Villas
The little known region of the Epiros lies across the straits between the Ionian Islands and the mainland. This north western corner of Greece bounded by the Pindos mountain range on one side and the sea on the other is an extraordinarily beautiful, rugged area, some say the most beautiful in Greece, perfect for exploring or for relaxed beach holidays.
Contrasting scenery
The interior has an alpine climate with gorges and deep pine forests, inland plains, delta lagoons and reed beds, and there are still home to lynx, wolves and brown bears as well as magnificent birdlife. By contrast, the Epirus has a gloriously relaxing, unspoiled Ionian coastline with tiny coves, attractive harbours, and long, sandy beaches.
The unique Epirot architecture has created a landscape of tiny pack-bridges, water mills and traditional villages of steep-roofed stone houses and the area is rich in prehistoric, classical and Byzantine remains. The atmospheric principal city, Ioanina, stands on Lake Pamvotis, is characterised by narrow streets of fine old Turkish houses and is known for good shops and excellent fish restaurants.
