Arosmari Village Hotel Greece, Crete

Arosmari Village Hotel is a haven; a cluster of stone and cypress wood cottages with a beautiful garden at its heart, set in the timeless village of Vamos. Here, among roses, jasmine and lavender are many secret corners to read, meditate or sleep the afternoon away. Touches of the rural past: a shepherd's hut, a threshing circle and even a small chapel are spread among the olive trees and lawn. A leisurely day begins with breakfast served in the gardens, using local produce and later, light lunches can be served by the pool. There is a delightful reading room with an honesty bar with open views over the pool and garden plus a cosy sitting room with old photographs and memorabilia. An extra dimension is a small Spa for guests including a Turkish Hammam and treatment room for a combination of traditional massages and therapies with scented oils.

Arosmari is a small country hotel for adults and couples only. Our Simpson concierge service will advise on local walks, driving routes and cultural activities including cookery and wine-tasting.  In addition, from June to September, host and pianist Nikos arranges a once weekly classical Greek music evening in the small amphitheatre in the gardens of Arosmari, complete with local wines and a delicious traditional supper.

The village of Vamos is set against the spectacular backdrop of the White Mountains. Shepherds still herd their sheep along the flag-stoned lanes and russet-haired goats amble between the olives. Vamos is a small slice of old Crete infused with the values of traditional hospitality. The village is famous for its local crafts and organic produce: including thyme honey, pickles, jams, cheeses and olive oil soap. It also has a local bakery, a 19th century kafenion and traditional tavernas where mouth-watering Cretan specialities, such as chicken in red wine, cuttlefish and fennel, artichokes or chickpea purée are cooked in stone ovens and served with some of the island's best wine. In low season, log fires create a wonderful evening atmosphere and in summer, large plane trees provide welcome shade. For those who want to explore authentic Cretan food a little further, local cookery courses are available. The village is also the starting point for walking tours of the surrounding countryside and historic Chania town is just a 30 minute drive.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Vamos at the Arosmari. The accommodation was first class and in a superb location. Sue & Mike were very knowledgeable about the local area , -advising on walks & restaurants to visit. We will definitely return in the future and would recommend this property. Mr Dignan - October 2016
  • My friend and I have truly loved our time at Arosmari. This entire property and the facilities are such a charming combination of ancient and newly built. If we ever have the opportunity, we will come back again. Dr Carson - September 2016
  • This was our second Simpson holiday this year and if you want total relaxation in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you. We were in Bay Cottage which had the advantage of the little courtyard and many afternoon we would sit with a glass of wine, chatting to people as they went by. Breakfasts as usual were to a very high standard and we were well looked after by Susan and Mike. Mr Winslett - September 2016
  • This is what I call a retreat! Away from it all and very relaxing. The weather has been superb and everybody has been so helpful, i.e. Susan, Mike and Nicos. We recommend a visit to Kalives which is not far and is quite unspoiled; also to Chania. We have not missed televisions, but we have watched quite a few DVDs which we never have time for at home. We will go home refreshed, relaxed and with some lovely memories Mr Jones - September 2016
  • When we arrived at Arosmari two weeks ago we thought, 'What an amazing place' quite magical. We wanted somewhere to completely relax and rest away from our busy lives. All the staff at Arosmari have been wonderful, so thank you again Simpson for our 4th holiday with you. Mr Winslett - September 2016
  • Wonderful accommodation. Fantastic help from Susanne & Mike who made the holiday restful & trouble free. This holiday was everything we could of wished for. Mr Waller - September 2016
  • Relaxing week in rustic surroundings. Excellent food and company. We were part of the first ‘Stretch in the sun’ programme, which was challenging, entertaining and useful. Taverna Chasomari is not only the nearest, but best for food and entertainment. Perhaps next time we would be more adventurous, could explore surrounding region, but it’s very easy just to laze by the pool! Tip: We did not realise until penultimate day that we had a terrace/balcony (steps up from courtyard) with spectacular views of the mountains. Thanks to Susan, Mike, Ruby and staff – they were all helpful, available and cheerful. The breakfast was excellent! Mr Syers - September 2016
  • Our second visit to Arosmari, this time staying at the beautiful Rosemary Cottage, felt less like an organised trip and more like a visit to see old friends. Nikos, Susan, Mike, Ruby, Kostas (if you can get over his opinions of the English football team!) and Clairi are just all such lovely people, so welcoming, friendly and were totally attentive to our needs - nothing was ever too much trouble (thanks for the gaffer tape, Mike - I'll bring you some more when we return!). Arosmari itself is just so magical - the peace and tranquility of the gardens, the beautiful candlelights that greeted us when we returned each evening, already mellow, from another night out in one of the lovely local tavernas, the musical concert provided in the little amphitheater by Nikos and his little band under the fading sunset, all were just incomparable and make this a very special place. It would have been so easy to linger for another week...and another....! Thanks, too, to all the Simpson team in London who provided faultless service and organisation - you really are a very special company. Mr Shaw - September 2016
  • The most idyllic place we have ever encountered. The staff Susan and Mike, Ruby and all the team including Nikos made it such a memorable stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the concert on Friday and the food organised by Ruby was superb! Altogether what a fabulous place to stay! We will definitely be back! Thank you all so much! Mr Thacker - September 2016
  • Yet again a super time at Arosmari. Gorgeous weather for the whole two weeks. We recommend a trip to Kissamos – not so much to see the town, but the museum is a must. Aptera on the way back. Be warned that it closes at 3 pm. We are going home refreshed and relaxed. Thanks to Nicos, Mike and Susan, and Ruby for her yummy food. You are a great team! Mrs Wood - September 2016
  • If you are looking for a perfect relaxing retreat with great staff, great food, clean beautiful cottages look no further! Mrs Neigel - September 2016
  • We were delighted when we arrived at Arosmari & Fennel Cottage - a wonderful setting and well catered for. Vamos is a very friendly, welcoming village. Our thanks to all those involved in making this a special holiday destination. Booked on a whim when UK was grey and cold in late June. Not a bad choice! Mr Milam - August 2016
  • We spent a lovely relaxing week at Arosmari. Just what we needed. Plenty to do when we wanted, otherwise an oasis of calm to relax and read in the sun. Thanks to Sue and Mike and the lovely team for making us feel so welcome. I'm sure we'll return. Ms Griffiths - August 2016
  • If you are looking for personal service, with accommodation that has been well tried and tested and is off the beaten track then Simpsons can certainly meet your needs. Mrs Perkins - August 2016
  • A big thank you to Susan, Mike, Ruby and the rest of the hotel staff for a lovely week in Vamos. The hotel is enchanting and exceeded our expectations for being the perfect place for rest and relaxation. Mr Jordan - August 2016
  • What a fabulous little bolt-hole retreat! We've had a bit of a tough year and needed the peace and serenity provided by Basil (Arosmari, Vamos). We loved it. Special thanks has to go to all of the Simpson team here at Arosmari. The biggest thank you! Mr Reardon - August 2016
  • Location, property, reps, owner and staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble, so friendly and welcoming which extends to the people of Vamos. Such a relaxing holiday, such an ideal setting for couples who want to get away from it all but if you wish to explore, either by walking locally or driving to places of interest, the seaside or Rethymnon and Chania, it is your choice. The highlight of the holiday was a delicious Cretan buffet prepared by the owner's mother and 'Ruby' a member of staff, and then whisked away to Lake Kournas to witness an open air concert performed by an exceptional orchestra and singer on the night of the full moon, sitting centrally in the 2nd row, all organised by the owner of the properties for his several guests. We shall definitely travel with Simpsons in the future. Thank you for making our holiday one to remember. Ms Page - August 2016
  • Exactly what we needed! Perfect location, lovely staff & delicious food...we'll be back! Mrs Williams - August 2016
  • We have thoroughly enjoyed our time on the island of Crete! Wonderful beaches, friendly people, great food and a charming cottage with beautiful gardens. The peaceful and laid back tranquillity of Vamos really rubbed off on us and we returned home very relaxed. Mr Swan - August 2016
  • Charmed by our first Cretan adventure at every turn. Mr Thomas - August 2016
  • Shhhh Everything had been considered. Simply relaxed on our holiday. Mr Thomas - August 2016
  • What a special place Arosmari is, tucked away in the mountain village of Vamos. A real little oasis. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing stay. Mrs Anderson - August 2016
  • This was our 1st holiday with Simpson Travel and found a piece of paradise at the Arosmari Village hotel, we had the most fabulous week in Arugula cottage and only wished that we had booked 2 weeks. We were so well looked after by the team in Vamos, Sue, Mike, Ruby and the owner Nikos, nothing was too much trouble. We are planning our next summer hoilday with Simpson Travel to probably another part of Greece but will return to Vamos in the future. Mrs Sims - August 2016
  • This is the first time that we have travelled with Simpson Travel and they were excellent. Staff were very friendly and knowledgable and our travel arrangements were very smooth and easy. Arosmari Hotel in Crete was beautiful and we had a very enjoyable stay. The food and people of Crete were delightful. Will definitely travel with Simpson again. Mrs Anderson - August 2016
  • We loved our relaxing stay in Vamos - what a beautiful town! Mr Godfrey - August 2016
  • We have just had the most fabulous, relaxing week. Thank you Nikos, Sue, Mike & Ruby - the eggs are the best! We will be back there as there is so much more to do & see. The musical evening on Friday was one of the highlights of the week, the food, music & company was excellent. Mrs Sims - August 2016
  • This was our second trip to the Arosmari hotel in Vamos, Crete and yet again it delivered in every way. We were much in need of rest and sunshine so knew this would deliver! The hotel is situated in a village that is big enough to sustain a few tavernas so eating out is never a problem. The hotel grounds offer many places to sit and enjoy the quiet or simply to lounge beside the generous pool. The various cottages provide comfortable beds and places to sit in or sit out. What makes it special is the willingness of all the staff to make your stay so good- from clean sheets, to welcome breakfasts and suggestions to attend local events; nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. Mrs Casswell - July 2016
  • A collection of authentic Cretan cottages set in beautiful gardens with all possible amenities. A luxurious retreat from the modern world. Mr Dunstone - July 2016

  • A peaceful and scenic stay in the foothills of the The White Mountains. Our accommodation in Oregano Cottage was lovely. The gardens and pool are superb as were the communal areas. Great, friendly staff who treated us as friends rather than paying guests! Sheila and Andrew. Lymington Hants. August 2016 Mr Collyer - July 2016
  • Returned to Crete after a gap of eight years. We were looking for Simpsons style of casual elegance and we found it here. Simple - taking us back to the Simply days of the eighties, that with the comforts needed by fifty somethings! Arosmari was not a disappointment and we had a lovely fortnight, this is the place to come and recharge the batteries, for sure! Mrs Gornall-King - July 2016

  • What a wonderful holiday, our best yet in Crete! Beautiful location with a lovely team who helped make it so special, thanks, Susan, Mike, Ruby and the girls. Thanks also to Nikos for his fabulous music evenings...not to be missed. Mr Allerton - June 2016
  • A fabulous two weeks at Arosmari in Crete. It really is an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Nothing too much trouble, breakfasts are delicious - all in in all the perfect place to relax and unwind. We will return. Mrs Panting - June 2016
  • Arosmari is in such a pretty setting, in a village, views of the white mountains yet minutes walk from bars and tavernas. We had a relaxing week including walking both the Imbros and Samaria gorges - we had wanted to do them for a number of years and they didn't disappoint. So much to see and do, we loved Hania, the Botanical Gardens and Rethymno and all the walks around Vamos. Mrs Morgan - June 2016
  • Very relaxing week. Quiet and peaceful, delightful walking, easy to visit the coast by car, or explore further afield., or just flop by the pool in the beautiful gardens. We did all of those. We loved Oregano cottage, and the view of the mountains from our balcony...Our thanks to all the staff at Arosmari, who helped to make our stay so perfect. Hopefully, we will be back! Mr Bates - June 2016
  • This was our first time with Simpson, but I can understand why people travel so often with you. Mr Coleman - June 2016

  • Still absolutely beautiful! I cannot think of a nicer place to wake up on my birthday! Thank you all once again. See you next year (if not before)! Mr Booth - May 2016
  • Another wonderful holiday in Crete and to Arosmari. A few reflections and memories that make this place so special for us: the very best exotic Arosmari hotel, full of interesting and well-travelled guests and delightful staff. Special thanks to Susan and Mike for their expert knowledge, to Nicos for the hospitality, to Ruby for the great cakes and Costas for the breakfast service. Housekeeping standards are superb! The church bells, the beautiful gardens, the candles at night and the stars; the views of the mountains at sunrise; the local tavernas (our favourite is Chasomari, especially on a music night); the amazing food; the local trips, the pretty harbour; beautiful Chania – the market, the old quarter, great shops and atmosphere at night. A fantastic formula Simpson – don’t change a thing! Mrs Hayes-Griffin - May 2016
  • Many thanks for a wonderful relaxing week in this paradise, especially to Susan, Mike, Costas and Ruby. Thank you for all your advice and generous hospitality. Hopefully we will pay a return visit one day! Mr Hadwin - May 2016
  • Once again, Simpson Travel exceeded our expectations, with Arosmari Village hotel ticking all the boxes. The on site team could not have been more helpful, and this, coupled with the location, once again made all the difference. Thank you. Mr Reynolds - May 2016
  • It has been a lovely week. Sue and Mike could not have been more helpful. Ruby made sure that there was delicious breakfast. Thanks to Nicos and to all the team here. We enjoyed the local food in Vamos. There are some lovely drives and beautiful walks around Vamos, especially up to the monastery. Lots to see in Chania and Sue made it really easy by recommending a 'valet' parking near the Old town. Major Watts-Russell - May 2016
  • We came for Greek Easter and it was worth it! Ruby made the traditional red Easter eggs. Nikos invited us for a traditional meal in the garden. Susan, Mike, Kostas and everyone have been most kind and helpful. A curtain appeared on the windows overlooking the lane after we said we felt ‘a bit exposed’. The furniture and linen were good, the beds were comfortable. We got more than we expected! Mrs Lloyd - April 2016
  • A truly delightful experience with the unexpected bonus of experiencing Easter twice, albeit Orthodox-style. We loved the local walks and everything about the charming village of Vamos and our very special accommodation. Endorse everything said about local restaurants and really helpful team here. We would love to come back again and will be exploring other Simpson venues. Mrs White - April 2016

Our favourite restaurant was Chasomeri – Demetrios is very nice and the food is great. Also has the best Wifi – quicker than home! Do visit Knossos – great site! Dr Day - September 2015
  • The Arosmari is a lovely, relaxing place but well positioned for excursions, walking - and just lying on a sunny beach! The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you for a very memorable holiday. Mr Walker - September 2015
  • Just what we needed – a lovely location in a very friendly village! Lots of good meals in local tavernas. Some good days out, particularly Chania – very pretty. Aptera – very interesting, Imbros – very tiring and Knossos – very distant, but the museum in Heraklion is a ‘must see’. Many thanks to Nikos, Ruby, Susan, Mike and the rest of the team. Crete is as good as it was when we came 30 years ago! Mr Bray - September 2015
  • We have had a wonderfully relaxing week at the Arosmari, and even though we had some rain it hasn’t stopped us enjoying this part of Crete to the full. As others have already said, the Arosmari is a lovely place and the pool, the lovely breakfast and the magical concert under the stars have all contributed to a memorable holiday. Our favourite beach has been at Kalives. Sue and Mike have been very helpful, with lots of suggestions for excursions. Many thanks to all for a great stay! Mr Walker - September 2015
  • Wonderful, relaxing two weeks in Vamos. Susan and Mike were ever helpful, just have to ask and they will find a solution. Knossos is worth a visit, but beware the 20th century reconstructions; old Chania is also very good. Botanical gardens were an unexpected delight – set into the mountain side (wear good footwear), Kostas and Ruby are a great team at breakfast. Mr Walker - September 2015
  • Brilliant holiday in gorgeous location with like minded travellers. The holiday was undoubtedly enhanced by the care and knowledge of the local representatives who were a real credit to Simpsons. Nothing was too much trouble. Even the car hire rep insisted on buying us bottles of water for our journey! This was our first experience of Simpson travel. We have already recommended them to family and friends and certainly intend holidaying with them again. Mrs Roff - September 2015
  • In the guest book we wrote that Arosmari village is a kind of idyll. For us it was rustic perfection beautifully catered. Mr Pitchford - September 2015

  • Excellent service from Simpson. Accommodation just lovely, very peaceful, a perfect holiday for relaxation. Simpson rep very friendly and helpful an all round excellant holiday Thank you. Mrs Edwards - July 2015
  • Just back from an excellent, relaxing week at Arosmari Village Hotel which is truly amazing - beautiful location, fantastic accommodation and wonderful attentive staff. Thanks to all the Simpson Travel team who were exceptional but Susan and Mike, the concierges at Arosmari deserve a mention for the care they took to ensure our stay was special and memorable. Mr Axon - July 2015
  • Charles and Margaret really enjoyed the week. Shame it wasnt 2. Best accommodation yet in Greece. Mr Dunstone - June 2015
  • Excellent accommodation in a tranquil setting . Ideal for getting away from it all and seeing the "real " Greece. Village setting is perfect and we found the locals very friendly and welcoming. Not being a main tourist area meant you got real value for money when eating out Beaches within an easy 15 minute drive and lovely walks around Vamos itself . Staff at hotel friendly and helpful with little touches making it that bit more special. Mrs Warrender - June 2015
  • We find Simpsons Holidays relaxing from day one - no overload of information or sales talk. Plenty of information is available if you ask and the Simpsons Reps are courteous and knowledgeable. Mr Pollard - June 2015
  • An absolutely faultless holiday in the peaceful sanctuary of Arosmari, surrounded by the understated beauty in what Nikos has created there with all its wonderful attention to detail. The staff were, without exception, an absolute delight and Susan the perfect representative in her constant and cheerful background presence to ensure that every guest was happy and had everything they needed to fully enjoy their stay. Ruby's breakfasts were always such a lovely way to start each day with the variety of choice she provided, although we felt that Kostas despaired at ever being able to teach us much Greek! The surrounding village was so peaceful and unspoilt, with characterful and friendly locals, while their hospitality in the tavernas made me glad we only had to walk home each evening! As usual in our experience of a Simpson Travel holiday, its execution from making the initial booking to their team saying farewell at Chania as we left the island was perfect, with the feeling always there that, had there been a problem, it would have been sorted with a quiet efficiency without us having to worry. Finally, like many others I suspect, we often leave a destination thinking it might be nice to come back, then move on to other things - however, we feel already that the gentle charm and tranquility of Arosmari, Vamos and its beautiful surrounding countryside is starting to pull us back! Mr Shaw - May 2015
  • Discovering Simpsons Travel has been just great. We had a wonderful holiday - understated luxury, quietly, efficiently and effectively managed by them for us. We will certainly use Simpsons again in the future. Ms Turner - May 2015
  • We had a great week of sun and food! Thanks to all the staff! You can buy good cakes and coffee in the centre of the village. Mrs Bell - May 2015
  • Hotel Arosmari is exceptional in its location in the foothills of the White Mountains. On the edge of the village all facilities are within walking distance and there is a brilliant taverna around the corner where you will find it difficult to spend more than 40 euros on dinner for two with plenty of wine. The cottages are perfectly renovated and highly original, ideal for two with the smallest details taken care of. The concierge, Susan, is excellent with great local knowledge and can advise on tavernas to visit and places to visit. We can thoroughly recommend both Simpson travel and Hotel Arosmari and will be rebooking for next May. Mr Elliott - May 2015
  • Arosmari is a special place, we had a wonderfully relaxing and restorative week - just what the doctor ordered! Mike and Sue were so helpful and yet discreet, allowing us the time and space to relax and enjoy the moment. The concept at Arosmari is truly unique and Nikos' love of his special place shines through all over the hotel. We enjoyed the breakfasts Ruby made, Kostas kept us entertained with his cheerful welcome each morning. Everything was so easy and relaxed. Thank you Simpson for providing the simple way to book a wonderful holiday! Mrs Finn - May 2015
  • Our holiday at Arosmari (Oregano cottage) was superb. The setting with views of the White Mountains is spectacular and the proximity to the village of Vamos, with a multitude of Tavernas & cafes just minutes walk away is so practical. The whole concept of Arosmari is excellent.. A cluster of charming little cottages around a pool/bar/restaurant complex. The atmosphere was always, relaxed, friendly and totally unpretentious.Nothing was too much trouble for Sue, Mike and the rest of the staff. It will be difficult to resist booking again!! Mr Tonkin - May 2015
  • This was our first visit to Crete and Greece and the first time we have travelled with Simpson Travel; this turned out to be the perfect combination, exceeding all expectations. All the arrangements, before and during the holiday were trouble-free. The staff at Vamos were very knowledgeable and plied us with books, leaflets, anecdotes and information to help us make the most of our stay. We have no hesitation in recommending Simpson Travel and the Vamos holiday village. Mr Lewis - September 2014
  • I wanted to let you know what a wonderful holiday we had at the Arosmari. The day we arrived at the hotel all stressed from our every day lives, we were met by the friendly team. Trish immediately went to get us a drink which was much appreciated, then told us to chill for we had 2 weeks in which to explore the island. We both enjoy sightseeing and walking so it didn't take Trish long to realise what we enjoy. She was a terrific representative, daily she would supply us with her knowledge along with any maps, books and even cool bags! We had intended to do some travelling around but with her expertise we saw and did much more than we would have! So back to the hum drum and we look forward to our next holiday with you. Mrs Chown - September 2014
  • Arosmari - the most relaxing atmosphere with all the comforts of home. Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff and tavernas are only a short stroll away. Understated luxury! Mrs Walley - July 2014
  • Fantastic holiday in Vamos. Not everyone's ideal as not on beach or tourist trail but we loved it! Like minded people who would like to enjoy a true Greek experience in a lovely little village will love it too!!! Mr Bingham - July 2014
  • It was 17 years since we were last in Crete so it was a delight to return after so long. We stayed at Arosmari Village and found our expectations were exceeded. This was down to a great location, situated in a vibrant village who are keen to develop tourism (would recommend the bread making/olive oil day), plenty of good tavernas, easy access to the bigger towns, coast and historical sites in Wstern Crete. This was our first time with Simpsons but we were impressed at the level of personal support and advice (but delivered in an unobtrusive way). For those wanting a relaxing holiday with sunshine and the option of exploring the region, this is a great holiday destination. Mrs Casswell - June 2014
  • Always a pleasure to travel with Simpson. Stress free, efficient - staff that bend over backwards to help. Would highly recommend! Ms Knee - June 2014
  • Arosmari village hotel is perfectly located for a holiday which soaks up the local Greek village life. We felt part of the village and were made very welcome. There is so much to see and do in the area. The local tavernas serve delicious and plentiful food. Simpson have excelled again. Trish the representative was always around without being intrusive, and very helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff looked after us very well. We don't normally return to places visited, but it is very likely that we will return to this wonderful hotel and location. Mr Meddings - June 2014
  • We went to Vamos in Crete. It is beautiful. We had car hire so we could take trips out through the beautiful and stunning countryside. The village is perfect with many excellent tavernas. Go try it and see for yourselves. Mrs Orr - June 2014
  • We loved our cottage. Everything about it and the village where we stayed were beautiful and very comfortable. We really appreciated the dedication of the staff at Simpson. They were helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely use Simpson again , and return to the same place. Mrs Anderson - June 2014
  • We stayed at the Arosmari Village resort for two weeks early June. Wow what a wonderful holiday this proved to be from day one, from when we warmly greeted at our location. Our first impressions were of an idyllic and tranquil location and so it proved. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and always available for advice if required. The breakfast prepared by Ruby and served by Kostos were superb as were the Friday concerts in the grounds which was a great way of the guests getting to know one another and certainly generated some fun evenings afterwards in the local Taverna's and later in the garden room !! All the little touches made it special bath robes, slippers, olive and balsamic oils, biscuits and wine in arrival pack. We will hopefully return again soon and we rarely do the same place twice !! Thanks Malc and Sandy Romsey Mr Pollard - June 2014
  • Trisha and the team made every effort to make our stay at Arosmari memorable, nothing was too much trouble. It helped to create a real family atmosphere in beautiful surroundings. Mr Hargreaves - May 2014
  • Arosmari was just the place we needed to relax and unwind. We loved the proximity to Vamos village and the sounds of music, laughter and 'debate' - and flocks of sheep trotting down the road. Trisha gave us excellent ideas for walks around the village and drives further afield. A beautiful piece of paradise! Mrs Barker - May 2014
  • We had a brilliant time from the minute we arrived. The Easter Saturday midnight service at the village Church followed by a glass or two of the local wine, a cheese pie and the traditional hard boiled egg was fantastic start to our week's holiday,. Trisha is very welcoming and knowledgeable and Nikos is a very generous host - the Vamos Ensemble concert was terrific! It was a real pleasure to discover all that Vamos has to offer: a thriving village centre, interesting local walks, excellent family-run tavernas and lots more of interest to discover further afield in your car. We relaxed, we talked we read, we smiled - we loved it! Thank you very much. Mr and Mrs Duffy - April 2014
  • “What a superb holiday here at Arosmari! Everyone has been so kind and helpful, Nikos family and the Simpson Team. The Easter celebrations were amazing, the walking amidst the Spring wildflowers has been glorious, the cultural visits to Minoan / Roman sites and museums really interesting. There is just so much to see and do using Vamos as a base. We will have to return as there is still so much more to Western Crete. Leaving with so many fond memories.” Mr Naylor - April 2014
  • Our holiday at Arosmari Village Hotel was really great. We loved the set up there with access to the village and all of its amenities. Nikos, our host, gave us some memorable experiences! Joining the Easter celebrations in the village and at the hotel on Easter Sunday was great fun as well as the concert we attended with the Vamos Ensemble. The hospitality extended by Nicos on both occasions was fantastic. Trish our Simpson representative was excellent. She gave us great advice and was very thoughtful and helpful. We loved Western Crete, which in April was very beautiful with snow on the mountains, lush greenery and lots of spring flowers. There is lots to see and do and the people are very friendly. We will return! Mr Roberts - April 2014
  • “Sitting here with the smell of orange blossom it’s difficult to believe we have to leave our little Cretan cottage which has become like home. We have had such a lovely holiday here in Vamos. Ruby and Costas have really looked after us and Nicos has treated us like family, and then there’s Trish, what would we do without her? So thoughtful, sunny, knowledgeable and fun, thanks again. Really don’t want to leave Arosmari, we’ll be back." Mr Roberts - April 2014
  • If you want to be pampered, stay in beautiful surroundings in a working Cretan village with some of the most hospitable people then go here.. Vamos is a gem and Arosmari itself very much part of it. Every part of the holiday very close to perfect. Very highly recommended. Camomile Cottage - Mr Spragg - October 2013
  • We had two glorious weeks at Arosmari Village Hotel, very comfortable and relaxing. Lovely bed and linen. We liked Vamos and found everyone to be very friendly. Rosemary Cottage - Mr Ladd - October 2013
  • Paradise still! Our second holiday at Arosmari was as good as the first! The facilities and the location are great, but most of all the team are so friendly and helpful. Nikos, the owner, really cares about the place, Trish and Mike are so helpful, and Ruby is an absolute gem! Arugula Cottage - Mr Harcourt - September 2013
  • We found the whole experience at the Arosmari village hotel was a delight. Great balance of privacy with our own cottage plus all the shared amenities of pool and gardens. Wonderful friendly hosts and staff, and excellent advice on trips to other parts of Crete. Lavender Cottage - Mr Boniface - September 2013
  • We could not have had a more relaxing time. Calm, relaxed, professonal. Ochi problema! Oregano Cottage - Mr De Zylva - September 2013
  • Overall an excellent holiday Arugula Cottage - Mr Fenner - September 2013

YOUR SECURITY AND PEACE OF MIND
Full protection is guaranteed when you book a package with us. Our holidays are protected by the Civil Aviation Authority under the Air Tour Organisers Licence (ATOL Licence 5858) and by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA Membership W5698).

ACCOMMODATION ONLY
For most of our self-catering accommodation we are able to offer accommodation only prices (excluding flights, car hire and transfers). Restrictions may apply at certain times of the year.

CHILD CONCESSIONS
Children aged 2-11 years are eligible for concessions of between 5%-25% of the holiday price. This is offered at most of our self-catering properties depending on departure dates. High season dates are excluded. Two full paying adults must be travelling in order for child discounts to apply. For further information please call our sales consultants.

INFANTS
There is a charge of £75 per infant (under 2 years) on all our holidays. Travel cots and highchairs are provided free of charge in our self-catering properties, however, some hotels may charge for these items and we will advise you of any extra costs at the time of booking. Many hotels offer reduced rates for children if they share the same room as their parents.

PLACING AN OPTION
In order to allow you to co-ordinate your holiday arrangements with friends and family, in many cases we are able to hold an option for up to 24 hours before confirming your booking.

PAYING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY
In order to confirm your booking a deposit of £225 per person is required unless you are booking accommodation only in which case 30% of the total holiday cost is required. However, if we need to buy in flight seats especially for your booking, we will ask you to pay a higher deposit to include the cost of the flights. This payment is non-refundable. The balance payment for your holiday should be paid at least 10 weeks prior to your departure. We accept most debit cards and credit cards, and personal cheques. All payments made by credit card will be subject to a 1.25% charge* reflecting our incurred costs. (*American Express is subject to a 2% charge.) Multi-centre holidays incur a £15-100 per person administration fee.

Please familiarise yourself with our full booking terms including our cancellation policy here.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
It is compulsory that all our guests have comprehensive travel insurance and we will need full details of your policy at the time of booking or before you travel.

FINAL DOCUMENTATION
Your travel documents are available to download and print 2 weeks prior to departure provided you have paid in full, completed and submitted Advanced Passenger Information and car hire details (if applicable). Please note if you are travelling with Ryan Air you will only be able to download your boarding passes approximately 7 days before departure due to the airline's check-in requirements. Should you prefer to receive your documents by post, please ask us at the time of booking.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS
It is your responsibility to be in possession of a valid passport and any necessary visas. EU citizens do not need a visa to travel to Greece. If you are a non-EU citizen then you should check with your own embassy for the entry/re-entry requirements necessary for your journey. Children not on an accompanying parent’s passport before October 1998 are now required to hold their own passport if they are under 16 years. If you do not have a passport, it is recommended to apply at least 6 weeks before your holiday. Passports should be valid for 6 months after your return date.

FLIGHT INFORMATION
Our prices are based on our lowest contracted fare. Occasionally it may be necessary to purchase flights outside of our normal allocation and in these circumstances we may need to charge an additional supplement to reflect the extra costs incurred. This will also be the case if we are booking flights from regional airports or on flights where we do not have a seat allocation. If a supplement applies, this will be advised to you at the time of booking.

LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE
If you are flying on our British Airways charter service from London to Corfu you are permitted to carry one piece of checked luggage per person up to 23kg. One piece of hand baggage is permitted up to 10kg (maximum dimensions 56cm x 45cm x 25cm).

Infants are permitted a 10kg checked bag allowance plus a fully collapsible pushchair, a car seat and one piece of hand luggage for items required in the flight (subject to security restrictions).

Any excess baggage will be charged at the airport. As this is a BA charter service, BA miles cannot be accrued or earned on this flight, nor can BA Executive Club members access the airport lounge.

If you are flying with Easyjet you are permitted to carry one piece of checked luggage per person (excluding infants) up to 20kg. One piece of hand baggage is permitted measuring a maximum 56 x 45 x 25cm (including wheels, pockets and handles) which you must be able to place and retrieve safely in the overhead lockers without assistance.

If you are flying with any other airline, please check the airline’s website for details.

It is common for airlines to change their restrictions on luggage weight and the number of items so, before travelling, we recommend you check the airline’s website for the latest information.

IN-FLIGHT MEALS AND SPECIAL DIETS
British Airways offer an in-flight snack on our service from London to Corfu. Special meal requests may be made up to 14 days prior to departure. Whilst we will always pass your request onto the airline, we are unable to guarantee supply. Charges may apply and we will confirm these to you at the time of booking. Easyjet offers a pay on board snack service.

GROUP SEATING AND EXTRA LEGROOM
Some airlines offer passengers the opportunity of pre-booking guaranteed seats together at a pre-paid supplement (seats may be situated either side of an aisle) and some offer seating with extra legroom for a reasonable supplement. Availability and supplements can be advised at the time of booking.

PREGNANCY
You will usually need a certificate of fitness to fly if you are more than 28 weeks pregnant. Most airlines will not allow you to fly if you are more than 32 weeks pregnant. Please refer to the airline’s website for details of their policy.

API (ADVANCE PASSENGER INFORMATION)
Most countries require that the airline take additional information from each passenger such as full name, date and place of birth, passport number, country of issue and expiry date. You will need to provide this information at the time of booking or, at the very latest, prior to release of your travel documents. You are able to complete the details online via Manage My Booking or call a member of our Pre-Departure team.

NAME CHANGES
The name shown on the itinerary must exactly match the name of the passenger travelling as it appears in his/her passport (first full name and surname). If not, you may be refused boarding. Once your flights have been booked, it is not usually possible to make name changes without incurring substantial charges. If there are any errors on your invoice or itinerary, please inform us immediately.

FOREIGN OFFICE ADVICE BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office provides up-to-date travel information to help British travellers make informed decisions about travelling abroad. Should you wish to check their advice or information about the destination you are travelling to, please visit their website: www.fco.gov.uk/en or call 020 7008 1500.

FLIGHT DELAYS
In the event of a flight delay, whenever possible we will ensure that the airline/operator communicates the reasons for and extent of any delay and implements appropriate standards of welfare provision. EU carriers should also comply with EU Regulation 261/2004 in the event of delays, cancellations or denied boarding and guidance is provided on the CAA’s website www.caa.co.uk

CAR HIRE INFORMATION
Most of our holidays include an air-conditioned hire car, to be collected from and returned to the airport (or port where applicable). The category of car included in the basic holiday price will vary according to the number of people in your party. We do not consider infants as part of the total party size. The cars we have included offer comfortable seating for the size of party travelling, however, we do ask you to take into account the size of the boot space for your luggage if any infants are in your party, and the number of child and baby seats required. You may wish to upgrade your car to give you extra comfort and space. Availability and supplements for upgrading will be advised at the time of booking. For transporting extra luggage it is also possible to pre-book a taxi at additional cost.

The types of cars listed are only examples of car models in each category. We cannot guarantee that you will receive a specific make or model.  All cars in Greece are 5 door.

INCLUDED IN YOUR CAR HIRE

  • Unlimited mileage
  • Local taxes and compulsory insurance
  • Two main drivers. Please note that there is a minimum age for drivers (minimum ages vary from 21 to 25 and can be advised at the time of booking) although there is no maximum age limit. Drivers must hold a British/EU Driver’s Licence or International Driver’s Licence, held for at least 2 years. You will not be able to hire a car without your original, valid Driver’s Licence which you must carry at all times when you are driving. Please also take the counterpart of your licence if you hold a photo licence.

CAR INSURANCE
Please note that in most cases you will need to pay an ‘excess’ in the event of theft or damage to your hire car, regardless of blame. As amounts and conditions vary throughout Greece, please ensure you ask for full details at collection, before you sign your car hire contract. The excess charge ranges from €300 to €1,000 dependent on your destination. Where an ‘excess’ applies, it may be possible to purchase extra insurance locally, which reduces or cancels the ‘excess.’

The insurance with or without the excess will not cover:

  • Tyres, including puncture repairs
  • Loss of or damage to car keys (and costs incurred due to this, for example towing and replacement keys, etc.)
  • Windscreen, wing mirrors or undercarriage (you should not drive off-road)
  • Interior of car is also not covered in Corfu and Paxos
  • Personal Accident Insurance (this should be covered by your personal travel insurance)
  • Any damage, loss, accident, theft, attempted theft, etc. caused by your own negligence, for example, driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful driving, driving off-road, using wrong type of fuel, unlocked doors, apparent personal effects, etc.

CAR HIRE DEPOSIT
The car hire agents will require you to lodge a credit card deposit when you collect your car. No money will be taken if you return the undamaged car at the correct time with the correct amount of fuel and not requiring cleaning.

CHILD SEATS
Child and baby seats (forward facing seats only are available) can be provided if booked at least 2 weeks prior to your departure and are charged at £2 per day. Please remember to specify the age of the child. Local car hire and Simpson Travel staff are not authorised to install the child seats and as style and installation may differ to those in the UK, you may prefer to bring your own child seat for your own peace of mind.

TRANSFER INFORMATION
Please refer to the information at the top of the page for details of the transfers included in the cost of your holiday. Taxis are licensed and insured to carry up to 4 passengers. Therefore, if there are 4 passengers and an infant then 2 taxis are needed and we will provide you with a separate quotation. If you are travelling with young children or babies, child seats are not provided for any vehicles used for transfers. For your own peace of mind, we recommend that you bring your own although there is no guarantee that local taxi companies will allow the use of child seats. Please note that the transfer times included in our accommodation details are approximate estimates only and do not include any waiting time.

Although we pre-arrange and book your ferry crossings in advance, poor weather or ferry cancellations may disrupt the schedules. In most cases, when you arrive at the port you will have to wait a certain amount of time for your onward boat transfer. If your flight experiences delays and you miss your pre-booked boat transfer, we will then book you onto the next available boat. If you miss the last ferry due to a flight delay or cancellation due to poor weather, it may be necessary for you to overnight at the port and then take the ferry the following morning.

ACCOMMODATION AND USEFUL INFORMATION

Air-conditioning and heating
We have indicated in the property descriptions which accommodation has air-conditioning included in the holiday price. Heating is available in some of our properties during the low season weeks, which is normally included in the holiday price.

Animals and wildlife
As in all rural communities, indigenous animals are an essential part of the way of life. The braying of a donkey, crow of a cockerel or the barking of a dog is not a complaint that receives much sympathy from the locals! Care should be taken to minimise the presence of insects and animals in your accommodation. Keep surfaces clean, dispose of refuse regularly and ensure that food is not left uncovered. Cats and dogs are often resident where an owner or manager lives on the property. If you are allergic to cats and/or dogs please ensure that you check the suitability of your chosen accommodation with us prior to confirming your booking.

Barbecues
We have specified if a barbecue is available at your accommodation. Please note that often in summer, due to the hot weather, use of your barbecue may not be allowed and/or strict rules for its use may apply. The local or national government reserves the right to introduce new rulings at any time, often with little prior notice, prohibiting the use of barbecues to reduce the risk of fires. Where a barbecue is not provided, it is usually because the surroundings are considered a fire risk or inappropriate for the use of barbecues.

Beach/pool towels
We provide Simpson Travel beach/pool towels in all our self-catering properties and Simpson Hotels, and these are normally laundered weekly.

Beds
Please note that a double bed could be two single beds placed together. Double beds usually measure 140cm x 190cm and single beds 80/90cm x 190cm. If you are booking a hotel room, please let us know your room preference (double or twin). Although we will make every effort to convey your request to the hotel, we cannot guarantee your preference will be available.

Check-in and check-out
You will usually be able to occupy your villa, apartment or hotel after 4pm and you must vacate it on the day of departure by 10am and 9:30am in western Crete.

Cleaning
Self-catering accommodation is cleaned a minimum of twice a week (including arrival day) and some accommodation may be cleaned more often. Cleaning usually consists of a sweep, mop, bathroom and kitchen tidy up.  (N.B. Simpson Secret, Anti Paxos is cleaned once a week on changeover day.)

Distances and timings
Please note that all walking and driving times stated are approximate estimates only. Transfer times are also approximate estimates only and do not include any waiting time.

Half-board
Hotel bookings with half-board include dinner, which is usually a fixed menu with or without a choice of dishes. In some hotels, you may take your half-board meal at lunchtime.

Health and safety
Simpson Travel is committed to raising the standards of health and safety throughout all our destinations. Our guests’ safety and wellbeing is of the highest importance to us. However, please note that since many of our properties are private homes, it is not always possible to meet the same exacting standards as in the UK. In your accommodation we will provide any necessary health and safety information. We ask you to familiarise yourself with this information and the property on arrival, particularly when travelling with children, and to raise any concerns with your local representative.

In some properties a baby monitor has been provided and to the best of our knowledge it is operating correctly but it is vital that you check regularly that the device is operating to your satisfaction. We strongly advise against relying on the baby monitor in case of malfunction. Simpson Travel cannot be held liable for any malfunction of the baby monitor and the use of the device is entirely at your own risk.

Internet access and connection
If a property offers wifi or internet access, the type of connection may vary. Additionally, the signal could be intermittent at times and may not be available in all areas of the property. There may be a charge for internet use in some properties.

Linen and laundry
Bed and bathroom linen is provided and usually laundered twice weekly. For your convenience some of our properties have a washing machine.

Noise and building works
Traffic, farm work, roadwork, animals and other sounds form part of everyday life, however, what constitutes ‘noise’ to one person may not be a problem for another. Please let us know if you have any special needs regarding this. Occasionally, building work is unavoidable as we do not control such work and may not know about it in advance. Whenever possible, we will notify you of any work that we believe may affect your holiday.

Occupancy
Only guests named on your invoice are entitled to occupy the accommodation.

Plumbing
Throughout Greece, especially in the older houses, the plumbing system is not designed to have items flushed down the lavatory. Where necessary, bins are provided in all bathrooms.

Satellite television
We cannot guarantee that a full selection of satellite channels will be available. Channels in English may be very limited and these are often only CNN or BBC World.

Seasonal facilities
Some facilities are subject to weather conditions and the general season, for example swimming pools, restaurant terraces, pool bars, local restaurants, and they may be limited or unavailable at the beginning or end of the season. Please do not hesitate to check with us, should a particular facility be a necessity to you.

Security and cleaning deposits
For self-catering properties, we require you to lodge a security deposit against any breakages, damage, losses, extra cleaning or outstanding accounts, which you may have incurred during your stay and/or due to your negligence. This should be provided by credit or debit card at the time of booking by providing authorisation for us to deduct (within 14 days of your return home) any advised charges from your card. Most of our properties are the owners’ personal homes and repairs, replacements and extra cleaning can be very expensive, so we do ask you to take care in order to avoid incurring extra costs.

Swimming pools
Swimming pool details are given on our website. Pool dimensions are approximate only and, unless specified otherwise, pools are freshwater and unheated. In Paxos most pools are filled using ‘sweet water’, which is generally a mix of well water (with some salt content) and fresh water. Dates when pools are operational are subject to the prevailing weather conditions at the time of opening and closing and we cannot be held responsible if poor weather means the pool is opened later, or is closed earlier in the season.

Upon arrival at your accommodation, we kindly ask you to acquaint yourselves with the pool’s safety and hygiene rules. Very few pools have covers, fencing or life rings, so children must be supervised at all times. Some pools are ‘infinity pools’ which have an exposed pool edge with an unprotected drop. This maximises views and is an attractive feature of the pool. We recommend that children are supervised and that you do not sit, lean or walk on the unprotected edge.

Villa owners
Whilst the owners or staff of some properties may live on site and tend to the grounds, they are aware that you value your privacy, and will do their best not to intrude. We do ask you, however, to allow them reasonable access to the property so that they can maintain the grounds and keep them in good order.

Welcome Pack
We offer a welcome pack in all our self-catering accommodation consisting of a small selection of staple items and local produce. This usually includes the following complimentary items: coffee, tea bags, milk, bottled water, fruit juice, bread, butter/margarine, crisps, white wine, local beers, tonic, pasta, pasta sauce, yoghurt, honey, regional biscuits, washing powder, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing-up sponge, salt and pepper, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, mixed herbs and toilet paper.

Our choice of Greek properties is as diverse as the islands themelves, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide.

We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

Grading Criteria:
