy making friends. Their domain is generally restricted to the public areas of the property and gardens. If you are allergic to cats and/or dogs please ensure that you check the suitability of your chosen accommodation with us prior to confirming your booking.

Noise

Seasoned travellers accept that, though regrettable, traffic, farm work, animals and other sounds form part of everyday life. We hope to have indicated in our descriptions the possibility of some kinds of disturbance; however, what constitutes ‘noise’ to one person may not be a problem for another. It should be remembered that in the country, work begins early, and the movement of tractors is a common sight near many of our countryside properties. Please let us know if you have any special needs regarding this element of your holiday and we will be happy to advise you accordingly.

Swimming Pools in Greece

Swimming pool details are given where applicable, but please note that all pool dimensions are approximate only. Pools may be fresh or seawater and are unheated unless stated. Very few pools have covers, fencing or life rings, so children must be supervised at all times. Swimming pools are generally in use from early April to October; the opening/closing dates of the swimming pools are subject to the climatic conditions at the time they are due to open/close. We regret we cannot be held responsible if poor weather means that the pool is opened later, or is closed earlier in the season.

Certain pools in Greece are infinity pools. An infinity pool has an exposed side which sits on the edge of an unprotected drop – this maximises views and is an attractive feature of the pool. We recommend that children are supervised at all times, as the exposed edge may have a significant drop which is unprotected.

Cots and Highchairs

Travel cots and high chairs can be supplied free of charge in all our villas and some hotels (we will inform you if there is a charge). In most cases these will be foldup portable cots and highchairs. We ask you to provide your own linen. In many cases we rely upon our owners/agents to supply these items. They vary in size, age and style. We do ask owners to check for damage and to ensure cots/high chairs are supplied clean. However, we require guests to satisfy themselves as to their suitability prior to using them. For your own peace of mind you may prefer to take your own travel cot.

Satellite Television

Where we have indicated that satellite television is available, we cannot guarantee that stations broadcasting in English will always be available. Local Greek channels do often show English films during their evening scheduled, subtitled in Greek.

Telephones & Mobile Phones

We have indicated in our main brochure the properties, which have a phone. These are usually for incoming and outgoing local calls only. For making international calls we recommend that you take your GSM phone with you to Greece, where coverage is extremely good, with the exception of a few very rural locations.

Occupancy

Only guests named on your invoice are entitled to occupy the accommodation. Any people not appearing on the invoice will be charged locally.

Please note that where a group of cottages or apartments share the grounds and the pool, or if you are staying in a hotel, owners in Greece do not permit people not mentioned on the invoice to use the facilities.

Self-Catering Accommodation in Greece

Villa owners

Whilst the owners or staff of some properties may live on site and tend to the grounds, they are aware that you value your privacy, and will do their best not to intrude. We do ask you however, to allow them reasonable access to the property so that they can maintain the grounds and keep them in good order.

Arrival/Departure time

You can occupy your villa or apartment after 4.00pm. Any variation to this will be shown clearly on your itinerary sent with your travel documents. All properties must be vacated by 10.00am to ensure that the property is properly cleaned and prepared for the next clients. If you are making your own travel arrangements, please advise us of your time of arrival, so we can make all the necessary arrangements.

Security & cleaning deposits

For self-catering properties, we require you to lodge a security deposit against any breakages, damage, losses, extra cleaning or outstanding accounts, which you may have incurred during your stay. This must be done by Credit or Debit Card at the time of booking by providing authorisation for us to deduct (within 21 days of your return home) any advised charges from your card – up to the maximum amount of £1000 per booking. In the event that you do not have a Credit or Debit Card you will be required to send us a cheque.

The specific amount required for your chosen property will be advised to you at the time of booking. In the unlikely event that any damage to the property exceeds the maximum applicable amount, then you will be responsible for the full cost.

Cleaning

Our self-catering accommodation will be thoroughly cleaned on arrival day and each 7 days thereafter. Additionally there will be a mid-week clean. This takes the form of a sweep, mop and general tidy up.
The following properties have a more regular clean:

In Crete: The Istron Collection, Thalassa Villas and Galazio Kima

In Corfu: Villas Panorama & Paradiso, The Saints, Villa Elaia

In Paxos: Eagle’s Nest, Villas Petra & Pelagos, Nerantzi House, Koukla’s House, Loggos Mills and Fontana House

In Cephalonia: Villa Dolicha

In Zakynthos: Periyali

The maids prepare the villa for each arrival but we kindly request that you leave the villa in a reasonably clean and tidy state on departure. Please also ensure that you put the rubbish out during your stay, to avoid attracting pests.

Extra maid service

Certain properties offer the choice of additional cleaning during your stay. This will be at a supplement payable locally – typically for an hourly rate and for a minimum amount of time (e.g. 3 hours per visit). Please let us know if you wish to book this, and we can check to see if this will be possible.

Laundry and linen

The linen and towels are generally laundered twice a week. The beach and bath towels, as well as all the bed linen provided, should be left in the property at the end of your holiday. Please note that you must bring your own linen if you have requested a cot.

Pool/beach towels

As an extra service to our clients we are pleased to provide Simpson Travel pool/beach towels for your convenience during your stay. These are normally laundered weekly. We request that you kindly leave them in the villa at the end of your stay, as missing towels will be charged for.

Chefs on request

Ideal for families or groups of friends who do not wish to eat out every night. Our ‘chef’s on request’ service provides you with your own personal cook at a reasonable price. The chefs can cook a wide variety of dishes and food types according every taste. You’ll feel thoroughly pampered and well fed! We can arrange this service in Corfu at Villa Elaia. Please ask our travel consultants for details.

Heating and air-conditioning

The majority of our properties have heating facilities for cooler evenings in early or late season. Central heating is available in some properties for the low season weeks, though many properties have air-conditioning units that heat, as well as cool. The charge for air-conditioning and heating is included in the cost of your holiday.

Barbecues

We have specified in the ‘Accommodation details’ where these are provided. Where they are not supplied, it is usually because the surrounding terrain has been designated as a fire risk. The local or national government reserve the right to introduce new rulings at any time, often with little prior notice – prohibiting the use of barbecues to reduce the risk of fires.

Hotel accommodation

Greece Hotel Gradings

We are required to display the official Greek gradings of the hotels featured in our brochure. However, we feel they could mislead you in your choice of holiday, as they are not necessarily representative of the hotel’s standard of rooms and services. These standards also differ substantially to those countries where tourism is more developed.

Guests having booked half board, and who have special dietary requirements, should inform us at the time of booking and provide full details of these requirements. We will then check with the hotel to see if any special arrangements can be made for you.

Dinners

In small hotels where dinner is available this is usually a fixed menu which may or may not have a choice of dishes. You are generally asked to book your dinner by midday. If you would like dinner on the day of your arrival at these hotels, please advise us when making your booking, or at least one week prior to your arrival at the hotel. These meals are paid for locally.

Choice of bedrooms

Please advise us of your choice of bedroom (double or twin) at the time of booking, so we can request your choice to the hotel.

Cots & highchairs

Please advise us at time of booking if you require a cot and/or highchair. A small charge may be applied by the hotel and payable to the hotel in Greece or added to your holiday cost. Please note that hotels do not supply linen for cots, so please bring your own.

Swimming pools

Swimming pools may be fresh or seawater and are generally unheated. Very few pools have covers, fencing or life rings, so children must be supervised at all times. Certain pools in Greece are infinity pools. An infinity pool has an exposed side, which sits on the edge of an unprotected drop – this maximises views and is an attractive feature of the pool. We recommend that children are supervised at all times, as the exposed edge may have a significant drop which is unprotected.

Most hotel bedrooms have air-conditioning and heating units which are either centrally or individually controlled – please check the main brochure description to see if air-conditioning is included. The charge for these facilities is included in the cost of your holiday.

Telephones

Hotel bedrooms will usually have a direct-dial telephone in the room and charges are payable locally.

Internet Access

Where available, we have stated under the ‘Accommodation details’ if a hotel has Internet connection. The type of connection will vary at each hotel and broadband is not readily available in all areas. Please note that there may be a charge for phone line usage (similar to the costs of phone calls) or other charges, depending on the type of hotel internet connection.

Smoking

Please note that there are very few ‘non-smoking’ bedrooms and public areas in Greece.

Lifts

We have indicated in our brochure which hotels do not have a lift in cases where the hotel has more than two floors. Please do not hesitate to ask us if a lift is important to you.

Seasonal facilities

A number of other facilities mentioned in the hotel descriptions, may also be subject to weather conditions e.g. pool opening times, restaurant terraces, pool bars etc. While we hope to be able to give you correct advice about the availability of such facilities, we cannot be too precise at the beginning or end of the season.
