Corsica Car Hire Information

Most of our holidays include an air-conditioned hire car which will be arranged for collection at and return to the airport. Touring by car is the ideal way to discover the island. Our car hire agents in Corsica are Hertz and the category of car included in the basic holiday price will vary according to the number of people in your party (see below). Please note that we do not consider infants as part of the total party size. The cars we have included offer comfortable seating for the size of party travelling. We do however ask you to take into account the size of the boot space for your luggage and if any infants will be in your party. You may wish to upgrade your car to give you extra comfort and space for your luggage. Availability and supplements for upgrading will be advised at the time of booking.

*Please note that the types of cars listed are only examples of car models in each category. We cannot guarantee that you will receive a specific model, as Hertz purchase their fleet of cars after we publish our brochure. If the category included in the holiday price is not available, Hertz reserve the right to upgrade you at no extra charge. Categories E to U are subject to availability and we will need to request them in advance. Estate cars are limited and cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that drivers must be 21 years of age (no maximum age limit applies) and hold a British/EU Driver’s Licence or International Driver’s Licence, held for at least a year. You will not be able to hire a car without your original, valid Driver’s Licence.

*Simpson Travel special Super Collision Damage Waiver
We have negotiated for our guests a special insurance, which cancels or reduces the excess you would normally be required to pay, should your car be damaged or stolen. Our special extra insurance is included in your hire car contract and reduces the excess to NIL for categories B, C, D, E, F, H and to v100 for categories I, G and U.

Important information:
Please note – the insurance with or without the excess will NOT cover:   

  • the tyres
  • the loss of or damage to car keys (and costs incurred due to this, for example towing and replacement keys, etc.)
  • the windscreen or undercarriage (you should not drive off-road)
  • Personal Accident Insurance (this should be covered in your Personal Travel Insurance or can be taken out as an option through Hertz)
  • Any damage, loss, accident, theft, attempted theft, etc, caused by your own negligence. For example, driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful driving, driving off-road, using wrong type of fuel, unlocked doors, apparent personal effects, car left unlocked… etc.

Credit Card deposit
Hertz will require you to lodge a credit card deposit when you collect your car. This will be debited should you:

  • return your car without a full tank of petrol
  • return your car requiring extra cleaning
  • return your car after the intended day and time as booked through us (max 4 hour delay allowed)
  • be required to make any payment (excess or other) as outlined above

Child seats
Child and baby seats can be provided if booked at least 2 weeks prior to your departure. They are charged at £14 each regardless of length of time (or v42 payable in Corsica, if you book once there). Please remember to specify the age of the child.
Please note that Hertz staff do not install the child seats and as style and installation may differ to those in the UK, you may prefer to bring your own child seat for your own peace of mind.

Transfers for bookings without car hire
Bookings at Hotel la Villa, Hotel Balanéa, U Fornu, Le Maria Venezia and Hotel Santa Maria do not include car hire. Return taxi transfers from Calvi airport to your accommodation will be provided. Please be advised that for the apartments U Fornu and Le Maria Venezia, the nature of their location means that the taxi driver cannot leave you at the front door.

We do recommend hiring a car for at least part of your stay and you may do so for a minimum of 3 days at the prices specified, which only apply if you book through us before you travel. Higher rates apply if booked through Hertz once in Corsica.

  • U Fornu & Hotel Balanéa guests will be able to pick up their hire car from the Hertz office in Calvi centre.
  • Cars for Hotel la Villa guests can be delivered to the hotel.
  • Le Maria Venezia and Hotel Santa Maria guests will be able to collect their car at the Hertz office in Ile Rousse centre.

Please note that collection on a Sunday must take place at Calvi airport only, as delivery on that day is not possible, and other Hertz offices are closed.

Two centre holidays in Corsica
In the instance where one of the properties includes a higher grade of car, then it will be necessary for you to exchange cars on the second Sunday morning at the nearest Hertz airport office. Alternatively, you may prefer to pay for an upgraded car for the extra week, to avoid such a changeover.

Driving in Corsica

The law insists that you always carry your driving licence and car hire documents with you when driving in Corsica. Random checks and breath testing are quite common.

Although much work has been done to Corsican roads over the past few years most of them, particularly country and mountain roads, remain narrow and winding and some are in poor state of repair. Guests staying in rural or mountain accommodation in particular should take this into consideration.

Smaller vehicles are easier to navigate through the narrow roads and tracks that lead to many of our properties and some of these tracks may sometimes have bumps and pot-holes, especially after periods of rain. We do ask that you take particular care when driving on these roads, bearing in mind the conditions of your hire car contract.

Roads in main tourist centres do become much busier during July and August and parking in most main towns is usually payable – rates will be shown at each car park.

Corsica Transfers

Bookings at Hotel la Villa, Hotel Balanéa, U Fornu, Le Maria Venezia and Hotel Santa Maria do not include car hire. Private return taxi transfers from Calvi airport to your Corsica accommodation are included in the holiday price.

On arrival in Corsica (on Sunday charter flights only), you will be met by one of our local representatives who will show you to your taxi. If arriving on any other day or flight, the taxi driver will meet you in the arrivals hall in the airport. He will be holding a board with your name on it.

Please be advised that for the apartments U Fornu and Le Maria Venezia, the nature of their location means that the taxi driver cannot leave you at the front door.
