Corsican Cultural Festivals, Fairs & Sporting Events

Calvi Jazz Festival, Calvi
Usually starting around mid June, this is a renowned Corsican Jazz festival attracting a variety of International artists, who mainly perform on stages in and around the lovely ancient citadel. During that week, you will also find live music around the harbour and in the cafés.

Les Nuits de la Guitare de Patrimonio, Patrimonio, near Saint Florent
Usually around the 3rd week in July, this was traditionally a guitar music festival but artists have been as varied as George Benson, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton. Concerts are held in the open air just near U Nativu (the 8th-9th century BC statue menhir) right in the heart of the village, not far from the handsome 16th-19th century, Saint-Martin church. The setting is enchanting and locals are very proud of this festival, which draws crowds from all around the island and beyond.

Foire de l’Olivier, Montemaggiore, the Balagne
Over 10,000 visitors flock to this pretty Balagne village for this fair usually held around mid July. The theme is the olive and in particular, the varied, natural Corsican products derived from this marvellous fruit.

Foire de l’Amandier, Aregno, the Balagne
Aregno, in the Balagne hills is well known for its almond plantations, which are receiving increasing attention of late. In the first weekend of August, the lovely natural setting of Aregno village plays host to a fair based on the theme of the almond with concerts, art work, children’s activities and of course… almond based delicacies.

Festivoce, Pigna, the Balagne
The heart of this festival takes place in the picturesque village of Pigna around the first week in July with FESTIVOCE, a summer celebration of different world music, voices and dance, both traditional and modern, Corsican and international.

Festival Européen du cinéma du monde rural, Lama
This is a famous film festival held around the last week in July/first week in August. Quality films from around the world are screened in the open air against the stunning mountainous backdrop of this charming village. There are also conferences, exhibitions and presentations by actors and film-makers.

Porto Latino, Saint Florent
Usually held around the first or second week in August, this music festival unites locals and musicians alike and music of South American and Spanish influence – the evenings in Saint Florent are lit up with these passionate tunes from artists who come from all around the world.

Rencontres polyphonique de Calvi, Calvi
Polyphonic singing is engrained in Corsica’s popular culture and this important festival around mid September celebrates its heritage and aims to open it up to others. Polyphonic artists from around the world (Mongolia, Sardinia, Cuba, Tibet) perform in and around the citadel, including its beautiful cathedral.

U Catenacciu, Sartène
This is the most famous Corsican Good Friday Easter procession. Every year Sartène, ‘the most Corsican of Corsican towns’, hosts this mysterious and visually stunning re-enactment of the Crucifixion.

Grand Raid Inter-Lacs, Corte
This sporting event takes runners to the very heart of Corsica on a course of 7 of its most beautiful mountain lakes. Usually starts around early to mid July.

Tour de Corse Automobile – Rallye de France
Every year in October, Corsica’s stunning, winding roads play host to the French stage of the World Rally Championships. The most prestigious motoring names and specialists are present for an ever increasing, international audience.

Défi Inter-Iles, Bonifacio
Around mid to last week in September, some 100 windsurfers from all around the world take part in a race with a spectacular course, taking them from Bonifacio to Sardinia and back.
